Man this engine is rock solid built for last, i had this one fitted on a sprinter, with 450 th km, had to change new pistons, two of them had a crack on the lip of the bowl on the crown, the engine was running fine but i lifted the head cause i wanted to do inspection and replacing one broken glow plug inside the head. Also changed conrod bearings they were worn and main crankshaft bearings, the later had normal wearing

replaced my turbo it has solved my issue of loud turbo cat fight ,top end has returned to normal ,,it really pays to replace these items well before i have as we dont notice it creeping up on us over time,, items replaced are fuel lines to the after market tank lift pump and lines to pump turbo ,alternator exhaust inlet gasket, . The next thing is the oil light is on at idle but when under rpm light goes out .. Happy 4 whelling

also the turbo is making a loud cat fight noise balching as if it is staving for air, i thing it could be the intake hose collapsing inward
@rovertasmania70335 жыл бұрын
Yes the 90 degree elbow hose are known to delaminate. Easy enough to check by pulling it out.

Nice one 👍 Do you lock CDL or leave it open?
@rovertasmania70338 жыл бұрын
I left it open (high range) from memory.

Fantastic video. Noticed you didn't use a torque wrench even once! how did you judge tightness?
@rovertasmania70339 жыл бұрын
+Finbarr Dolan Thanks for your comment. Low value torque settings are easily set by hand, its just experience over the years of DIY maintenance. I use torque wrenches on more critical and higher settings.

it really goes a loot better after the valves adjusted

A mate who is a lr mechanic told me that diesels suffer from poorly gapped valves so yes its a quick improvement.

Hi there , ive had my 300 defender for 20 years now 350,000 km still on the same gear box engine, head as well ,its just said to replace the lash caps ive never heard of these before,does anyone know much about these ,,thanks Darren
@rovertasmania70335 жыл бұрын
That is impressive mileage. Biggest thing to look out for 300tdis is engine temps (coolant and EGT's). Valve caps are used to take the hit when the valve face contacts the valve head. I believe its meant to distribute the impact on a flat surface, else it will start to crate a crater on the valve face (like I had on my Series diesel engine that uses no caps). These are easy to replace too, as part of a valve gap service so given you havent touched them I would def be putting new ones in. Cheers,

Tired to jack up the front wheel as you said and put in the 5th gear, but the Valve didn't move even i have turn it as many round as i could. What might be the problem? thanks
@rovertasmania70338 жыл бұрын
If its in gear and the centre diff lock is in High then it should spin the motor and hence the valves. Can you feel resistance on the wheel when you try and move it?
@lodevc3 жыл бұрын
Same here, car jacked up. In 5th gear, difflock in H but valves aren’t moving..

what tourqe spec would you use on the bolt? want to do it by the book as i'm not the most skilled mechanic😀
@rovertasmania70337 жыл бұрын
I follow the manual, its the only way to be sure. Just go at it slowly, make sure when you tighten the nut by hand (ring spanner) on the adjuster that it doesnt move it. Keep the feeler gauge under it, making sure its not grabbing (too tight) or too lose. Should have just a little drag when you move the feeler gauge.
