Oh that's awesome. so glad that the landrover stuff is useful - Ill be getting back into the V8 County rebuild soon. Its been harvest time here and Ive been doing lots of garden stuff. winter is creeping in and Ill be doing less outside soon. Im going to make a lower dash from scratch soon. My original one is just dust under the vinyl.

Always interesting videos. Are you planing to make a video of the door tops once you have the material folded? I would be interested to see what the finished product would look like. I have a ‘77 series 3 88”. Cheers - Simon

Not much point putting zinc primer over the top of etch primer. The zinc needs to be in direct contact with the steel to do its job, but probably needs more of a mechanical key as it doesn't stick quite as strongly as etch primer.
@t.h.o.r.4 жыл бұрын
thanks for that- great advice. I think manufacturers just presume that you will be using it straight on steel. Ive wondered about its efficiency over the clear pva type coating that the milky rust converters leave.
@mbrown69304 жыл бұрын
@@t.h.o.r. Yes indeed. Zinc protects the steel by being a sacrificial anode. This requires it to be in conductive contact with the steel. The milky rust converters will - at least partially - insulate the zinc from the steel. In that instance the zinc would provide corrosion protection more by being a physical barrier, instead of being a sacrificial anode. I overcoat zinc primer with enamel paint as it slows down the oxidation of the zinc and thus gives a longer service life.

@@mbrown6930 Yes Ive been doing my trailer chassis welds for years with a zinc rich primer then a silver epoxy enamel with a high zinc content www.whiteknightpaints.com.au/products/metal/white-knight-rust-guard/topcoat/white-knight-rust-guard-epoxy-enamel/
