Oil in the charged air pipes is quite normal on these. The oil comes from the crankcase breather tube

Yea I had heard that too, I have actually kept the turbo but it was the manifold that was shot. Ross

@@RossPerryProductionswhat issue were you having that prompted you to look at the turbo? Currently have a p0299 underboost. Looking at a new turbo myself

@@HaggisMuncher-y2u Thats the same code I was getting and I was loosing power high in the rev range. It might not be your turbo but the manifold welds blowing it is a common issue, I managed to pick up a new complete set cheap but you can just buy a new manifold and go from there, I have kept my old turbo as there wasn't much wrong with it, and could be reconditioned. Let me know if you have any other questions. Ross

@@RossPerryProductionsoh that’s excellent. I’ve had a turbo rebuild but I’m not sure how much I trust the work done on it. All charge pipes replaced New intercooler Turbo rebuild New actuator. Not worked. About to shell out on an OEM garrett turbo with programmed actuator. Also considering chucking on a new exhaust manifold for good measure. How did you diagnose the cracked manifold?

Hi mate, John from Brisbane here. How much was the replacement turbo/manifold? Quite like the FL2 and regularly drive my daughter’s Si6. Any recommendations on the car between the Si4 and the TD4? Why did you choose the petrol version

Hi John, I paid about $1300 for the turbo with manifold and its an OEM part not repro. They are great cars, the previous owner had a caravan so had worked the engine fairly hard which may be the reason for the turbo failing. When we bought it I did test drive a Diesel too which was fine, but the power delivery did not seem as smooth, it wasn't as quick, and was fairly noisy. The Si4 is a 4 cylinder Ford Ecoboost engine that's used in lots of cars in the Ford range and Volvo (XC60) so its tried and tested. The Si4 has around 240bhp and the SD4 180bhp. it really depends what you are after if I was towing more or worried about fuel economy I would probably go for the SD4, whereas I wanted the better performance and smoother ride of the Si4, I hope that helps. I have made a few videos of the car feel free to check them out. Please also remember to give the thumbs up to the video. Ross

@@RossPerryProductions I have a 2014 SD4 HSE, and the turbo failed not long after I bought it. I strongly suspect that it was due to lack of servicing. Anyway, the car's been faultless ever since and I really love it.

Hi there, I think I paid $1400 delivered, it was by far the cheapest I could find an OEM one!

Hi there sorry I missed this comment. the connection from the turbo was pretty accessible so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge, mine was a 2014 model with 120k kms and the bolts were free and easy to work loose.

So basically its a new original turbo assembly with the welded flange. In other words, you'll be replacing the same assembly in the near future. I didn't realize Ford makes these...no wonder they are found on the road dead. LOL. Went to a LR dealership and they want to charge me $7000 to replace the manifold assembly; service manager said they do 4 replacement a week. Don't know if he was exaggerating but if that's true, there should be a recall. This is bad design and a safety/health/life issue.

Yes unfortunately Ford owned JLR during the time they built my car, the discovery sport, and Evoque started with the same engine then later changed to a LR engineered one which was much better. You can get the cast manifolds which could be better but I was apprehensive, the original one lasted 7 years and 100,000 kms so hopefully the new one will too.

@@RossPerryProductions My car is 8 years old and 130,356kms. I just took out the heat shield and can confirm the exhaust manifold has crack on the driver-side exhaust pipe. The heat shield also shows signs of black soot on that side but the rest seems OK. Fortunately, my car still runs fine; no engine code or no white smoke but I'm not taking any chances. I'll be buying an OEM and will bring it to a weld shop and have them complete the weld around the pipes as well as weld-in 1/4"x2" metal support bracket from the flange to the pipe at three areas around the pipe on all exhaust pipes. Hopefully, this will extend/add life to that OEM turbo.

Are you sure this isn't the DW12 2.2 PSA engine and not an ecoboost???
@RossPerryProductions
@RossPerryProductions 11 ай бұрын
100% sure it is the 2.0l ecoboost, its not very popular outside of Australia, and Canada in the Freelander 2 (si4) but it is widely used in the Evoque, early Discovery Sport etc.
