I am really looking forward to your documented resto. I just bought a 1979 series 3 long wheel base hardtop down under here in NSW Australia. So good luck, I'll be handing you a spanner or two (theoretically speaking) along the journey. Thanks for this first episode.

I think one of the most interesting aspects of series Land Rovers is they are modular. Unlike todays cars where everything is controlled by a computer, and nothing is designed to be serviced, an old Series is built with no frills and to be serviced simply. With even marginal maintenance, an old Landy will provide many years of service. With proper maintenance, and a reasonable parts supply they could potentially last indefinitely. If only a modern automobile company would produce a stout rugged modular vehicle without all the electronic crap, they could sell many millions. These old Series Landys are worth saving. Mine makes me smile every time I look at it. Cheers.

@@calsurflance5598 100% agree and do you know what would make them even better is a simple electric drivetrain. I don't know why people have to complicate things, keep it simple. I bet if land Rover brought back the old design tomorrow it would outsell the new defender. It's a classic shape that's timeless now. They did themselves an injustice with the new defender in my opinion.

@ Agreed! The Land Rover apple has fallen very far from the tree.
@MaxPower-nk9sn14 күн бұрын
@calsurflance5598 It's left the orchard at this stage. I can't understand what market the New defender is aimed at, they are competing against themselves with the discovery and the range Rover. There's no difference in my eyes between those 3 vehicles. The Defender was a agricultural vehicle now it's an urban run around.

These are great vehicles and easy to rebuild. I have had my Series 3 for decades and put a galvanized chassis years ago. We did it in my laneway over an Easter weekend. I kept the entire body together because I didn't want to loose the alignment of all the doors etc. and had six friends help lift off, switched everything over and stuck it back on. My recommendations are to change the springs(parabolics really improve the ride) and steering relay at the same time. Lately I have bought doors from SP with galvanized frames as rust is big problem here in Canada. The Richards Chassis are a top notch product and they have great customer service. Good luck with the restoration!

@@NORTHERNROVER1 Thanks for the advice, I heard parabolic springs make a big difference, I do plan on putting them on. I want to put an overdrive on it as well. I'm on the lookout for galvanized door frames and was also looking at picking up so aluminum door hinges but they are a ridiculous price. Rust is the biggest killer on a Land Rover mainly due to the electrolysis between the steel and aluminum. I plan to get a galvanized bulkhead also. I had a Defender and that started rusting away after a couple of years. You would have thought Land Rover would have improved the models over the years to eliminate some of the rusting.
@calsurflance559814 күн бұрын
Best of luck on the rebuild. The rust you folks across the pond have to deal with is heartbreaking. I bought a 1966 a about a year ago from a rancher in California, and even though it was mechanical tired, the original chassis and bulkhead are rust free. As long as you are not put off by a chassis swap another Landy is saved. Cheers!👌👍

@@calsurflance5598 The rust issues here in Ireland are not as bad as what the UK faces as they use an awful lot of salt on the roads in winter and this plays havoc on corrosion. Unfortunately rust is the Land Rovers biggest killer but as you said a new chassis and it can soldier on for another couple of years.

Yes when I watched the rest of your video I learned you already had a chassis, I look forward to your videos. North American Overland videos are good on KZbin and Crocker vs Land Rover and may help to fuel your enthusiasm, I wish you well and look forward to future content

@@melvindavison8532 Yeah I love Crockers videos he does a fantastic job with the edits of his videos and seems to have great restoration skills. North American Overlands Land Rover builds are on another level, they seem to have a very good team of Mechanics and the paintwork on them is unreal.

Hi, I've just subscribed to watch the Land Rover restoration. I find videos of about 1/2hr each with a bit of time lapse of the repetitive bits easiest to watch. I'm sure it will be an interesting project, as long as you like rust! Thanks.

I love rust it comes by the bucket load with a Land Rover. Thanks a million for subscribing it'll help the channel grow. Your right about the video length, I'm going to try edit them down, doing them in one cut is not good because I tend to drift off topic and start talking about something else 😅

@@blackhat400 I was actually wondering about that. I do love the look of the Galvanized Chassis but I think your right it'll probably be better for the long run. I am going to put in a cavity spray also. Thanks for the advice 👍

I’d nip up to Armagh and buy a chassis and Bulkhead from Sheilder , they will do you a good deal and do a video of the complete restoration. I’d just get it done . full nut and bolt restorations tend to run out of steam

@@melvindavison8532 Thanks Melvin, I purchased the Chassis from Richards already so I'm stuck with that one. I am going to go to Sheilder for the bulkhead. I kinda want to document the whole build as I think it'll be nice to look back on and maybe might show others what they may be getting themselves into. I want to learn to edit the videos better to keep it condensed and add in a few time lapse edits with a bit of funky music 😅
