An important note for 4BD1 stage 1 owners. This motor weighs abooooout 200kg more than the V8 that this vehicle was designed for. so keep this in mind when doing suspension upgrades. I personally have purchased an 11 leaf heavy duty springs from Heratige series parts and paired them with some 1 ton Military extended shackle too keep that front end off my 33" Km3 muddies.

Had this issue with my 4bd1 stage 1, the poor old springs only gave me an inch of clearance from the bump stops.

I fitted rear springs off a 109 after Geoff recommended them. They are great went carry heavy things like stone in the back and also towing a trailer.

Going on about jerry cans on the roof.. So many people put roof top tents on the roof these days, unlike jerry cans which the weight goes down as you use the fuel. A rooftop tent is a constant 60-70kg all time.

I had a similar set up on my 88” Series 3. In addition to the lwb springs on the rear I also fitted slightly longer military spring hangers. I also carried a lot of weight in the back plus a roof tent but the ride was just amazing! Thanks for the great video Geoff 👍

I'm running GB Springs 109" parabolic springs with the 3rd leaf taken out on the rears, and Aeon rubber helper springs (Part No. RTC8000) which replace the rear bump stops. I find it to be an excellent compromise, if a touch soft on the rear when fully laden, but that's when the helpers come into play! P.S. We must catch up again sometime, I've just purchased a Santana PS-10 for my next Africa trip in 2026!

Thank you, I will considered them for a future project, but for the current work we do they just don't last. Kind regards, Geoff

@@seriouslyseriesaustralia I’ve heard other people express the same sentiment about parabolic springs. If you don’t mind me asking, is this something you have personal experience with them failing? The last gentleman I spoke with said that they rejected them outright as being unworthy of consideration. He stated that his Series 11 rig was used primarily for hard core rock crawling but could still use the vehicle as a general purpose rig. I think he said he had created his own leaf spring package from a Chevy truck. My own personal experience with them was on a series 3 109” work truck and a series 3 lightweight. They performed very well. I have never been a hard core rock crawler guy, so I don’t have any experience to speak to that domain, but my 109” was used extensively to haul one ton plus loads off road to remote construction sites. For that task, they were superior to the original design.

Hi Andrew. This is where I get them from, sadly not in Australia, UK. www.polybush.co.uk/polyurethane-suspension-bushes-components-products/land-rover/series-12-3/ Kind regards Geoff

Hi Matt. I would recommend looking at putting either some extra leafs in the leaf pack, running 11 instead of 9. This has worked in the past for me. Cheers Geoff

Heyngeoff whats with the long wheel nuts.have you changed to longer wheel studs and closed wheel nuts?
@seriouslyseriesaustralia
@seriouslyseriesaustralia 7 күн бұрын
Hi Matt. I have had to change wheel nuts to a 16mm to suit the dynamic rims we run, I haven't had to change the wheel studs as the rims are the same thickness as the original land rover rims. Cheers Geoff
