I lost 3rd and 4th gears recently and feared the worst - a full gearbox rebuild. Thankfully I found out it was only the detent springs that had given up so time to replace. In this video I show you how to replace the three detent springs WITHOUT removing the gearbox or seatbox, it can be done!!!

I found a mangled synchro spring in my gearbox oil a few months ago. Dreading even attempting the job but your video has given me hope. What tools do you recommend? Also, honestly, how difficult a job was it?

I have to say I was dreading this job myself but was pleasantly surprised at how straightforward it was, honestly! Standard tools (screwdrivers, socket set, spanners) to remove the floor and gearbox tunnel. Same tools again to take the top of the gearbox off. Photograph everything and keep your fixings handy. Long handled pliers with a slight bend at the tips are essential to get the springs placed. Go for it, I’m glad I did!

Did you find the missing/broken spring bits in the bottom of the gearbox?

Yes, thankfully all the broken pieces were accounted for, doesn’t look like too much damage was done
