This race looks like so much fun. I live in Spain and we've got all the Gravel roads here one could wish for but unfortunately no organized events, hopefully that'll change. We've also got some red clay here in my usual area to the South of Madrid, that stuff is mortal. Thankfully it is mostly dry but when it's wet it sticks like glue to your bike, causing all sorts of mechanicals.

Gravel racing is much akin to a marathon race. Mental milestone distances. People there to win, and people there to reach a goal.

thanks for the shoutout BR. You left out my breakaway partner, 2nd place Michael van Den Ham, we took our picture on the chaise together! Can't thank Bobby enough for such a great event and of course my sponsors at Panaracer Stan's NoTubes p/b Bicycle X-Change.

Eli Anderson This place is hard on people. Maybe the Dutch can understand what we face: windy, flat, the land and weather trying to kill us all the time. Oklahomans are tough, but mother nature is tougher . . . sometimes!

Can (SOME) gravel races ever become the American equivalent to the Cobbled Classics?
@WildOutdoorLiving6 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about this! These races are young so it's hard to tell but it's definitely seems possible given their current reputation and individual feel. It took 100 years for those races to evolve to what they are now though and I do hope that none of them ever go full professional like the classics have.

sounds like fun, how do I get into races like this? I have a 2008 intense spider( just rebuilt), would that be a good bike for a race like this? I am over 50 and not looking to win, but would like to finish a 100 next year. Any shorter races 20 -50 mile this year( need time to get into better shape for the 100)?

Don't be so hard about roadie racer. Even when I'm taking beer hand ups in 'cross, I'm still racing. That killer or be killed racing feeling may have been (probably is for me) may be more enjoyable than balls to the wall racing speed suddenly stopped and potentially lost.
