The best podcast epidose that changed my way of thinking about job search. Thanks for bringing this

The advice here between Phyl Terry and Lenny Rachitsky is gold. And I bet Phyl's mom would be super proud. Another consideration point to support Phyl's thesis here from a competitive perspective: suppose you casted that wide net on your background and managed to make it to final round interviews. At that juncture, you may appear comparatively less attractive as you're competing against multiple people who did happen to narrow their focus. I've both lived and advised others on this dynamic: nobody (myself included) naturally wants to feel like they've artificially limited their opportunities and thus want to 'cast a wide net' with a general representation of their skills.

Phyl, this is fantastic advice, and job search councils sound great. I'm lucky to be past that initial stage but deep into technical interviews. Seriously, why are we expected to memorize algorithms off the top of our heads?! I mean, on the job we Google and use Stack Overflow all the time. Don't judge, but I even resorted to using an AI tool that listens in and basically whispers answers during an interview. I landed a great job after using it, even though it felt a little shady at first.

Which cheating AI service were you using? (asking for a friend) ....

@@NoahRamq It was called interview hammer, and the only way to get caught is to tell a friend, so keep it to yourself and don't tell a friend 😜

Hey Lenny...In your next video, you might want to change the channel screen shot which shows 68.5K subscribers (at 01:52) - you are now at an outstanding 141K! Now, I'll continue with the remaining video. Thanks for everything!

Great insight that you should ride the technological trend, even if it means that you get a lower status or pay temporarily.

I think Phyl might have a book he wants to promote! Love the podcast Lenny and thank you Phyl
@nikoskipper7459Ай бұрын
why would you say that? Phyl said a bunch of great stuff during the podcast that you can use now for free, there is a bunch of free stuff on Phyl's page you can start using now. The book is just one of the things he does to help people, and yeah, bills need to be paid... I think the podcast was great!

All the book sales are matched (that's 2x) + Phyl's speaking engagements that go directly into the community, which supports thousands of job searchers. Wouldn't that be worthy of promotion no matter the scale? Did you actually hear/watch this episode? You may have missed the point.

Do the councils extend outside of the US? I'm UK based.
