Landbased barramundi fishing with lures Cairns

I go to one of my favourite spots just outside of Cairns to chase barramundi on lures landbased.

Hey Broomie - long time subscriber here, love these video's as someone who fishes the top end once a year on holidays. Question - do you use lure clips? Or just a loop knot from leader to lure? If you are using clips what breaking strain and which would you recommend for 60cm-100cm barra and threadfin?

@Michael-ih9tp hi mate, I don't use clips anymore as I had a couple open on big fish. I tie my leader to a small solid ring then attach my lures using a split ring (the stock split rings that come with lures are fine in the estuaries). That way i can change lures heaps without losing leader length and without worrying about clips straightening

Great videos. I'm in Cairns at the end of this month and I'll be doing some fishing off the beaches and estuaries. My question is how do you avoid/be vigilant of crocs. You don't seem to be all that worried in many of your videos😄

Thanks mate. I just don't go near the waters edge if I can't see the bottom. It's probs hard to tell in the vids but there is always shallow water in front of me

Thanks mate! I'm no expert, but I only get barra on the big tides when water is pumping. Around Cairns I only fish if there is a difference of at least 2m between high and low tide. Look for areas where the water is pumping (like a creek mouth) and creating little eddies. Fish those eddies 😁

U reckon for the type of fishing you were just doing a Daiwa laguna 4000 with 20lb braid on it, paired with a 4-7kg rod is good for that purpose?

Pe0.6 and 12lb leader on the lighter stick and and pe1 and 20lb leader on the heavier stick
