No oxygen + no sunlight = no decomposing. I've helped move old landfills into new ones. It is amazing the trash looks like the day it was thrown out.

@@brandonlowe3509 The old tin soda cans that where opened with a pointy can/bottle opener looked brand new aside from being dented. 10 yr old newspaper looked like you spilled coffee on this morning's paper. Wet and brown but intact and very readable. I talk from experience.

This is true. The late anthropology/archaeology professor William Rathje used to read newspaper dates to find out how old garbage was during his garbology project. Some of the oldest he found were thrown away in the 1960s

Just goes to show how long exactly stuff sits after it's dumped in a landfill and covered up , people seriously don't realize that all of the crap they throw away is sitting somewhere else where it could eventually harm wildlife and our water...the stuff doesn't simply disappear.
