Makes a better weld. (Kinda late now 😳) It’s coming along good! Last one I saw was that drive clutch magic. I’m telling ya, you got them boys in Trenton who make the “Skeeter” kit plenty worried! 😉

I did my time under an airframe fitter , can I make a few suggestions ? I would purchase a tube notcher or make one so that your joins have alot closer tolerance , also a pipe bender , there is alot of structure there that can be made in one piece instead of having 2or 3 joins in them it w I'll be alot stronger , for instance the landing skids could all be one piece, also where you have joined 3 or so sections into one ( bottom under engine ) maybe think about some plate and bolt each section to it , there is alot of weld and joins focused in the one area ( risk of cracking ) with the plate you can spread the load out and alot cleaner welds along with more surface to weld to . I would also suggest not moving it around in and out of the shed until airframe is complete , fabricate a base that is square and level in all directions and then use this to build off of , then with a series of plumb bobs and points indexed to the square base you will find it will be alot more accurate , also I would consider an engine plate mount as the one in the video won't be strong enough , These are only suggestions mate you have done the hard yards and I love your work but you only get one FUCK UP with these machines and you don't want it being a mechanical or structural one once in the air , helicopters as you are obviously aware are very prone to vibrations have everything exact and true will eliminate alot of it .

Hello. First of all, I've seen all 6 videos thus far and I'm amazed at your metalworking skills. I was an Aviation Structural / Hydraulic mechanic in the US Navy and an air crewman / aircraft handler so I know how important the accuracy and QUALITY of these parts are... Holy crap your good. I'm sure the CNC helps a lot. I was wondering why didn't you just use a pipe bender for the skids instead of welding pieces together to create the front curve? Looked like a lot of unnecessary work.

Just a note, they are supposed to be skids. There should not be something protruding below that may snag on the ground. Also the rear should curve up a little also so it does no dig in and send the tale rotor into the ground.
@ET_Don
@ET_Don Жыл бұрын
It's not uncommon for type-certificated helicopters to have wear plates on the bottom of their skids. Skid wear plates much cheaper to replace than the actual skids.

It bugs me to watch as Im thinking those pipes would be good as dual fuel tanks, {maybe little kink in near off center both sides favoring weight chopper sitting slightly ether forward or back} and tap "low point" inner side {shielded}, would need two pumps going to visible center fuel tank, or run thin breath hose from top of tanks to rotor to let force air help push the fuel along, or cooled exhaust better to give fuel pressure ....governed by shut off valve in main tank etc.... I noticed ocker flag one time, are you British or Aussie?
