Hello Hello From Canada!!! I am new to your channel and I am so excited to check out all the episodes you have produced. I hope this is not a dumb question, but I am not a member so I can not yet see the final install, so is am wondering if the diameter shown now of the hole for the Jesus bolt, or have you kept the same or gone to a bigger bolt diameter. I'm not sure if you may have had this question before, but I'm a structural designer and I'm really curious if you opted to use a larger bolt or not? t is Incredible to watch your approach to creating each item as detailed as possible, so your videography for the project is amazing and so great to watch as you progress. Thanks for all your extra work sharing this all with us. I hope you stay safe, healthy and as happy as you possibly can be. 🤘😁👍

@@murmur3966 Hello and thanks for your comment. To your question: No i did not change the diameter of the jesus bolts for the early flight tests, but i had to make a pair of updated, lighter rotorblades. With the new rotorblades the diameter of the jesus bolts is safe in regards of the centrifugal force created by the spinning blades.

Superb video and job building the blades, very interesting and thanks for sharing it. Where did the blades balance in the chord-wise direction ? How close was the weight of each blade to each other? Not sure what adhesive you are using but I had an adhesive failure because I didn't etch prime or acid treat the aluminium. I was using 3M 2216 B/A adhesive, very expensive stuff but I didn't do a test sample. I suspect what you have done will be fine but you could add some trailing edge rivets just to be sure. Laminar flow separates way before the trialing edge so they won't make a difference to blade efficiency. Regards Ben
@ultralighthelicopter Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben. The chord-wise balance is close to 25% from leading edge. I had to replace some steel tubes (as requested in the plans) with aluminum tubes at the back side of the blade to get the chord-wise center of gravity more forward to the leading edge. Had planned to use rivets you can see the bore markings here: 21:57 but after bonding the blade the adhesive seems holding the trailing edges super strong so i wait with riveting and keep a eye on it how it will hold up after the first spin ups... I weighted the blades, they both show the same weight but my scale is only to 0.1kg exact... Cheers
@Ben-Dixey Жыл бұрын
@@ultralighthelicoptersounds good to me 👍 if you do have any trouble with higher than expected collective forces then you can always add springs to the mechanism, many helicopters have springs on the collective when the blades chord mass isn't perfect. Look forward to seeing some blade spinning. That's when the fun really starts.

The one suggestion that comes to mind is that you should have made a 3 blade and use it for load and stress tests.
@ColinWatters Жыл бұрын
I think you should taper the root reinforcement. If its going to fail it will fail where the root reinforcement ends.
@dannydetonator Жыл бұрын
If they calculated and/or simulated loads and correct materials, this shouldn't fail. 20 screws and less stresspoints and more unbroken lines keep the moving parts stronger. Actually 22 specialised screws, looks overengineeredThis is also composite and looks very well worked out.

@@simonalbertocalderonflores854 Simon: Sir, the video has everything needed to make a set of blades, (rotors), which can then be used on most, if not all of the Homebuilt choppers this size. As far as bending the material you're probably going to have to locate a shop that has a large enough "brake" which can bend the material to the shape you'll need. Watch the video several times and make NOTES so you can refer to them as needed - I even sat down and did some detailed drawings I could refer to so that when I build a set of aluminum blades such as these I can do it knowing I will get it right the first time But for now I'm working on building three sets of all wood blades for a 60's vintage Bensen B8M I have. Why three sets, (?), well one set is to test a theory I've been trying with for awhile and if they produce any appreciable lift then I will share it with whomever would want to use them on the Bensen / Brock type gyros that are still in use, or other similar sized aircraft.

This video came up in my feed somehow, but all hail the algorithm for it,,, I’ve watched a few a have a number of questions, but will wait until I get through the series as I’m sure it’ll become clearer. But you, my friend, are a madman,,, lol ;) I wish you the best on this journey, you appear to have a handle on it and know what you’re doing. Unfortunately, so many people through the magic of video editing and KZbin, may appear and come off as an engineer, far too many have earned their degree’s from the University of KZbin. I myself am not an engineer, though I play one on TV,,, (or YT),,,, ;) Tho through my 30 years of fabrication I have learned a thing or two and can speak confidently on a few things. Again, I haven’t made it far in the series yet, but did you have to address any heat-treating issues after welding any of the aluminum? With all your bell cranks pivoting on threaded / partially threaded stainless (it appears) fasteners, I would think that bushings of some sort would be appropriate? Some, from what I could see, are pivoting on the shank, but some appear to be riding on the threads, and with the constant cycling and vibrations,it would seem a bit safer a long wearing. Yet again, I’m no one but a stranger from the internet making an observation and offering you a well deserved "Atta’ Boy".
