Fantastic video when I saw it was 40 minutes long I thought, I may need to skip some but worth every minute. What was amazing is watching your face as from the first landing you did and the confidence and skill you showed as you did it more and more. Plus I noticed that your first approach over the field was at nearly 60kts by the time you were taking the kids up it was nearer 50 which seemed much more appropriate. This video goes to prove that experience is the best teacher. Well done Nick.

From you, Terry that's a huge compliment in my eyes, thank you! It was indeed a bit of a "different" day but what I've learned in aviation is that when you do something a bit unusual, it's usually one to remember! You are absolutely right in what you say that experience is the best teacher! It is an amazing how we are able to adapt to different situations and with a bit of practise, what you found hard first time becomes subsequently quite normal! Landing back at Hawksview that day felt like the easiest landing of my life!

A lively landing. A master of understatement Nick. Flex wings always make me think of a flying motor bike. Anna seems to be the most pilot like non pilot I've ever seen. Definitely a time to have your neck on a swivel, I imagine having Anna's assistance on the look out was a bonus. The expressions on the faces of the children is absolutely precious. What a treat for them.

Nick, that was a very interesting episode, which took me by surprise, because it was so nice to see John Bradbury again. John taught me to fly flexwings about 20 years ago, from what was then Arclid. He was a brilliant instructor. He has put on a bit of weight since then, as well as years. Haven't we all. I'm 87 now, but I still watch the video he took, on my camera, of my first solo, with his commentary. If you do see him again, please tell him that Des said hi and sends his regards.

Brilliant! Giving those kids a taste of grass roots aviation while supporting a charity - well done! I notice that you end your transmissions with a repeat of the airfield name. Is that a microlight thing? When I was flying I was taught to open the transmission with the station name I was calling, and end it with my own callsign.
@LetsGoFlying Жыл бұрын
Thank you! When we use "safety com" or the microlight frequency for airfields which don't have their own dedicated frequency its good practise to start and end your transmissions with the airfield name to help prevent any confusion as to who you were talking to! Thanks for watching!

Another fascinating video 👍✌️😊 Jacket or T-Shirt that confused me! Meanwhile "Shall we all do the same thing?" (Re landing - I had visions of some sort of Stop The Pigeon scenario 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤕🤕😕🤣). Gary was getting into position to shoot you down "I'm switching to guns"😀😀😀 Dad and I spent most the time landing in farmers fields like that or worse, up hill one way in/out. I wasn't with him when his take off run was under a motorway bridge though🥴😕😉 Also he did a charity flight and the red arrows did an air prox on their way to Kemble (the local USAF and RAF airfields' ATC weren't happy with the red 1 and wanted it reported - dad declined as no harm was done and his px hadn't even noticed!)😳😳✌️💜

A lovely comment as always! Garry is a good friend of mine but he's one of those people that really knows how to get on my nerves! He knows what annoys me when flying and then just does it anyway but he is also truly one of the kindest people I have ever met and I really enjoy flying with him - we have such a laugh! See - this is why I wanted to do this! This is how microlighting was "back in the day" when everyone was flying around in 2 strokes! Your comment encapsulates the nostalgia perfectly.

Hi Nick What would you say were the main differences between the Skyranger and the PA 28. Anything you found hard changing or easy .keep up the good work 👍
@LetsGoFlying10 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the question. I would say that the PA-28 is as easy as any microlight in the air but some finesse is required in the roundout/flare because of the difference in weight as well as being seated higher off the ground. The wheels touch down much sooner than they would in my Nynja for example! Apart from that, it's an aeroplane so the basics are pretty much the same!

Hi Jeff! G-NIIX has got a rotax 912 ULS with an E-Prop. She climbs well and cruises about 85-90kts comfortably but will push on at 100 if you are prepared to burn the extra fuel. The Skyranger airframe is brilliant 👌

33:04 Hey, actual question: Why do you intentionally leave the fuel pump off for takeoff? I have not flown a plane yet where you'd even consider leaving it off for high risk stages of flight. Would love to know the thought process / reason behind it. A very nice video you put together here.
@LetsGoFlying Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! On the flight there I noticed a very minor fuel leak coming from the pump. The aircraft has an extremely reliable mechanical fuel pump. In fact some aircraft in this class don’t have a backup pump!
@Juhujalp Жыл бұрын

@@richardwomersley9761 I would when my prop is set up correctly which it wasn’t that day. That’s why I was struggling a little with the take-off’s. It’s a long story but it’s pitched correctly now! Landing in 200m with clear approaches isn’t an issue. If it’s just a fence or small hedge to make it over I can’t see that being too much of an issue either. It depends on the approaches.

@TheGalwayFarmer Жыл бұрын
It's the UK civil registration system, all aircraft have G- followed by 4 letters. I think you can choose a personalised combination if it's available, though not certain.

@gordanmilne7034 Жыл бұрын
Great video Nick, you've definitely got your mojo back.
@simonbaxter8001 Жыл бұрын
There are 2 cost options when you register an aircraft, the cheap option is to get the next available registration in sequence. The slightly more costly option is to get one that is out of sequence and somewhat personalised. The cost difference is a few hundred quid and the only limitation is 'no rude words' ! I built a Vans RV-6A some years ago and in the 90's, a standard registration was £60 and an out of sequence registration was £260, so I went for G-VANZ!

It is indeed! The CAA charge you for the privilege and the reg stays with the plane for its entire life and even after its gone - they can't be reused.

Hello. Did you have problems with your old hanger. Also on some of your older videos the attention span towards other traffic seems overpowering. How can flying be enjoyable with all that is going on.
@LetsGoFlying Жыл бұрын
It was just time to move on and I already had an aircraft at Hawksview as well so I moved it into the same hangar - it just made sense. Regarding traffic - you have to stay alert to it. I’m very cautious particularly when I’ve got someone else in the plane as ultimately I am responsible for their safety. Traffic can appear very quickly so I have a healthy, cautious approach to it.
