It's so quiet I can't get over it I had the same problem with my T-28 with the lights I left it for a year my OCD kicked in it took me 4 hours to fix it lol . Great Flight and review of its characteristics excellent job John PS I always land like a low fly-by just off the deck

I'm wondering how long I'll be able to deal with reversed lights. 4 hours you say? Yikes! Good strategy for landing. That's "flying it in". I'm a little particular about prop/spinner balance. My normal thing is to: - Check for balance audibly before maiden. If prop and spinner aren't going to rip the motor off, I go maiden the plane without anything further. - After maiden, I balance prop blades and the hub as-needed. - This is about the time my aluminum backplate spinner shows up and that goes on the plane. Switched to that little strategy after breaking a couple of props on the first takeoff roll. Figured why waste the time if it'll fly without damaging the plane for the maiden. I really do not like the sound of out of balance props/shafts/spinners. Grates on my nerves. This one is dead quiet out of the box. Jaw Dropping! :)

Robert Ortlepp. That’s exactly how landings were explained to me, when I began this hobby. The same as a low pass, only lower.

Thanks for the tip on taxing with a strong tail wind. I just started flying an EFlite Mustang 1.2 and it also is pretty easy to land and takeoff; steady right rudder pressure as u gradually increase the throttle and off you go. Landings are even easier.

I have recently began to fly warbirds where before I avoided them due to the fear of take offs and landings. Fortunately, a friend is helping me with landing them. It takes time to learn to keep up your speed and use the Throttle to control altitiude and not the elevator. For landing I use high rate on rudder and lower rates for the elevator and ail's. I need lots of rudder authority to control the heading. One tip my friend gave me , we have a long runway as u do, is not to touch down until the plane is past your. Gradually I am getting it.

It's a little weird at first, but it sure lets you grease them in when you figure it out. Good luck with the learning.

Past you,? How far past you? Your touch down should occur where you have good visual on pitch and speed. Too far before, you can't judge speed or pitch, too far after the same. 20-30 feet before you, about a couple of inches above runway. Practice with a plane that requires your throttle and rudder inputs, to land, which is really every plane. You don't fly it "into" the ground, you fly it "to" the ground. Watch his landing at 10 minutes with 2-3 flares above the runway, not good practice. A steady, controlled descent, to the mains, avoid the flare screw ups, I fly a Hobby King Gee Bee R2 35cc, as well as Top-flight P40, P47, ESM P51, and a 3D aerobats, 3D helicopter, . Fly every plane you have with appropriate inputs, avoid complacency. Start slow, foam planes will often forgive mistakes, but most guys fail to correct the bad habits.

My 8cc mustang does the pancake. Off power coming in low it drops quick, I use a little throttle to keep it flying until touchdown. Gotta land with speed.

I have a video of my P51 doing it. Coming in over the runway about 15' off the ground--not exactly slow, but slow enough for it to shed about 10' in a second.

I have never heard of elevator down when taxiing with a strong wind from behind the plane. Thanks for that tip.

You're welcome. Elevator up in a headwind. There are rules for ailerons too. Right aileron down when wind is from starboard rear quarter. Left aileron down when wind is from port rear quarter. Right aileron up when wind is from starboard front quarter. Left aileron up when wind is from port front quarter.

It depends which force is stronger during downwind taxi your prop wash or the wind. Tricycle landing gear bounce with up elevator during taxi and take off. Try a little down until sufficient speed is achieved for better steering, neutralize then gently lift off.

I haven't flown an actual warbird yet, but I've taken scores of flights on simulator with a P51 sim plane.. The problem I have with most every plane is when landing flaps used. I cannot "fly it into ground" unless I substantially reduce speed to near nothing. Otherwise the plane always climbs with neutral elevator. So I have to nose the plane down if much of any throttle is engaged. My best simulator landings of warbird were with minimal power and almost dead-sticking plane to the ground. I'm just flying a Ranger 1220 now to work up my proficiency (no flaps) Let me know how you counter the "ballooning" effect with flaps on.

A 6.5 pound warbird is very easy to land! Try the same thing on the 33 pound model and you will find that there is a huge difference.

Funny thing is I try the same thing in full size planes and it works. A 33 pound toy is very easy to land.

With all the gyro and stability added in the receivers, planes nowadays are easy to land unlike the balsa warbirds with nitro or gas engines that has/had the same tendencies as the real warbirds, wing drop, stall etc..

@@RCVideoReviews Are you serious when you say that you do the same in a full scale plane? , Foam planes no more replicate a full scale airplanes flight characteristics let alone a full scale warbird. I would say no living RC pilots flew WW2 warbirds. However a foam warbird has more similarities to a helium balloon than a full scale warbird. You demonstrated this during the video, mistakes with no consequences, "that was ugly" several times in the video. Had it been a 30 lbs properly wing loaded,, "one an done", Repeated mistakes can and often times becomes a permanent bad flying habit. Near vertical takeoffs, high alpha slow landings, rudder and throttle paralysis, to name but a few bad habits, the foam "warbird" reinforces. You learn next to nothing with these foamies. Take a balsa, ply tail dragger, fly it with control . But, people would prefer to delude themselves into believing they have appropriate skills. Look at me look at me I'm flying a warbird, In your dreams.

What is you technique to get the tail up and no torque on take off. Also, appreciate the guidance on landing with more power. I e been trying to land to slow.

It takes some touch on the throttle and rudder to keep it pointing straight. Slower application of power usually limits the effect of torque.

The majority of airspeed is lost during your controlled descent, certainly not by a series of flares. A controlled descent is necessary for a landing whether to the mains or 3 point. A fast landing to the mains has less negative outcomes than an improper flare. Takes should be from the mains once sufficient speed is reached with minimal angle of attack. A useful practice should you desire to fly higher wing loaded planes

HI Sean, Thanks for the nice comment. This is a Dynam plane. About the time I did this video I had a run of sponsored Dynam plane videos from Bitgohobby so the folks that have been following the channel knew that. I forget that lots of people come in to the storyline cold at some point and may not have the history. Thanks for the suggestion...

@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the prompt reply. Actually I did pick it up later in the video when you mentioned Dynam and because I put my Hobby King FW 190 in last week, was looking for replacement. While the Hobby King was OK, the landing gear was too short, not to scale and tended to make the plane nose over very easily and far more on grass.. I have the 1400 mm FMS version but it's too big to fly at the field now available to me and I'm finding the war birds in or around the 1200 mm range far more suitable. My problem when buying planes is that because I'm living in Thailand, I'm obliged to pay an extra 10% VAT, 3.5 % import duty, around $80 shipping and what ever else the local post authority needs to buy his wife or girlfriend to make her happy this week. As result, a plane costing say $200 USD elsewhere is likely to cost as much as double that by the time I get it into my hands. While there are local hobby shops in and around Bangkok, I don't live anywhere near Bangkok and so it goes on to make RC flying a very expensive hobby here if wanting to fly the best.

@@kellio48 I did a whole series: Unbox, Build, Maiden on the Dynam Focke Wulf. I did not fly it off grass, but the ground handling on our runway was superb. Sounds like a real challenge getting planes in Thailand. How expensive would it be to make a trip to China and bring a few planes back in one go?

@@RCVideoReviews Not a bad idea but but the Thai authorities would still charge the same import and VAT fees at the airport on the way back in. I did bring a couple of planes with me from Australia when I first came here but they were planes I'd had for a while so were second hand so the rules don't apply. However, they opened the packages at the airport to make sure they were indeed second hand and now, when the bans are lifted who knows what restrictions there will be on International travel? Anyway, if I do buy one, I'll consider buying through your link.

I love that term pancaker. A lot of these warbirds are. I think one of the most common mistakes I see is trying to float these planes down. My B-26 Marauder will flat fall out of the sky if you don't fly it down.

Yeah, filming with the gopro isn't ideal. Unfortunately Chris was out that day and that's the best I can do with no hands.

@@RCVideoReviews Well i would edit out the stuff where you can`t see the model, and try to fly much closer to the GoPro. I have a DJI Osmo Action but there is no zoom. Maybe a regular camera would work better at capturing the bigger picture?!

@@mybluebelly That's what I usually try to do. Sometimes I leave that distant material in when I'm saying something meaningful, but I do wind up cropping quite a bit when the plane isn't readily visible.
