First of all, great job from both drivers- really shows who's who in F1 with these conditions. For Lando to start the lap so compromised and still snatch pole by 1.2 seconds is crazy good, especially considering that mistake according to Stella cost him somewhere around 3-tenths. All the professionals agree that this lap deserved it today, he really was in a league of his own. And when you think about it he really did this twice in SQ3- the lap where he went to the gravel (might've been pole by an even bigger margin if he had kept it inside there)- and again in the following lap. Superb

@@flintey360well not necessarily they are only down in drs and not in just pure top speed. McLarens car does naturally have more downforce than mercs especially through the high speed sections.

The Fia are knobheads, Lando didn't go off at all. That said the McLaren understeers naturally, I think this helped in the water. Lewis was getting mega overnap moments he needed to correct his car. Well don't Norris, the lap was mega.

Norris really takes a tight line in these slow corners, which seems to work quite well. Reminds me a bit of Russell's qualifying lap in Belgium 2021.

@@kendracampbell3458 Yep, Lando was taking a different line to everyone in that quali session too, which as you said is where Russell got the line from. On the outlap for the sprintshootout you can actually see Lando exploring the kerbs and going a bit all over the place probably to establish where he wants to go on his flyer.

RedBull arguably had more downforce too, and tyre warming in these conditions is largely down to the driver actually- don't take my word for it as its been addressed by most of the drivers and TPs or race engineers. That lap was still mega and ultimately completely unchallenged by anyone on the grid too. Not to mention his teammate didn't manage to find any answer what so ever

It’s because he ran wide on the last corner before starting his flying lap. Usually happens that way because you can gain an advantage down the straight to start your lap faster, thus cheating.

@@ehh300 They didn't need to determine anything. They choose whether they're using that rule and publish it in the race directors notes before the race weekend even starts. They just made a mistake here as that rule is not in the race directors notes for China.

Best driver in F1 right now without a doubt in my mind. He smashed Max by 2 seconds, that's with a bad launch to his lap as well. He lost an estimated 0.3s. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE is surprised either. Says it all really.

@kakmaster6945 Look at the F1 Sprint Qualifying analysis - McLaren was only 0.02 seconds off the pace of red bull, effectively meaning he's the second or third fastest on the grid right now. Don't know where u got the "5th best" from

No. What tv showed was the previous lap. In some tracks when you go out, you get both laps deleted ( like austria ) cause you may start the new lap with an advantage (that's determined ont the race director notes) Here in China according to those notes, you only get deleted the one in which you go out, that it was the previous one. That's why the lap is valid.

@@Humpback-kd6rj it's pretty clear. Before every gp fia uploads a document with race director notes that are track specific, that is of public knowledge, you can check them. The difference between China and Austria is that there's gravel on T16 at China. On that note, that's why the notes of those circuits are different.

Your opinion is dumb; car performance is largely equalised in wet conditions. And the Mercedes isn’t so inferior to the McLaren that the performance gap would come out to 1.2 seconds 😂

@@justinwalpole8956 He was 1.1 seconds down on Norris’ time through 2 sectors. Absolutely no chance he qualifies any better than 4th even without the gearbox failure. Piastri is nowhere close to Norris in wet conditions. Hamilton’s lap wasn’t even close to being as impressive as Norris

The main difference is Lewis missing almost every single one of his braking points and understeers off the corner, therefore lose time and distance. Lando really judged where the grip is perfectly.

Lando always get the special favors. If he didn't go wide off track he would have probably spun out. So he did get a benefit. Besides the track was wet so he didn't "lose" any time because everyone was driving slower than usual. F1 with it's inconsistent rules when Lewis is involved.
