I’m like you, if I pick up a book I’m going to finish it 99% of the time. The only two books I’ve ever DNFed are The Other-Thomas Tryon and The Regulators-Stephen King

I was worried that Floating Dragon was going to be on this list lol. In my late teens and early 20s I tried a number of times to make it through Lolita but never succeeded. I finally made it through the whole book in my late 20s or around 30 thanks to the audio recording by Jeremy Irons. I didn’t really care for the book’s premise or its dark turn towards the end (very accurately captured in the 1997 film btw), but was somehow fascinated with what I considered the virtuosic writing (if that’s the right word for it) and the intricate wordplay. Irons’ performance of the book definitely helped me to get through it. Now, later in life, I don’t think it is a book I would ever pick up again. As for As I Lay Dying, I have tried a number of times (valiantly) to make it through that book but never did. The only thing of Faulkner’s I have ever enjoyed are his short stories. I would have to agree with Charles Bukowski (whose writing I like very much) said, Faulkner will put you to sleep faster than anything lol. I wasn’t familiar with the other books on your list.
