Big thanks man! You don't know how hard it was to figure out whether Nest Wifi Pro can do Ethernet bridging (at 10:00). NOBODY talks about this but you, not even Google or Amazon. You are SO GOOD!

Great video and explanation of unmanaged switches! I understand them now. I watched it because I am thinking about switching from my Nest mesh system to the Nest Pro. Only thing I am worried about is the fact that my interior walls are concrete block, and house is 3200 sq/ft. Is it true that the 6gHz doesn't work as well through concrete?

Great Video. What happened if you plug in the remaining access points via Ethernet port instead of the "Globe" port? I have the 1st gen google wifi with the main unit set up as you described and an ethernet connection to unmanaged switch. However, from that point onwards, I have always connected with remain access points via the LAN ports and it works fine. Should I switched to the "Globe" port or this is specific on the Nest wifi pro?

Great info, thanks for sharing! Question; I have 1 Nest wifi router w/ 3 wifi points (my mesh) & I have 18 nest cameras, 10 google lights, 2 nest hubs, a wifi LG frig & a nest thermostat all wifi connected. Since I’ve added the last camera & frig I’ve noticed that my cameras keep going off line, which is very frustrating. In order to fix this should I add another Nest wifi router & do a wired back call or should I add another wireless wifi point to my mesh somewhere else in my home? Every time I do a network check I get a “your internet speed is blazing fast!” Download 415 & upload 11. Lastly the weakest point is the wifi point I have in my garage which is not attached to my home, both r brick. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank u!

WiFi 6 can only connect to the 5GHz band or 2.4GHz Only WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 can connect to 6GHz band Only WiFi 7 can connect to more than one band at the same time and only with a WiFi 7 router/mesh. Nest WiFi Pro doesn’t support that.

I did Wired Backhaul from Upstairs to Downstairs because we have T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and we get the best Signal and Speeds from the main T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Gateway being Upstairs and now we get the same Speeds Upstairs and Downstairs. I wouldn't say any Brand Network Switch I would definitely recommend getting only Name Brand Network Switches such as TP-Link or NetGear.

Best to get a mesh that can run in access point mode, check out the TP Link Deco XE75. You can connect it that way but need to go to the deco app and set it to run in access point mode. I personally don’t recommend them at option but it should work.

My question is can I connect both my tv and my ps5 to the two Ethernet ports on the back of the extender. Know a lot more than I did before watching your video. My application is 2 buildings about 10 feet away from each other. The modem is located in the back corner of the thrift store away from the pantry. I want to have wifi in the pantry. My thought is to buy a 3-piece mesh router. Locate one next to the modem, hardwire the 2nd to somewhere the middle of the thrift store, run conduit from the thrift store to the pantry and locate the 3rd node in the pantry. Will that fly? You can connect the Google router to your existing router. That way your Google router is an Ethernet switch. At the same time you can connect your Google wifi extender to your Google router. And you can connect the extra Ethernet switch to the original router. So that way you have many Ethernet ports.

Friend good night! I purchased 04 Google Wifi Pro. Here in my house, where the internet signal (ISP) reaches, the 02 UTP Cat.6 (Commscope) network cables, come from my room and my son's room. There's no cable in my daughter's room, so I'll have to put the device in wireless mode. See if my connection diagram to prepare the Mesh network is correct: ISP Modem Port → Google Wifi Pro 01 Wan Port Eth00 Port Google Wifi Pro 01 → Eth01 Switch Port Eth02 Switch Port → Eth00 Port Google Wifi Pro 02 Eth03 Switch Port → Eth00 Port Google Wifi Pro 03 Google Wifi Pro 04 via wireless connection.

@landpet

Well if it's a separate router, you can just replace that with the Nest WiFi Pro. If it's a modem/router combo, typically it should have a way of disabling the router portion. If not, you can contact your ISP to request just a modem. If you have no other options, I would get a TP-Link Deco XE75 or something like that which has Access Point mode. I forget if Nest WiFi Pro supports access point mode or not.

I have the wired backhaul but the Nest WiFi Pro Point (test mesh) keeps showing as having a weak connection and dropping internet. At 11:37 you can connect the main router Nest WiFi Pro to your old WiFi router and it's built in switch with the modem connected to its WAN port. I have AT&T fiber and you have to use their WiFi router even if you end up disabling it, it then goes to my old WiFi router that now has the WiFi disable but I'm still using it as a router.
@landpet
@landpet 9 ай бұрын
I think there’s some confusion. So at 11:37, that is not a router, it is an unmanaged switch. An unmanaged switch only expands Ethernet ports. So in my setup, I only have one router which is the nest WiFi pro. The problem seems to be you have your AT&T router that’s in use. So the nest WiFi pro and the AT&T router are essentially fighting each other with their signals which could cause slowing and drops. What I recommended, is either stick with your AT&T router (and don’t use the Nest WiFi pro) or completely disable that and just use the Nest WiFi Pro as your main router. Also just for clarity, you still need your AT&T modem to provide internet access. So if you have a modem/router built in, you would need to disable the router portion of that or call AT&T and ask them to replace that with just a modem. If you have a separate modem and a separate router provided by AT&T then you would just omit the AT&T router and connect the nest WiFi pro directly to the AT&T modem to set that up as your router. Hope this helps. I would also recommend watching my Network 101 | Simplified explanation of a Computer Network kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2Gld6t3Z954i7s

Scenario... I have two Google Nest Wifi Pro devices. One is connected directly to the modem and used as a router. The second is only plugged into power and acts as a wireless "point." My question is if I connect an ethernet cable from the unwired point directly to my computer, will those speeds be faster than the point wirelessly connecting to that computer? The internet my computer is receiving will still be wireless, as it is now, but I'm wondering if the fact that I connect that wireless point to the computer with an ethernet cable, if it'll increase my speeds. Thanks so much; your videos are some of the best online.

Wow ! I'm upgrading from original Nest Wifi to Nest Wifi Pro and you mentioned I wouldn't have to re-connect all of my 20+ devices as long as I use the same exact Wifi name and password? That is HUGE! Hope that works because I was dreading having to re-connect all of my IoT stuff when I changed routers (lights, thermostats, cameras etc.) Also, what exactly does switching to Bridge Mode on the modem do? I just received a brand new 6E cable company modem/router combo .. if I plug my Nest Wifi Pro into that, you mentioned I need to switch modem into Bridge mode .. does that just disable the router portion of the unit, so the modem isn't working with TWO routers then? (being the internal one AND the external Nest). Thanks so much.

Correct in both questions. 1. Yes, remember the wifi name and password are both case sensitive. 2. Yes, bridge mode disables the router portion of the modem so you wont have 2 routers when you connect the nest

Two ?’s- Is there a Maximum amount of Google AP’s you can have on a Google Mesh Network in one residential area? I need to set up WiFi coverage over a very large area in a 15k sq ft mansion/compound.. Which device is handling DHCP-modem or G-Router? Great video!

No more than 5 is what Google recommends. Unless you are doing wired backhaul, I personally wouldn't recommend the nest wifi pro for a place that large. You would need something much more powerful like the TP Link Deco BE85 or Netgear RBKE963.

Very informative video. Is it possible to connect multiple nest wifi pros directly to modem rather than nest wifi to nest wifi? If so, does this improve the speeds? Thanks

No, only one nest wifi pro can connect directly with the modem

It will figure it out, you may need to restart it but that’s about it. No factory reset required.

Hi, posted a quesiton but was able to solve. Just a quick addiontal one: made a wired backhaul with 2 wired APs and 1 wireless AP. Turns to be that sometimes the wireless shows excellent connection while the wired shoes "good" only. Any idea?
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
Doesn't make sense to me, but just run speed tests nearby as long as it's very good then you're good to go. For wired backhaul, you should get the same speeds by the node or by the main router assuming your internet speeds are 1Gbps or less with this device.

Two questions1. Do I need to keep one Wi-Fi pro connected to my modem via Ethernet? 2. Google home app made me name each mesh a different name and those names show up as separte entities in my settings, I thought mesh was just extending my main router Wi-Fi rather than creating different named Wi-Fi spots.
@landpet
@landpet 10 ай бұрын
1. Yes 2. It's supposed to be one wifi name. Maybe you have a modem/router combo, in that case you should disable the router portion of the modem/router combo so the nest wifi can take over as router. Then simply add another nest in the Google home app will extend your Wi-Fi network, it's all under one SSID

Hi thanks for your video. I have a house with 3 Google WiFi Pro. Between the different rooms I have a CAT6 ethernet cables. When I am going from the first router Google WiFi Pro router to the second room, do I connect first on the second room first on the 2nd Google WiFi Pro and then connect the second Google WiFi Pro to the unmanaged switch OR first to the unmanaged switch and then connect the unmanaged switch to the second Google WiFi Pro ? What is the difference between this two options ?
@landpet
@landpet 9 ай бұрын
For the most part, there’s not much of a difference. The most important part is connect your modem to the nest WiFi router. After that you can connect things in almost any order. It’s more about your preference. The technical difference is minimal between where you connect your switch and would only make a difference in very rare cases. I can make a whole video explaining it lol. The short version is there’s almost no difference.

Hey, I have a question that I haven’t really been able to find a definitive answer to so far. I plan on using 3 of these in my home. One connected directly to my ISP modem/router, then one connected directly to that via Ethernet backhaul at the bottom of my garden where I have an office space that’s just a little too far away from the main access point. So my question is this, can I then have the third Nest Wi-Fi Pro set up using the wireless backhaul, meaning one is wired and one is wireless? Thank you. Love your videos.

If your modem has multiple ports can you connect both routers directly the the modem?
@landpet

short answer is no, long answer is it's complicated. if your modem is a modem/router combo and you want to create separate networks but it's not going to yield the most typical outcomes.

Is a setup possible like MODEM > Google Wifi Wired pro > Google wifi Pro to > Switch. Or should I do Modem > Google wifi > Switch > Google Wi-Fi. I think it make more sense to connect the 2 wifi points using cable directly first and then add a switch instead of using a switch in between the 2 wifi point ?

When using the wireless backhaul, if i plug the other one in a another room could I connect my computer via ethernet? Like I should be able to take the second one and plug it up and power on and use one of the ethernet switch for my computer correct? (not regarding how fast speeds are, just will it work) I've looked online but I'm not getting a consistent answer. Thank you
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
Yes, that will work. Speeds will not be great but it will work. While I haven't tried it with the Nest WiFi Pro, I have tried it with the Nest WiFi and a bunch of other mesh systems. I have yet to try one that doesn't work.

I have a very large farm land ( 700 mts x 400 mts) and my source is a satellite link. How can i spread the internet over the entire farm area. since the Google nest WIFI pro has a small area coverage, I don tthink this will be a feasibile solution. to add to the complexity , the farm land is about 200 mts away from the sea - so its going to be breezy and highly humid n salty air. TIA

I have no experience with this but you need to pair you existing router or mesh system with something like this and probably more than one but maybe start with 1. www.amazon.com/dp/B0B231J81C/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_NJJ5DVNDWYB9BQXWDJXJ?linkCode=ml2&tag=landpet05-20

Can I connect one point via Ethernet backhaul and another point via wireless backhaul? I’m planning to get a 3 pack but one point is going to be far away but I have an Ethernet cable that runs through the walls to that location, and the other point is not going to be far from the main one so I’m planning to connect that point wirelessly because is fairly close and I don’t have an Ethernet cable there.

Interesting fact to know that you can't go from the modem directly to the switch. Currently, i have my setup from the modem (att) directly to the switch, then i connected my Ruckus AP's to the switchports, and it works flawlessly. Is there an explanation as to why i can't go from modem to switch, and i have to connect the nest directly to my modem? I'm looking to change the ruckus AP once i get Google fiber installed.

You can go to a managed switch, my examples are referring to an unmanaged switch.

it should only be enabled if you have a 6 octet IP address in your country which most places in the world do not have. In America, it's IPv4, you don't need IPv6.

I have an Xfinity combination Modem/Router that has 4 one gigabit ethernet outputs. Assuming I can figure out how to put the Xfinity embedded router into Bridge mode, can I choose any of the four ethernet outputs on the Xfinity box to connect to the Google Nest Router? Or is one of them 'primary' for lack of a better word? Also, if I leave the Xfinity Router active, can I connect the Google Nest Router to the Xfinity box ethernet output and choose the same SSID as the Xfinity Router?
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
Question 1: One of them should be the primary one, I would assume, it may vary based on brand but I would assume there is one "primary" one once the router is disabled. Question 2: No, if you left your Xfinity router active, you can't set it the same name as the Google Nest WiFi Pro, the signals would interfere with each other and things would just not work or time out quite often.
