Saw this game a few months back, followed it and backed immediately. It looks like a great way for the wife and I to enjoy RPGs by ourselves

My wife and I are trying to do the same right now with Agemonia. I could see this one too, and the streamlined nature of some of it is very appealing for that reason.

Thank you for letting us know that this is not a Dungeon Crawler/combat game that it is indeed more of an Choose your Adventure game and indeed very little combat and more of a reading choose your own adventure skill check game.

To be clear, I personally don't think that's a bad thing. But if you're looking for fight-fight-fight, this game is going to have a much greater variety of other gameplay. Is a lot of choose your own adventure style mechanisms not your cup of tea?

I'm of the opposite. I would most likely not buy the game if it were out now, but the thought of waiting and knowing I have something coming in the future gives me great joy. I have so many games to play already

@@meeple oh yes I went through the classic buy/back everything in my first year, but I was lucky... I got to pick up Earthborne Rangers, 7th Citadel & Continent and Sleeping Gods Distant Skies retail... now I have things like Agemonia and Spirit Fire backed... ten in total... and the wait is exhausting (dramatic) - I've stopped buying so all I have is the waiting. [I should make it clear that this feels like my ideal game, and I'm really excited for it]

This game also has TRUE SOLO. You can play as a single hero and not have to manage a whole party.

Out of curiosity, do you own many other games of this type - Gloomhaven, Agemonia, etc?

I like to stop by and hear what y’all have to say about a game. My first thought is that Awaken Realms has pulled ideas from Gloomhaven and implemented them into their gaming universe.

I think comparisons to games like Gloomhaven, Agemonia, etc. are natural, but this one truly feels like a BIG part of their intent was to make it feel VERY much like a full RPG experience in more of the D&D sense (for what it's worth). I would say if you enjoys those types of games, and can justify adding this one to your collection as well, this one might be worth looking into.

I have watched through some of the reviews and playthroughs, but one question still boggles my mind. It can be, that I missed something, but is there any dice result mitigation in this game? Maybe as the story later progresses.. Or we just roll dice upon dice, like in a usual RPG. I mean under dice result mitigation, like change/raise die value with x for y times when a keyword triggers; add dice values together; flip a die to the other side, etc. Other than: The usage of fate tokens - to reroll any number of any kind of dice Support from other characters with keywords - add more dice to the roll Divinum - when it is triggered - add a die to the roll Because till now it feels like a wonderfully written, tense 'role-playing gamebook', with audiobook, maps, character sheets, miniatures and a character creation hand-book, with the basic mechanics of a 'choose your own adventure book' game. Roll a bunch of dice when an event is triggered, and sometimes use your "Luck" or items to roll once more or roll with more dice. Success or fail, no chance/space to fine tune (at least a bit/or sometimes) your result, then take the next page.

Campaign games are always a lot of investment it seems and my group has had little return.. I’ve heard many people complain about AI art as well which always bums me out too but I honestly can’t tell most of the time

Awaken Realms is pretty up front about their use of AI to assist their artistic efforts, but I don't think it's simply AI stuff. On the campaign front, I agree. I AM optimistic about how this one breaks it up into more digestible mini-campaigns though (ala Stalker kind of).

I think I agree with you. It just seems better that the mechanisms a player takes part it are more fun when they represent what THEY are doing. Can you think of any other great examples of this in the last few years?

I don't believe so. I think it will be possible to have multiple players use the same race - at least to some extent. I apologize if we said something that suggested otherwise.

Yes, you can have just one character for each race and profession (due to limit number of respective tokens with keywords/characteristics)

@@meeple Nothing to apologize for, you guys did a terrific preview! It's written in the "Chose your race" section @1:27 , which really puzzled me. This seems an awesome game with deep RPG freedom and your choices bearing great relevance, and to me the concept conflicts with the idea of explaining to someone "there is this huge character creation, but you cannot make your character an elf, because Steve just did so, and Amanda picked a dwarf, so you are limited to only a human now".

Interested but only in principle. Not backing any *new* board game world ever again. The first edition is for the greater fools. without exception all first editions had flaws. Have a nice day.
