Thanks ! Us guys who ain’t familiar don’t get the ratio stuff. THIS is understandable BY FAR than somebody saying...”just mess with your ratio”. Clarification & base line IS important 👍👍👍.

You guys are lucky, here is south Texas they don't sell 47# bags only the big bags. Doing a DIY job so the buckets will work great for me. Thanks for the good tips!

Your still confusing people. Make a line on the bucket where 1 bag of Portland reaches. Now dump it out and fill it with sand to the same level 4 times. That’s 4/1. You can use any container. You could do 1 cup of Portland and 4 cups of sand, it doesn’t matter. If you want to get exact with shovel full amounts, count how many it takes to fill up to the line on the bucket and multiply by 4.
@borders065 жыл бұрын
How is that confusing? U need to have 4 parts sand to one part portland. Fill bucket to top with portland then do same with sand, I dont use buckets as we do a particular amount of shovels as we have measured that amount. For 30 years people have been told 4 full buckets to bag portland, that's not a 4 to 1 ratio. I'm not forcing u to watch, if ur confused then dont watch em.
@nesc395 жыл бұрын
Borderline USA here’s why. “For a 4:1 mix your not gonna use a full bucket. Go 2” down from the top. Each bucket is 5 gallons and approx 15” so that’s 4 times 2, so 8” down cause theres 4 buckets, that’s means your gonna use 3 and a half buckets for 4:1 mix” Idk how people dont understand. Get a container and fill it up to with cement and dump into a pile. Use the same container and fill it up with sand 4 times. Mix the 4 sands with one cement. Done. I’m not picking on you I’m just pointing out that it’s very simple

Ur telling me things that are already pointed out. We tell people 3 1/3 buckets in the other videos. I'm not even sure what point ur trying to make as what ur saying was already said in this video and many others.

I always use 2 sand if I'm not using 1 sand. 1 inch all the way around the circular plastic piece. And only 18 mini shovels from grams garden shack the shovel is 8 inches in total length with good grip. But anyways use that 2 sand mini shoveler.

Are you using mason or river sand for your mix? I worked with a gut that started with a river sand switched to mason for better results and stouter curb. River had to much dirt where mason is pretty much clean crushed rock crumbs. I am watching this video because I for got the ratio while watching a guy making planter boxes for raised flower beds.

@@borders06 I'm not using whole bags of cement and then basing my sand content on that. With 94 lb bags I get approx. 2.5 batches per bag. I use buckets and fill them to the same height to achieve a 4-1 ratio.

Hi , DIYer here . I have some old solid 4"x8" cement bricks i want to use as a retraining wall on a remote property. the soil is a very white sand. I want to make some mortar on site using just that sand and Portland (no limestone). The job is nothing fancy . What mix and ratio you recommend.

Or do you think using sand with fibres n sum other bonding agents is more durable. And can I ask you I've just found out that using a small amount of suggar can also help slow down the trying process by up to an HR or 2. Have u ever heard or used it before

You can't use anything that is pre mixed, you must used sand with portland cement and mix yourself. Mortar mixers are what you need, not a barrel mixer.

Works just fine for fence posts! (I work at a fencing company). I’ve been on jobs where we had to tear out posts with that ratio, and it is STUPID strong (jackhammers definitely needed). No clue what constant sun will do to it though.
