Thank you for advocating NO TOUCHING! It's so very paramount in creating a strong image that speaks loudly as opposed to one that's been manipulated and beaten to death! I ate that smudgy powdery look that occurs! Thanks Alain for your true expressive style of working🙏🏻

Well I am sorry Alain, your “dull” starting point is an awfully nice picture. I am envious of your “dull” example! I do appreciate you naming the pastels as you use them. Your final picture is miles above with such wonderful mark making! I want to have your mark making skills when I grow up! er. . . . Perhaps I can say when my pastel method matures! Thank you for showing us how you brighten up our paintings. Wonderful video I look forward to seeing you again soon!

I'm back! Having taking one of your little classes a week or so ago, and using the pastels I had (Nupastel sticks and a friend's leftover Carb-Othello pencils, I looked at your recommendations for materials. Well, Sir, didn't Amazon have a sale on Sennilier soft half sticks? Didn't I order some? Yes and yes. Oh my word. What a difference that makes. Thank you thank you. I'll definitely keep watching you.

Thst was so helpful Alain you really transformed this painting and showed Thst not all is lost and to a great extent things can be remedied. It also showed how to do small expressive strokes to make a painting pop, to really observe how to observe what you are looking at in a reference photo and interpret it in s better way, invaluable

Just caught this! Wel, this time you shocked me by taking mud and making it beautiful! My thought at first was that you were going to wash the mud away and make it an underpainting and then go on top with a "punchy" color selection. You surprised me and showed me that mud could go beautiful. I appreciate again wanting us to learn to be brave not matter what the condition of our painting. Thank you!

Love it! I am fascinated by how you apply pastels, like leading an orchestral with your arms! The lights around the tree make it look like a Christmas tree, ttho'. What is a textured board? Do you prepare a board with gesso? As you can tell, I am a beginner! Thanks

Thanks for an amazing video. I do have an un- related question, what tape do you use to attach you work to the board? I have tried several tapes and methods of pulling tape off but no matter how carefully I remove or reduce the tack of the tape I still end up with small areas of paper coming off. I use Art Spectrum colorfix paper and Artist tape.

Alain, I just wanted to leave a separate comment about your work area/filming area, the three panel black area looks cleaner, more austere but I am wondering about the paper towel roll that was visible before, where you wiped the pastels on it before you made marks, is it just out of frame now? Or have you changed your method of working? And how are you keeping your pastels clean? Still trying to refine my work space and I am looking for anything that will help, thank you for sharing your expertise and have a wonderful day.

Hi Alain, Interestng process on brightening up a duller painting. I suppose its a matter of taste as well, as painting darkness is almost part of the styles as they evolve. Great execution in the painting. If you guys are looking for more landscape painting, check my channel at ShawNshawN. Thanks for sharing Alain. Hope to see more painting soon.
