In this video I accept a 1000 step challenge by fellow photographer @oddbjørn austevik foto. It is quite straight forward, I am allowed to take 1000 steps from my front door to take one photograph. I walk in the direction of the beach with my Canon 5D MKIV and Dog in hand, but will I find a composition at the 1000th step? Enjoy.

Fantastic Thomas. Watching you and Monty doing the challenge made my month 👍 Had me laughing from start to finish! My wife really hoped Monty would walk into the composition at the end there! Thanks for taking up the challenge, hope many will do the same 🙂 PS, your photograph was great! All the best!

Thomas a quick tip, if your Canon 5d mk iv touch screen is as sensitive as my 6d mk ii, use it to take the photo to catch the wave. As long as you are in manual focus to ensure you don't focus and meter automatically the sensitivity of the touch screen will not introduce any camera shake. I use it all the time for catching wave motion, no need for a remote. Try it.

We don't have too many epic landscapes but I really hope one day you'd come and shoot in the mountains of Bandarban or the countless serene rivers in 🇧🇩. Love your photography, you're a big inspiration in my images that I just take with a phone. Hopefully with proper camera and a freer world, you'd shoot in my country (which is cleaner in the mountains, thank God) . Though I'm not crossing any fingers.

I'm going for the tech side....I bought the Footage and the Acrotech head (your older video on replacing your ball head) and could not be happier. I ordered a second bowl head for my Ninja Nodal head (already had one) so it makes switching quick and easy. The combo is an excellent get, and made shooting much less work and more fun. Nice to see you using it.

Very happy to hear you'll be shooting more film.. For those of us that shoot film more often than digital.. It can seem like old news, but it's great to hear you having that same experience myself and many others have had when beginning to shoot (or returning to) film.. It can really spark a lot of excitement, creativity and joy in photography. For me, a session with the medium format film camera where I take maybe two images that I wont see for a a week or two at least.. its often much more rewarding than a session with my mirrorless.. and perhaps due to increased care in composition, precise metering and better pre-visualization, usually leads to better images too. Have fun Tom! And I cant wait to see what road you went down camera wise.. Mid 90s, I'm guessing MF (170MP scans - yes please).. Could it be an RZ67? A Hassy? SG/SQ-Ai, Pentax 67ii? Or something 654?

Really cuts down on the challenge to have an ocean view 100 steps from your door. On the other having your dog with you could make the 3 minute time limit tougher -- though you are lucky not to have leash laws on the beach in the UK. Here in the U.S., in many places dogs are not even allowed on the beach. Hope you are right that the groupies will be deterred by your omitting the first bit of your hike to the coast, honestly good luck with that -- you are a brave man.
