My wife and I watched your video many times before our trip to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper last week. It became our GUIDE - - and we retraced your footsteps in the early morning hours to Moraine, Peyto and Pyramid Lakes. While my photos are a shadow of your quality, your video and stills were nothing short of inspirational. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I see so many comments regarding love, but honestly these moving songs cause a wave of nostalgia and realisation in me. I remember as a kid, I thought love was going to be this amazing thing. Truth be told, I looked forward to growing up, to find the liberty of life and have someone to share it with. But now as a young adult, I find myself wishing to be a kid. Funny how that happens. As a child, you wish to grow older but once you realise what a disappointment it is, growing up, you start longing for the past.

Great job guys! I was there in early August and took a bunch of pictures with an Iphone and Android phone at the highest pixel settings. My pictures came out looking pretty amazing because the sun was out in full force every day! My pics from Bow Lake especially look like the waters in the South Pacific - Bow Lake to me was the Crown Jewel of my trip and the thirty + pics I took there eclipsed those of Lake Louise.

@brianjsue6 жыл бұрын
Harpreet Singh sure. some of it is in the description, ie we did ~19-20hr days waking up at 4am most days and sleeping around midnight. that allowed us to catch every sunrise and sunset we could. we also went in June so the amount of daylight is really long. we also planned almost all of our spots before we even left for our trip and knew when we would hit each one. check our Darwin Wigget’s ebooks on the area, he’s got best times for each location. another thing we did was to stay in different hotels as we made our way up from Banff to Jasper(this minimized backtracking). hope this helps!

Great video, great photography 👍 I will be visiting Banff this July, my first time since 1996. What is the best time of day to photograph Lakes Louise, Peyto, and Moraine? Looks like the best lighting without shadows would be around noon or early afternoon? 🤔 I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations... I like getting early morning photos when the winds are calm; have gotten some nice lake reflection shots in the past. Just concerned about shadows. Thanks!
@brianjsue6 жыл бұрын
thanks for the nice comment! regarding shadows, i guess it depends on what you are going for, but backlit, front lit or side lit all have their place and can be nice. sounds like you might be leaning toward get front lighting ie the sun behind you, shining on the scene in front of you. personally i don't like photographing wide landscape shots in midday as the lighting is more contrasty and not as flattering (IMO shadows help define the landscape more). for midday i usually tend to photography waterfalls or canyons where the whole scene could be in "shadows" (aka even light) or just scout out locations for future shoots. in terms of time of day to shoot, i found this to be pretty helpful www.jamesphotography.ca/htptcr.xls and i also bought some of Darwin Wigget's e-books (www.oopoomoo.com/ebooks/). hope this helps! have a good trip in July!
@xcellassay48466 жыл бұрын
I agree. Nice photography. The best photos of these mountains takes advantage of the shadows. As for the areas to photograph, there are so many possibilities. If you have a lot of time, I personally think the best shots of the Valley of the Ten Peaks (Moraine Lake) are from Sentinel Pass. But that means devoting a day hiking to and from the pass. Also, keep in mind that there are multiple Parks that you can visit--not just Jasper and Banff, but also Yoho, Kootenay, Glacier, Kannanaskis, Mt Assiniboine, Mt Robson and others. For sheer grandeur, Assiniboine and Robson are the jewels but demand significant time commitment to access (although you can drive right to the base of Mt. Robson, which is worth it). Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park also is isolated but easier to get to and affords many different trails with different types of shots (mountains, lakes, waterfalls). Yoho Valley (a different part of the park) has a lot of good waterfalls for an extended day hike. For easy, quick in-out access and impressive views (beyond the standard drive to Louise, Peyto, Moraine, etc), I recommend Parker Ridge, not far from the Columbia Ice Fields on the way from Banff to Jasper.

Wow, this is fantastic, I'm considering a trip with my kids in mid-June of this year. Nervous the lakes will still be frozen and impact that spectacular blue that one sees. May I ask specifically which dates in June you were there? Any opinion on that? And I welcome input from anyone in this forum.
@brianjsue5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment Darlene! We were there from June 19-25th, 2017. obviously we lucked out and the lakes were thawed, but the timing varies from year to year depending on weather. here's a website about it. banffandbeyond.com/did-you-know-lake-louise-doesnt-thaw-until-june/

Awesome! Ill be headed out there this summer in mid August! I will be creating content around Banff and Jasper for a week. Any recommendations? Im not too big with crowds during shooting so suggestions would be great
@brianjsue5 жыл бұрын
lucky you! we went in June, so most of the crowds weren't there yet. i've never been in August but heard it's the peak time to go to these parks, so I would recommend to go to your most important areas before sunrise or late after sunrise. you could also adjust your schedule during the day and visit areas when most people are having lunch or dinner. in terms of location, if you go to the really popular sites (esp those with easy access) they are going to be crowded. but if you hike even just a little you should be able to find areas all to yourself. granted they may not be the iconic spots, but still could be used to create great content.

Amazing stuff. I’m heading there next year and will definitely be helpful to get some guidance. Did you guys use any filters at all, and what other settings did you use, ie white balance, or bracketing etc.? Thanks!
@brianjsue4 жыл бұрын
depending on the shot i used multiple graduated neutral density (GND) filters as well as the Lee Filters Big Stopper (10 stop neutral density filter). white balance I fix in post. I normally don’t bracket since I have the GNDs. in general my settings/technique depend on so many different variables
