I thought the first image was best out of the images and for me, the weather on the first day would be perfect for subtle pastel images and maybe black and white. Thanks for sharing your trip it makes me definitely want to visit there.

Lovely work Simon. You do have a rather controlled and relaxed approach to things. I do tend to look at weather apps but doesn’t often persuade me not to still get out. It’s a magical place and on the bucket list. Love the simplicity of the first image and the shapes in the second speak for themselves 👍👍

Thanks James. I am paddling like god knows what underneath this calm exterior :-) For me at least, it always seems frantic and out of control, like spinning too many plates! I'm heading back there later in the year and want to try and cover some other locations. I hate travelling around from my base, but Harris has so much to see. Staying in the south is better than the north though in my opinion.

Great video Simon. Excellent explanation of how you settled on that final composition. Less calming than your normal ones! You were out of breath there for a while. I feel your pain Simon with the salt marshes and compositions, I was up a few years ago and when I arrived at this location I was really excited, I thought there must be compositions everywhere but there isn't, you've really got to hunt around to find something that works, you came up with lovely image in the end though, well done.

"Never trust a weather forecast" - ain't that the truth! I have lost count of the sunrises I have missed because the forecast was for low cloud. I really liked the first image of the beach, beautiful simplicity. Do you like it? You said in the video that you weren't sure that the shot worked. What do you think now you've had time to see it on the big screen?
@SimonBoothPhotography
@SimonBoothPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Chris and thanks for dropping in. Now that image?...I don't really know? I think I'd get bored of looking at it, but then it's not my style. I prefer punchy colour normally! Other people here seem to love it. As I type this from my slightly minimised screen, I can see it as a thumbnail to the side on my Photoshop recent list and it does look good, but I think the white matting helps.

Cheers Ian. Bizarrely, this wasn't the shot. The one you saw was later in the week when I had a hail storm come through. I considered this to be a failure until I processed it and was pleasantly surprised just how well the Pentax had captured the colours. The one you saw is almost too colourful, but I have yet to look at it properly.

Absolutely fantastic! This was a superb video and what shots! I loved that one of the salt marshes and was definitely worth all the effort. It was really informative the walk through how you found your composition, thank you. The first shot was excellent too, and I’m presuming you edited the focus stacking yourself rather than rely on software? I’ve struggled in the past using software with grad filters, I got strange "smudges" for want of a better word. They weren’t there when I re-edited by hand. Thank you also for the accessibility information Simon, it is really useful for next year. We are definitely doing Harris for the big birthday now. I have a pair of chest waders for when I have to "knee walk" into streams and rivers to get a low angle shot because of my difficulties. I better leave them at home or I'll end up trying something silly and getting too fatigued to make my way back. I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series, as I’m sure it’s going to be excellent all the way through. Your production in this video was excellent and you really gave an impression of space. Well done and a third thank you for the entire video and the work you put into it.

Beautiful photos, really love your videos :). So calm and beautiful to look at. One thing that popped into my head whey you had to refocus first foto, in stead of refocus, would it be possible to focus foreground first, then set the lens to infiniti ? would that work or would it be best to refocus to be 100% sure to get the focus correct ?
@SimonBoothPhotography
@SimonBoothPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth. Thank you for your comment and question. I always focus by eye. Sometimes on infinity, distant objects look less sharp than they do with a slight tweak, although I realise that you view through the lens at the widest aperture. It's more of a habit that I have never tested!
