Hi Kim I absolutely love all your videos, you are such an inspiration to people like me who are just starting out on a journey of photography. I’m a 60 year old man and just bought my first proper camera and gear to start getting out and about as a pass time. Yes it can be a bit nerve wracking going out scouting on your own but at the same time very exciting too so hopefully the good lord will spare me the health to get out there and do what I crave to do in the future. Keep up the good work Kim, looking forward to more of your videos

Kim, Thanks for sharing your great photos, beautiful scenery, great composition and all perfect lighting. And a very eyeing opening Philosophy lesson on enjoying life even if it’s by yourself. I hope you're words reach many uninspired people. You, Thomas, Murray and many more landscape photographers have inspired me to get back out there after 20 years as a advertising photographer in the city of Chicago. Now, It's about (me) time as I enjoy retirement at 70, 71 in October. Keep going on your love for the great outdoors and Amazing Photos. Once a photographer always a photographer....!!!

Another inspiring video Kim. As others have mentioned - L brackets can be had for £20-30 and nodal sliders for £15 (although not really necessary, they can make stitching panoramas a bit easier if you can be bothered). Plenty of places to visit in Aberdeenshire - on the coast - Dunnottar you mentioned, Muchalls, Crawton (copse, waterfall and of course Fowlsheugh), St Cyrus beach. Inland - castles - Crathes, Fraser, Craigievar. Caledonian pines at Glen Tanar, Silver birch around Loch Kinord and the Burn o'vat close by. Further up Deeside - Loch Muick, Lochnagar, Old Brig O'Dee, Linn of Dee, Linn of Quoich. Then there's the mountain wildlife - deer, hare, ptarmigan etc ..........so plenty of choice!

Hi Kim, I'm glad you were inspired to go out and take the photo's... Bear this in mind Kim, if you put things off and do nothing, you suddenly end up too old, and in my case housebound with a wife that's ill, and thinking of the Wish I's that I wished I had done in the past... Make the best of it while you are young... Lovely photo's Kim... Looking forward to the next Vlog... Thanks Kim

I totally agree with you about doing research prior to setting out. Photos that others make can certainly help inspire & guide you. Also, I can certainly corroborate with you about cows. As child, I was chased by cows more than once. To this day, I will NOT enter a field, or any place, where there is nothing between me and the cow. Yes, to put it bluntly, I am scared senseless by them to this day!!

I think it’s really useful to research other photographers’ work, not just for the purpose of copying what others have done but also for developing your ‘eye’ seeing what others have seen and helping you to refine your framing and visualising. It’s been really helpful to me and I have learnt from the process. I forgot to say, great images, the colours and shadows were particularly beautiful. Wonderful video, again!

Your reaction to the cows made me smile. My wife is terrified of them. If we encounter a field with cows it inevitably results in a long detour. She actually has a good knowledge of the farms in the area and which fields they use when. Our walks are planed around grazing schedules rather than golden hour.

Wonderful inspiration video, Kim! And so engaging that I watched it end to end at 4am! You have helped me to understand why I find my own drone videography so fun...it's not just an obsession, as I sometimes joke, but rather that it has opened up my creative side...and that is so exciting!!! Thank you so much for helping me to understand ME! (Also, less philosophically, your apprehension about cows is very wise. They are unpredictable, and big, and not nearly as slow as they appear. I did a video about searching for some lost cows, and couldn't believe how fast they could run through some woods.)

Loved the video, Kim! I don't have an 'L' bracket either, but I take panoramas every time I'm out, always handheld and often around 15 images (5x3). Generally, I only have my 35mm with me, and that's on a crop sensor. Have faith in Photoshop, you'll be surprised how good a job it will do at stitching.

Well it does not make his pictures better.

Hi Kim, A beautiful video. Re the cattle (we have quite a few), if they're frisky they'll approach straight away and while I never trust bulls the rest will either lose interest or continue to follow every step. Yours looked disinterested and pose no threat (but I understand your caution). L brackets; for my Sony A7II I recently bought one from eBay for about 7 GBP (including postage). It's very well machined and does the job. No need for the super-expensive brands. You'll find a specific match (important) for your camera model. Harris and Lewis - how fantastic.

Kim consider getting a wide angle lens rather than shelling out more $$ for a FF camera. A Tokina 11-16 is an excellent lens which I have been using on my old D300s. Ironic thing though is that this lens has drastic vignetting at its widest on my other FF camera, so you see a FF cam is not always the one for best results. Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned (tongue in cheek) L-Brackets on eBay, very cheap and work a treat. Cheers on this vid too, I must try to sit down and soak it all in while I'm out with the camera... ** ps: You'll need a Quick Release Clamp to go with the L bracket too, also on eBay
@billonthehill99846 жыл бұрын
Lovely images Kim, always a pleasure watching your vlog. The 2nd group of shots caught the mood nicely. Just a suggestion here, the last 2 you could have done the pano in horizontal by panning the ballhead, then simply stitch them together in post, crop & size them to your liking. The crop camera is perfectly suited for doing this & the end result looks every bit as good as a full frame camera could do it... Cheers, Bill... :-)

Those are excellent sunset images! I would definitely recommend a wide-angle zoom going out to 10 or 11mm for a crop-sensor camera; Sigma has a very good 10-20mm that I've been using for years. Also, I'm surprised that you haven't seen any L-brackets for under £100 -- I see the 3-Legged Thing QR-11 I use is available on Amazon UK for £49.99, which is still a bit of a rip-off compared to the U.S. price, but is still a whole lot more reasonable. May I suggest a GoFundMe for equipment purchases or, if that seems a bit much, a public Amazon wishlist (which doesn't require you to give out your address, in case that was worrying you), so viewers can help contribute to the mission of your channel? I mean, you're contributing your days to the benefit of the environment, so I don't think it would be out of line for some of us to contribute in our own way to helping you spread your message. Incidentally, appropriate choice in songs near the end: "It's shining through/The light in you." It certainly is!

I'll echo what Raven Falls Photography has said about the Sigma 10-20 F3.5. A couple of months back I decided I needed this length myself and settled for this lens.It's been a great buy and has extended the range of what I can do tremendously. Given that it's been around for a few years now, there will probably also be some used ones available from the likes of eBay, Wex Photographic and maybe even on Amazon too,

I set off to the lake district last Monday with my camera intending to get some sunset and sunrise photos. Instead I walked up a big hill, slept through sunset and sunrise and hired a canoe. Kim, You could try a universal L-Bracket like this one on Amazon. a.co/2Dhw2hc It is a generic but if you compare it to the one from Three Legged Thing you will find them to be very similar. This is from the US Amazon site and I don't know if the same one is available on the UK site. I have one like this although from another seller and it works well. I used one of these for some years, a different brand though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJXJoGCghLWercU Mine cost me about forty five Australian bucks. It's difficult to get the top of a tripod properly level. With this, you get the tripod about right then get the camera exactly level with the head. Then, use this to turn the camera for your panorama.

Fullframe will make no difference, you just need either a lens with the coverage you need, or the skill to do panoramas. You do not have to have an L bracket. If your lens has the vertical coverage you require, there is no value in turning your camera to portrait.
