The conditions looked a bit unpromising for colour images, so B&W was a great choice. It was interesting to note how you use the ND filters to capture your artistic vision of what you want the image to look like. And the same can be said of your use of the tools in Lightroom. Great video and appealing images Andrew. Thanks. Chris
@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Chris, I think when you get weather like I did that day, it's a great opportunity to grab the ND Filters and try something a little different. The B&W edit, allows me to get things to pop, which it always a challenge in dull light. Thanks you for your comment mate, it's great to get your feedback!

Great stuff, as usual, Andrew! I actually liked the 10 stop shot more than the 16 stop. I was surprised that the lee stopper had such an extreme color cast. I use a cheap circular 10 stop that I bought for about 25 dollars. It has a slight warm color cast, but it's very minimal. I was expecting the lee ones to have almost no color cast considering the price!
@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, to be fair I not entirely sure it's all colour cast, although that's what i call it. I think it might just be the natural blueish grey feel on these sorts of days. On other days it not as bad, anyway it can all be resolved easily in post-process. Cheap filters are actually pretty good value!

Hi Andrew. I know this one is an older tutorial / video, but I've come over this today. I really like the mood you created in this picture and it fits so well to one of my shots of the Toronto skyline I capture last summer. Great work! I like your videos a lot One question: there was some serious banding going on the the lower part of the water in your image. Obviously it was addresed when you cropped the image but do you know why its happening or how it can be fixed if you decide not to crop it out?
@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support Nikolas. I think the banding was just from the way Lightroom was rendering the image, combined with a decrease in quality through the video compression. In the end, if I had chosen to crop the image with the lower portion included, it would have been fine.

@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, great to know you enjoyed the the video. You are coming up to just the right time over there. The image was still over 7200 pixels wide. Depending on the quality at which I wanted to print this image and what I was going to print the image on, I could go up to 70 inches wide for a good quality image, even higher for say a billboard. Personally though I'd would probably print this on quality paper at around 40 inches wide, with white mounting and a simple black frame. Thanks very much for subscribing mate!

Really great result in the end there. Curious as to why you were playing with White Balance and Vibrance at the beginning. Were you initially intending to retain it as a colour shot? I thought White Balance only affected colour images or does it impact the tone in monochrome?
@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, appreciate you commenting. Great question, one reasons was I wanted to demonstrate how the colour cast of the ND filter can be corrected easily. However, adjusting White Balance changes the amounts of blues and oranges in the image and Vibrance changes their strengths. Even after I change to B&W changing these adjustments can effect the image. Plus when I then adjust B&W colours mix the effect on the image depends on the amounts of blues and oranges in the image. Thats one way you can effectively get dark black skies in the black and white images but increasing and saturation of the blue channel and decreasing the luminance. Hope that helps! :)
@PaulTimlett8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew. I like to generate really black skies in mono (maybe a little too much!) and I do that by means of the blue slider and/or dehaze as appropriate. I've just had a play with the White Balance slider in a B&W image and I can see what you mean. Never occurred to me to touch that! Just shows you're never too old to learn!

Really exception stuff. With so much crap out there, I love the "simplicity" and attention to detail. I think the use of your filters and polarizers are key and would love you to chat as much as possible about this. Seems like you use the Lee Filter System from another comment I read and anything you can go into in explaining how you use that and figure out your exposure given the lack of visibility through your viewfinder (is it just histogram or are you using your guide or an app?) All of that is really great. You gained a subscriber.
@Andrew_marr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Justin and welcome to my channel mate. When the view find is closed I still can see the image in the back display panel, along with the historgram and exposure indicator. This three elements help me determine if I have the correct exposure. I've demonstrated in a few videos how I use the back panel and shown what I can see. In my latest video (uploaded today), I show how the Graduated filter impacts an image and darkens the sky. I'll include more of this information in future videos. thanks for the feedback and thanks also for the suggestion, Cheers! :)
