You can help but feel pumped up when you see the opening sequence and music score. Certainly looked like the weather sealing on the D850 was being well tested Andrew. Interesting to hear your thoughts on striking that balance between ISO and Aperture when you have the shutter speed in mind. Worked out well in the end for you as the images turned out great

@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Ross, I use a DJI Mavic Pro, it's still available even though they've also released the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. However, these can get expensive. The other Andrew was using a Mavic Air, which gave some excellent results and it much smaller and convenient the carry around. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Epic effort to make videos in these conditions. With the sun behind you so much while filming it’s easier to see how difficult the conditions are with constant rain, drizzle, or waterfall mist. Great images of the falls which I feel don’t get much attention which is a shame. Most likely due to it sometimes being a small trickle rather than the torrent we were lucky to have. Great video mate and some excellent thorough tips on camera equipment and settings to overcome challenges in the field
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew, I definitely feel we were lucky with the amount of water we had. The rain goes with the territory...if you're not photographing in the rain, you're doing it wrong! No doubt those conditions were tricky and the periods of harsh sunlight didn;t make it any easier. Thanks very much mate, hope you and Haylie are having a blast! 👍

Nice job at that second location - I'm digging the square crop (the last image you put up) - works quite nicely I reckon. Nice job not falling in the river... you know I was tempted to give you a push - you probably wouldn't have liked it at the time but it would have made for good footage.

Beautifully done as usual. I seek out and look forward to your videos. May I ask how you metered this? Did you meter off the water or something else.? Also ,did you use Matrix metering with the D850? Thanks.
@Andrew_marr

Thanks very much for the kind feedback and support for the channel. I use the histogram on the back of the camera, which meters the entire scene. From the histogram I can monitor the darks areas as well as the midtones and highlights. I make sure I exposure for the highlights so they aren't blown out, so in this case that was the waterfall, hope that helps.

Stunning! Where did you focus for the first two waterfall images - 1/3 of the way in? Leslie
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Leslie, as a general rule, focus around a third of the way into the image but it isn't a rule I stick to rigorously. For this shot I focused on the group of rocks at the end of the leading line of rocks in the foreground, hope that helps! :)

Rain, mist, uneven light - what a challenging spot. Great images Andrew. How did you go about getting the focus and taking the shot without getting mist/droplets on the lens?
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Miguel, they weren't ideal conditions and the location did have it challenges, but we worked with what we had and had some fun! For focusing I held a cloth above the lens to stop the rain used autofocus, took the shot and check the image...repeated multiple times I knew I had at least one in the bag I could use.

Wow, incredible images, Andrew, and especially liked the second one near the beginning of the video. One of my very favourites from all your vlogs. Thank you. One question please, is there ever an occasion when a polariser would not be used when photographing a waterfall?
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Tony, this was a great waterfall to shoot, I liked it's shape...the curtain look! I'd always use a polariser when shooting a waterfall. The only exception would be if I forgot to bring it...that's happen before! :)

I really enjoy your channel and I have learned a lot from you. Lately, though, there seems to be too much drone footage. In trying to skip past the drone stuff, I end up missing a lot of what you have to say. Could you please ease up with the arial stuff? You are a talented photographer whose images are beautiful. You don’t need it!

@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, thank you for sharing your thoughts, I'm so pleased to know the videos have been helpful. I try and be careful with the amount of drone footage I use in each videos as I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. Keep in mind that as much as the videos are about informing viewers of my approach to capturing an image and educating photographers, they serve also as an escape for people and hopefullly inspiring viewers to get out and explore locations. I also see value in the unique perspective the drone provides as it shares a different view of the locations I visit, other than the first person footage I capture with the vlogging camera. Many who watch the channel have never visited Australian, the aerial footage allows viewers to understand a little more of the context of the location. The challenge I have is I want you to feel as if you are there with me and the drone footage provides another way for you enjoy the surrounding views of the location. Interesting I also receive feedback that I shouldn't talk to the camera as much, some people don't want to see my face. So the b-roll and drone footage is an attempt to break the "talking head" up a little. Thank you again for your honest feedback Susan, I will continue to be mindful of the amount of drone footage I use in the future.

Hi Andrew. Love the drone footage - you're nailing the B roll in this series. That's a beautiful first image with the lead in of the rocks. Do you feel the pro glass stopper delivers sufficient colour cast improvement to justify the extra cost? I'd value your opinion as I need to replace a very broken Little Stopper. Thanks for taking us to another beautiful location Andrew. Really enjoyed the video - thanks for sharing.
@Andrew_marr
@Andrew_marr 6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Tim, thanks so much for the feedback mate! 👍 The first location could have resulted in an advantage image but the leading lines of the rocks helped with the shot. The Pro glass is definitely an improvement, lower colour shift and better quality. If you use filters on many of your images, I'd say yes they are worth the cost.

I am a painter and use multiple photos for ideas for my paintings . The “ silky “ water that is so desirable nowadays looks absolutely crap. Are you people blind ? Water doesn’t look like cotton. I can’t walk anymore so I use other people’s photos bits and pieces here and there . But the silky shit is useless . Who gave you this idea? That water is cotton? And you take away the wet look on rocks. They do look like that with water on them (wet). When I paint I highlight rocks to make them look wet . I don’t use your photos for my paintings.
