He still has all that rage inside and in the storysnin eternal its clear they never tamed him as he never took their help for his wounds and was always the first to fight. He just absorbed his rage into being mute. If they tamed him he wouldnt have killed the final priest cause he was in the arena, but he didnt care as he didnt care about them either, his mind was on humanity. Even hugo himself has said the slayer is seeing things like daisy in every level (yes she is still dead and him seeing her is cause his mind is basically gone) even 2016 says he is more or less just a murder machine that doesnt think much beyond brute force to solve issues. They never tamed him.

I think what this means is that the passage of time in Hell essentially stops from the perspective of anyone (or anything) there. And it is non-linear. Consider that it takes eons for a human to transform to demon without intervention, yet Hell continually creates more of them with which to invade other dimensions in less than that timespan (an eon is a billion years). So from an outside perspective perhaps only years have passed, but to victims of Hell it has been eternity. It is relativity on a massive, interdimensional scale. It was also said that the Slayer fought Hell for eons, or 3 ages between Doom 64 and Doom 2016. "The age of his reckoning was uncounted. He came, as he always had, _as he always would_ ". By the time Hell spit him out on Argent D'nur he had probably been fighting demons longer than our universe has existed. Hence him being a raving lunatic
