@@randybackgammon890 No,though I heard it on the radio and it did get in the bottom end of the chart at the time,in early 1987. I thought it should have got a significantly higher placing than it did. Their Top 20 hits were Making Plans For Nigel (autumn 1979),Sergeant Rock is Going to Help Me (early 1981) and Senses Working Overtime (early 1982). Generals and Majors just missed the top 30 in September/October 1980 but should have got higher in my opinion and seems ominously apt for the way the world appears to be heading now.

I love XTC and Colin's writing, but the beginning of this song sounds a great deal like the 1960s hit "walking my cat named dog" by Norma Tanega.

Ditto. By the way presumably you've seen the (very) Prisoner-inspired last episode of The Tube with XTC performing The Man Who Sailed Around his Soul? The episode itself inspiring a short comedy film with puppets, made by members of The Prisoner appreciation society.

It's Ian Gregory, Dave's brother. He was the drummer in most (all?) of XTC's videos after Terry left, starting from "All of a Sudden" from English Settlement (which therefore must have been filmed very very soon after Terry left). In that video you just see Ian's shadow though. He also performed on the Dukes of Stratosphear records.

That's not right Terry is in the All of a sudden video. It was a promo video released in time with the English Settlement album. Terry didn't leave the band until September 1982. This music video is from ca. 1987.
