"Simplify your process," is a great rule in beekeeping.👍 I real like that Larissa, so many new beekeepers get caught up in the excitement and can go a little😜honey bee crazy.😁 Very good points on the types of space the bees need. I look at it as "work space" and "living space." And bees don't see blank frames as living space untell it has comb on it, makes that first year difficult.😮💨 Thank you for sharing your time Larissa,😁have a wonderful Lords Day.👍

Thank you for the comment! Yes, it's hard when getting started to figure out what you need to know and what isn't necessary. There's a lot of things beekeepers do that's not for the ease of beekeeping or better for the bees but is for the sake of harvesting more honey or what commercial beekeepers do.

Very intuitive - a few errors in your cast but for the most part, good. If you’re starting from scratch and have no comb in your mediums/shallow, either rubber band cut out comb into medium frames or remove a frame from the super and replace with a brood frame, adding a 3” gap below and contributing bee traffic to the middle frame in the super. Cut out the wonky comb afterwards and band in another frame, with a bee hive drawing comb in a super.

Hi, great presentation ! Your making us miss Hawaii . Is there a certain time of year you have a nectar flow or is it year round ? Thank you
@BeekeepingMadeSimple10 ай бұрын
Thank you! My first nectar flow of the year is in February with the Mac nut trees, Silver Oak and Kiawe blooming. The flow starts to slow down in the early summer for me (but I don't have bees near the Ohia trees. This is when the Lehua blooms) but then the biggest nectar flow is late summer for the Christmas Berry. It's pretty slow from October to January.

Lots of good content and a pleasure to look at but if I can suggest that you upgrade your mic... this is the 3rd video I watched where the audio was very garbled and sort of sounds like too much breeze without a windscreen on the microphone

Just curious on the swarm information, couldn't you just add a 3rd Brood Box as opposed to a 3rd Honey Box? I'm new to all of this and am just now researching and learning.

Is there a reason why you don't use another brood box with the bigger frames for honey instead of the smaller medium supers????

Aloha! Would you please expand your comment on the inner cover. I am on Maui, north central . Lots of moist air blowing in daily.
@BeekeepingMadeSimple10 ай бұрын
For us in the warmer climates an inner cover is totally unnecessary. I've never bought one for my own hives and even made a video called What on earth is the purpose to an inner cover. The comments people left on that video informed me of all the uses people have for inner covers in other areas. The only time you might want an inner cover is if you're having trouble getting your outer cover off. I personally don't have difficulty with this but some swear an inner cover is a life saver.

The first step is to get your equipment and learn how to keep bees, especially in a colder climate like where you are. You should download my free book. It'll guide you through the first few months preparing for your bees - www.beekeepingmadesimple.com/freebeebook
