Why to try? we will go wherever we want to go it's our country I have my aadhaar card, Passport, DL, Pan Card, all valid in KA and pay taxes to both Indian and Karnataka State govt. The headquarters of ISRO is also located in Bengaluru. Bengaluru is also the first city in India to get electricity. Outsiders came here because they didn't have opportunities in their state. If you really think outsiders developed Bengaluru, then why don't these outsiders stay at home and develop their state instead of developing ours? @@loginfast4432 sign language is just like any other language. Some people know it, others don't. I don't expect locals to learn my language, and the same goes for them. They can't expect me to learn theirs. All it takes is a little compassion towards someone who doesn't speak your language. It's not impossible to communicate, you're just egotistic with your unnecessary level of pride for a language you speak. While I agree there's nothing wrong in learning a new language (I speak 6 of them), I may not be treated differently for not learning yours. Your language is not an obligation, it's choice. Period.

@austinred458 Being treated differently for not knowing the local language is a universal thing. Before ola and Uber kerala had strictly implemented fare meter charges for autos. They even fined hefty amounts for turning of meters and cutting wires for meters this led to autos to keep the meters in mint condition. They won't even charge a single rupee above the meter fare. That time has gone After Ola and Uber, the police were not able to take action as those using the apps turned off the fare meter.

Basically, dont enforce a language on anyone--be it Kannada or Hindi. We all know it is possible to survive in Bengaluru without knowing Kannada. Basic English or Hindi most people understand here. And with the flourishing of apps like uber, there is no need arising to interact with these auto guys. So I don't understand what is the relevancy of their opinion or what is their business in this issue. Dont they know who most of their customer base is? Dont expect people to take tuitions to learn the local language, unless they feel the need to. It is completely one's choice. If people want Kannada to be preserved, teach your kids the language. Encourage them to speak in the language without shame. It is not outsider's job.

Bangalore is not under developed. Don't you know that Hyderabad was for a long time under muslim rule so you know hindi. Just last night, I had another bad experience of north Indians. I don't say all are bad. But they are now bossing as they have increased in number. We live in a senior citizen home in Bangalore. We have quite a few north Indians coming and staying here. Now they are not working, they can go back to their place. But they have the audacity to make fun of south Indians and their language and food. They love the weather here, so more than work, they like the weather in spite of traffic and other problems. In fact we are suffering because of their large numbers. The civic structure has gone bad to worse. I wish they were more understanding like that Bengali girl who has a lot of common sense. You stay here, have some humbleness. Don't show attitude to the poor rickshaw drivers who toil in this traffic day and night. What if you were rickshaw driver in Bangalore? Imagine their plight. Sporadic incidents and you get a chance to make a big hue and cry.

The issue with southern India is that there is no lingua franca which means that anyone going there from other parts of India will not know which one language will work in all 5 states in southern India. This is unlike northern, central and eastern India, where Hindi works as the lingua franca. This makes it easy for a non-Hindi speaker to just learn Hindi and make it work all over northern and central India and most of eastern India. That flexibility is not there for those moving to southern India from other parts of India due to lack of a lingua franca. Keeping this problem in mind, we can easily break this issue into timelines. 1) A person moving to any place outside his or her native linguistic zone should not be forced to learn the language of that place if he or she is there for a short period of time, say up to a couple of years. A few very basic phrases to communicate with grassroot people should still be ensured. 2) However, a person migrating for longer than a couple of years should learn the language of that place. Because if someone is going to live in a place for long, then it is important to embrace the language and culture of that new place. These two points written by me above cannot be enforced and should be adhered to by the migrating people with all honesty. Societies work on mutual trust. The migrants need to respect the culture and language of the new place, and the natives of that place need to accept and absorb them. The natives need to understand that it is not easy to learn a new language, especially in the absence of a lingua franca in southern India. Therefore, someone who's there for a short while will naturally not be able to converse in the native language. And the migrants need to make sure they respect the place they're headed to.

During Covid time, Bengaluru was empty and the state govt.urged people to return to office. The forced tech companies to ask people to come back. Business was down and the state's economy wad struggling. I think that was a good opportunity to make sure non-kannada speaking people do not come back. Now, the state govt. should put pressure on iT companies and business houses on ensuring rhey all learn kamnada. If they are serious, tell the companies to implement this or else leave the city.

It's all about how you want people to accept your language. Being forced to accept someone's opinion is not going to sit well. The whole point of a language is being able to communicate, get your point across, like this video. If this was in Kannada, this video would be meaningless to more than half the Indians. I have just heard about this issue only in Bangalore. One thing the locals forget is that Bangalore has been made Banglore by these so-called "outsiders". No one likes to leave their home town and move across the country to settle in a different country away from their close ones. In Hyderabad, I don't see anyone forcing you to learn Telugu. If Bangalore continues like this, making it a hostile environment, they will soon lose out in the long run. With the crumbling infrastructure, its just a matter of time. I think the focus here should be electing the right person, who focus on development and not creating an issue that was not there couple of years back.

Instead debating argumenting, Kannadiga and state govt should take some initiative, so by roaming, commuting also people can learn. No body knows future. If we look, other states also investing too much for developing tech parks. if other state Kannada speaker will grow, it will definitely help Kannadiga in future. And also request other part of the state to add more third language option in upper primary and higher secondary level. So by looking to the career or future, a student can opt their third language and learn.

Why are you trying to copy Chennai? Bangalore has done well because of imported talent. While people who move in should try to learn Kannada, but its not always possible. The auto drivers fleece non-kannada speakers, so they are actually killing their golden goose. This attitude is also seen in the political class too for small political gains. What would happen is industry will move and along with that will move all the talent and the money they generate. Then there will be not that much employment opportunities or business. But then it would be too late.
