You might be interested in knowing that: 1) Assimil books from 2017 already include the audio cut so no need to use Audacity 2) I uploaded a whole video on how I learn Finnish on day 1 so you can see how a full study session looks like. Here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWiQn2ujo9-tmZI

instead of saving each clip individually, highlight, press Ctrl-B in Audacity to label each section. Then go to file - export multiple. Way faster!

I use to do the same but cutting the audio with Quicktime on Mac. Now I just use the built-in text-to-speech feature :) Much faster!

I was doing this 10 years ago with Pimsleur and Anki. Actually, I was using Jmemorize before Anki existed but it didn't have sound. I simply dragged and dropped the text and ripped the audio with Audacity.

Hello, congratulations for your channel, I like it so much, so, I'm Brazilian and I've been studying German with Assimil, I have a doubt, I should cut all the lessons in small parts, isn't it? And then should I create the words in one side and it's meaning in another one? Thanks.

How do you create bidirectional cards? Make one card that makes generated the reverse card?
@murphyryan25832 жыл бұрын
do you just do full sentences or do you individual words on anki
@robertoran9294 жыл бұрын
Hey!!! love your channel... Ive been watching various videos and i am trying to understand exactly what you do with the assimil material... do you make anki cards for every sentence? then the harder words you also make a card? how many words or sentences do you review in a day??? when do you make the card for the dialogue? the same day you study it? do you shadow the dialogues? you do one lesson a day, but how many lessons do you review a day? Im actually quite fascinated by some of the things you say in the video, but im trying to "make a schedule- routine". Also, do you ever study more than one language at a time? Thanks so much...

I discovered yesterday assimil had a downloadable version for PC and Mac. I bought the Russian. They've done all this work for you. The audio accessibility is phenomenal....
@pauchannel7 жыл бұрын
Wow, didn't even know :D are the audios cut in single lines like I do here? Or is it still full conversations? Cause if so it means that i'm beating myself unnecesseraly haha No but still i think the process of puting it on Anki helps a great deal, since I still have to listen to it very focused to try to understand what they say first. And the main point of this is the Spaced Repetition that Anki offers:)
@StephBsimon7 жыл бұрын
Look I was very skeptical but I downloaded the demo version because I wanted the material fast. The workflow is very very smooth. You don't have to juggle with the audio and text anymore. You can play the whole text, lines individually and even single words in the vocabulary section. I installed it on my surface pro and I can go anywhere with. Very very well organized... give it a try, I'm sure you'll find you may redirect valuable time instead of prepping.... I've gone through Hebrew with the regular method and really wish I had this back then! I may even give another shot at Hindi ))

I'm gonna try your method right away but using audio and sentences from youtube videos with natives youtubers
@pauchannel7 жыл бұрын
this is awesome Elver, i use youtube alot but i think downloading the audios might be quite difficult right? I mean, download then cut them and so forth. I think i will talk to my programmer to see if he can build us something from substracting simple phrases :D
@ralfrd57 жыл бұрын
well, download the video in mp3 to export it in audacity, that'll be the most stressful looking for the right and complete sentences and for sure write the sentences because they are no available in pdf, but the material is much more nature and spontaneous.

Can I review anki cards from target language to English because I find the other way round is taking a long time and is harder and I lose motivation and not able to complete anki everyday.what do u think?
@pauchannel6 жыл бұрын
id say that each card should be reviewed both ways:) you have to be able to express what you want (english to target), and also understand what they tell you (target to english). Thats why the best way is to get both ways done
@Epiphany_Beats6 жыл бұрын
pau yes I would but whatever I do I can't change it to have both target language and native language I'm so frustrated. The only way is to flip all the cards so I can't see both.I would have to keep flipping the card every time I review. So should I just do native language to target language???!

The most effective way ever? Sorry, but this is not the most effective. You are missing a big part of the learning process - emotions and experiences, which you don't get when you go over vocabulary this way. Language is not learned but acquired.
