I'm glad that the commissaires finally made the decision to relegate Philipsen for his dangerous riding, although I'm surprised that they haven't done it earlier, considering that this is not his first offence.

Philipsen absolutely shows psychotic tendencies when it comes to sprints. You can almost see his brain turn off and his body reacts purely on instinct, not caring about any harm that may come to anyone. It's legit scary.

Finally, but with one year overdue... Look back at finish of TdF 23 stage 3. Same situation Philipsen vs Wout, but no relegation that time. His dirty play in the sprints has been overlooked for way too long. Even yesterday nearly took down Gaviria.

We all know it's racing, but people's lives and careers are at stake. It's bad enough with muppets stepping out into the road and taking videos for their mums, or selfie idiots, but the one rider that really must get a grip is Jasper The Disaster. He's either got a screw loose or he's deliberately putting others at risk to gain his own advantage at any cost. Competition should be competitive, but there should also be due respect for fellow competitors, Jasper Philipsen clearly doesn't care about it - so maybe a few more relegations, fines and bans will make him heed the advice that I'm sure many have given him.

Yeah, and you can see in the Netflix series that Jasper the Antisocial is totally aware of the fact that he is endangering other riders, he even laughs about it. And I think what makes it even worse is that Alpecin boss Christoph Roodhooft also laughs about this antisocial behaviour and it looks like he promotes arsehole behaviour like this. The whole team is trash with no respect towards the other riders, the sport and cycling culture.

@joelecho
@joelecho 3 ай бұрын
The worst part of that is that I can remember 3 times where he would have caused one already if not for the rider sitting up. Wout today and in stage 3 last year gets crashed out heavy if he doesn't sit up (or has to dump Jasper on his ass to protect himself) and if I'm not mistaken, Bini had to sit up or be crashed out hard in last year's tour, too. Plus, in a dozen other races he has done it, I'm sure. Those are just 3 that come to mind in the first 5 seconds. I hope that a) commisares actually have the guts to keep relegating him for this stuff, and that b) enough lost results finally teach him his lesson.

Great point. Groenewegen (rightfully) copped a 9 month suspension for the crash with Jakobsen. When he came back, he underperformed immensely due to the fear of causing another crash like that. He spent time with Robbie McEwan, helping him get the right mindset back to sprint at the top level again, and has been a much cleaner sprinter the last couple of years.

I may not understand the term "pinching off", but I think it would be ok to accelerate past a rider on your right and just at one bike length pinch off the rider you just passed, moving in front of that rider you passed- if that is at the barrier, then that defeats the rider you just passed plus denies your wheel to someone else coming fast behind you. (that is kind of what Cavendish did legally the prior stage when he won his sprint, going so far to his left (granted not using the barrier). Jasper might have felt he had way more speed than Van Aert, but then Jasper should have proved it and not started pinching off Van Aert way before Jasper finished passing him, which I agree should be illegal. Lanterne says Jasper could have just gone straight and beat Van Aert and Dylan with speed,, also if Jasper wanted to legally pinch off riders, why didn't Jasper just move left to pinch off the friendly MVP and use MVP for blocking keeping riders off Jasper's wheel?

“History repeats itself again.” if you know what I mean, go watch all the Sprint stages last year from the tour and you will see what I’m talking about.

And Philipsen gets relegated for that but no action taken in stage 3 when Dylan got pushed and blocked by de Lie who had been moving all over the shop and no penalty.

While it's a shame that WVA didn't win this stage, I'm thankful he didn't injure himself due to the reckless bad behavior by Philipsen

How are UAE so amazing in the mountains but always so horrible on the flat. They just can't seem to protect Pog.

Phillipsen at fault and should be relegated BUT a rider is crazy to think they should punch a gap between phillipsen and the barrier. Rules and their enforcement is important but you still need to race to your rivals

The fact that he did worse than this to Bini last year and never got punished but now the victim is different and so the decision, different standards for different athletes, shocking!

I had a siesta too but back in Australia. They should have relegated Jasper P today and a few times last year as well IMHO. He keeps doing this with impunity. WTF.

Sadly it is always the same with Philipsen. It is just what he does. And he also did it in his first 3 wins in the last tour.

Would be super nice to have some commentary on where Cav was. Heard he was cut off around 300m to go but couldn't see how that happened or why he wasn't in the mix for the sprint.

The thing is Philipsen probably could have won if he didn't cut across Wout because he had to travel further to do so and also not he relegated in the process

finally… tbh, as he did this countless times and got a warning that very morning they could have disqualified him. Btw, Cavendish also has caused too many crashes with his behavior without being penalized (stage 5, Bauhaus relegated and Cavendish not… what???) - there are clear rules and the commissairs should judge all the same

The problem is not Jasper, it is the jury who are never consequent in their actions. What I want to see now is the jury doing the same thing during the next sprint. I will make the prediction now that they won't again, although the should.
