Hi Mike. Very informative videos as usual. Re Taxis at the airport. We holiday twice a year in Lanzarote and over the last few years we have found the taxi wait at the airport has increased from 10/15 mins to over an hour. This year we followed your web site recommendation for a private transfer company and the extra few euros paid was well worth it. Welcome pick ups were exceptional in every way. Thanks for your help.

Hi Mike, regarding Taxi Queue’s at the airport. We arrived on Thursday joined the already long line at 13:55 got into a cab at 14:30.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the update. It certainly must be busy on the island at the moment, we usually come out at short notice about now but all the good accommodation is full or prices have been massively hiked. Also just to mention re crash it doesn't necessarily follow that "both vehicles appear to have been travelling at some speed" - you would see similar damage if one vehicle was at 70mph and the other at 30mph as if both were at 50mph.

Work has finished and it’s operational for the ferry, car hire etc. The Mayor is working with some cruise companies with the aim of getting smaller, boutique ships into the port.

Thank you, and no, the road is still closed. The work required to repair it is a much bigger project than anticipated and it’s waiting on a costed plan from specialist architects.

So looking forward to our first visit on Fri 7th Feb. I've been watching regularly. I noticed above re booking a private transfer from airport. We were going to try the bus service. Hi Jane. The taxi queue depends on how many aircraft land at the same time, so impossible to say whether you’ll have to wait an hour or jump straight into one. Ayup Mike & Jules thanks for another great update. Regarding the ongoing taxi problems on the island. Guests staying in my holiday apartments frequently report difficulties in getting a taxi and often long waits at the airport. The simple solution is to allow UBER to work on the island. The powerful Taxi lobby have been successful so far in applying pressure to local government to not grant them an operating licence. This is very similar to the way that it took years and local demonstrations to allow the big supermarket chains, Mercadona, Lidel and Aldi to operate on the island to the benefit of everyone. Perhaps you could start a We Want UBER group give you something to do mate!! Regards John.

We have just returned from staying in Iberostar Playa Blanca. Had a great time. However l would like to report about the promenade behind Flamingo Beach. The pavers have worn or are missing at the beach bar end. It concerns me from a safety aspect. Also the lighting comes and goes so also a fault there. Is there any plans for this to be resurfaced as they are doing in Costa Teguise? Thanks Mike love watching your utube channel.

Yes, the town hall is aware, and they have plans in place to resurface it and install new lighting, but we don’t have dates currently.

Thanks, Mike. Some of the small shops which sell alcohol and tobacco in Lanzarote also do cash currency exchange....are they legal or is it money laundering? The usually say they are 'official'.... ? Thanks, John.

No, they’re not “official,” even though they all say so. Having said that, there’s no law against changing money for people, so neither are they “illegal.” I suspect the money ends up in the Hawala network somewhere.

They have natural water, and we don’t.

Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are the oldest islands at 15 to 20 million years. Both have eroded over geological timescales, and the lack of elevation means less cloud formation and little rainfall. The westerly islands are all mountainous with extensive rainfall and green landscapes.
