Hi Mike what’s the truth in the black flag that’s being issued for some beaches . Or is the news creating fear ?
@LanzaroteInformation
@LanzaroteInformation Күн бұрын
It’s an environmental group that likes to garner publicity by presenting some areas of Spain with so called “black flags.” The Cabildo monitors water quality here all the time, and if ever there’s an issue with algae or anything else, the particular beach is closed until it is safe for bathing again.

Great advice, as always. We always shop in the two supermarkets in Playa Honda although there are two fabulous vegetable shops in Tias - along with one of the best cafe/bakeries. I always buy one thing off him per trip never pay more than 5 euros and he knows now. He is always polite and throughout the stay we have a bit of banter and he makes me laugh. However, and i havent seen them the last 2 times i have been, is the deaf people who come round and they sell bits of tat. I was told they are not really deaf . What's the update on the sewerage being pumped into the tourist spots playa blanca it's going to put loads of people off
@LanzaroteInformation
@LanzaroteInformation 4 күн бұрын
There isn’t any sewage being pumped into tourist spots. There was a leak from a pipe, which closed the town beach for a few days, picked up by regular water checks. The sewage in all the tourists spots goes to treatment plants and once treated, it’s then used on gardens and golf courses.

Hi Mike, thank you very much for the news update. I really like the opuntia cactus, because of their beautiful flowers and tasty fruits. It is great news that there is a new use for them, after the dye production recessed. Sadly many opuntia (of certain kinds) who grew happily for many years now seem to have an illness which lets their leaves fowl from inside until they brake open to release a stinky liquid and only a paper-like hull of the leave remains, which causes the plant to produce many new leaves and few fruits. Do you happen to know the reason for the illness? Is it caused by a fungus or aphids? Sadly I could not find any information about it, since many people regard them as weed and don't care. It would be great if there was a cure.
@LanzaroteInformation
@LanzaroteInformation 6 күн бұрын
It’s a bacteria called Erwiniae, and it causes the tissue of the plant to rot and die. It’s fairly common and is easy to treat by cutting away the infected areas, but as nobody is tending the plants, they aren’t being cut.
