I think this is where LZ’s feelings slowly build up and start to grow😭😭 it was just a small crush when WY was still studying in Gusu with him, and then they do missions for the Yin iron together and it started to turn into “like”. Now I’m pretty sure it’s still “like” but much, much stronger. It’s not yet love, it’s still too early for him to feel that I think.

You're not right. In the drama he fell in love at the time when they were sending a lantern together. He already was in deep (he used his ribbon to tie their wrists and only parents and significant others could touch it). He was just raised with over 3k rules and he had to keep it in, he was the best disciple and he was following the teachings, the rules were too ingrained into him. That's why he never acted on impulse and on feelings. When he lost him he was broken and when he got him back he decided to never let anything and anyone stand in between them.

@@Mekitojika9 he tied their wrists only because WWX was going to be assaulted by Lan Yi’s guqin if he had not done that. And in the lantern one, they both shared the same vow to protect the weak and innocent with a clear conscience. There is indeed love there but it is not as deep-he did not understand it nor did he know what it was. WWX amused him in ways he cannot describe, and refused to bend to such feelings. But when LWJ and WWX started hunting together, that’s where we can safely assume that he started to fall hard. If you look at their chemistry in the first few episodes, there really is nothing there other than cute, little puppy eyes and teasing. When we get to episode 7 or 8, after the visit to Lan Yi’s cave, then you start to see that LWJ has indeed started to fall. Then we can safely assume that LWJ started to turn this admiration into something more than that. Love does not come at an instant-love at first sight is merely the mind assessing your attraction to a person and whether or not they are compatible with you. You only fall in love when you start to spend time together and get to know them better.

So if they did love, they loved hard with no regards for the rules. Lan Qiren and Xichen broke the rules for Wangji, Lan Zhan broke the rules for Wei Ying, and their father broke the rules for their mother. Lan Zhan acts on impulse-especially in the novel. What first comes to his mind, he does it. Like that kiss under the tree when WWX was blindfolded, or his instant instinct to protect without thinking twice.
