More from the travel vault - this time travels to southern Laos in 2016. This is a precious part of the world along the enchanting Mekong River. Beautiful, mellow and with limited mass tourism impact. It's a privilege to travel in Laos. Head over to our guide here -

I loved visiting Champasak. Even fewer tourists than the islands.

Thank you for sharing and bringing Laos to my living room. I’m from Laos long ago. I still want to visit Laos but could not find a time to come visit. I’m now living in the USA, Minnesota. Mr. Tong Yang

I always find myself returning to your cracking videos. In a world of self obsessed travel vlogging, its super refreshing. Your videos literally shaped my early 2020 trip to Vietnam. Even got to visit the great compass cafe in Saigon. Thanks for all your work.

Did you really counted the islands? I didn't know there are 4000 of them.

Agreed. Can't stand these idiots, who often use their girlfriend's backside as a thumbnail for clickbait views. So many 20-something wannabe famous vloggers with no language skills, no idea about history, culture or anything about the country they are in at all.

Everyone seems to skip Laos. I don't know why. So many expats are living there with their farm businesses. I saw one German farm that specializes in chocolates. All the cacao they are growing for the European market. Grown in Laos.

If you really like the traditional way of life unchanged for thousands of years, southern Laos is the place. It is hot in the south. But if you prefer chilly weather, you will need to go to northern Laos where the majestic mountains roam.

Your video brought back my childhood memories. Playing, swimming, and trying to catch small fish in the rice field. Swimming in the Mekong river and fishing. Walking on a dirt road to school. I was born in the south. We lived in Pakse for awhile right in front of the airport. Just subscribed to your channel.

Great video with equally informative narration. Dams are definitely becoming an issue. I remember the massive one between Luang prabang and nong khiaw that flooded a few villages and forced the inhabitants into the mountains

I remember seeing the first part of this video when you first posted it! It was the journey with the impromptu stop for those shady guys dropping off their motorbike, right? Classic. I know my own Vietnam travel memories, e.g. of my head hitting the bus ceiling due to the driver taking some particularly rough roads at an inadvisable speed will stay with me forever...

You should know better, mate, it was the American war in Vietnam, not the Vietnam war.

It's the same event. But more correctly it should be referred to as the Second Indochina War if you're including Laos.
