In Thailand I suggest to choose Bus more than Trains system

Last time when in Vientiane, I was scammed by a tuktuk rider. For a 4km distance, he said "fifteen thousand KIP". When we arrived at the destination, he said "fifty thousand KIP". Just because of "teen" and "ty". Then on the next ride with the other tuktuk, I just use a calculator app and type in e.g. 20,000 KIP to get a confirmation from the rider before proceeding. Also better to record the communication (vlog) as proof. This was in 2017 when 50,000 KIP is equal to USD5.10. Not all tuktuk riders are bad in Laos. Only a few. And this also happens in other countries too. I might return back to Laos in the future.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!! Yes it's always good to have a calculator handy before you agree, we do this before journeys but just like you, there can be scams! We were scammed in Cambodia actually with their currency, which will be explained in an upcoming vlog soon! I hope it helps others not experience the same thing we did! Unfortunately there are lots of scams and sadly we do become victims of at least one at one point :( thank you for this comment, it may help others! :)

The train to Thailand is called Thanaleng station is not the LCR station you went the first place. It is like paddington and Easton, st pancras etc. However there is no train connection between the two

​@lifeoflydia1 the train from Vientiane only runs to Nong Khai two times with no public transportation from city centre so that people only use for joy ride. In Thailand train is not preferred option for intercity travel unlike in laos

So we stayed for 45 days, but it's limited to 30 days now, for British nationals. Where are you from? 🙂

@@ulku1807 If you are from Turkey, it is the same as British nationals, you can arrive and stay for 30 days without a visa! How long are you planning to stay? 🙂
