LAPD & LASD Search for Armed Carjacking Suspects in West Hollywood

Four suspects attempted to carjack a vehicle on Rugby Drive and Westbourne Avenue last Tuesday afternoon. The suspects failed at their attempt and fled in another vehicle. Los Angeles Police Department units from the Wilshire Division located that vehicle and ran the vehicle's plate. It returned to a stolen vehicle. LAPD then went into a pursuit that ended on Santa Monica Boulevard and Westmount Drive in West Hollywood. The four suspects bailed from the vehicle and a search for the suspects ensued. Three of the four suspects were found and detained.

LASD has the contract with West Hollywood for policing services. All around West Hollywood is LAPD area. If there is something big happening right on the border that affects both jurisdictions, both LASD and LAPD will be there. This works out because LASD SEB/K-9 and LAPD SWAT/K-9 have training days where they come together and train together. In this case, it was LAPD in pursuit of these suspects, which ended up in a city that LASD contracts out it's services. Both departments would be there working it together.

As of 2020, the LAPD has 20 German Shepards, 2 blood hounds and 16 handlers with 5 sgt handlers. I counted 6 confirmed with 2 unconfirmed K9 units at this single scene. Not sure what the guy did, but damn if he's getting half the dogs on the force he really screwed up

Because not all of them are. A lot are attached to other calls like this one, or are off doing whatever at the precinct. And the ones who ARE patrolling are spread out over a large area, meaning you don't see them that often.
