Three spectacular days in a car, driving across northern Scandinavia - the climax of the three-week northern Norway roadtrip adventure. In this region, known as Lapland, I had to take my rented car from Kirkenes, Norway beside the Russian border, across Finland and Sweden, to Hertz in Narvik, Norway. And I only had about two and a half days. The road trip, through some of Earth's cleanest air (supposedly) and the endless and gorgeous forests of the far north, was the thrill of a lifetime.
Along the way there is the town of Muonio, Finland; stunning resort town of Björkliden, Sweden; misty mountains, sparkling streams, and the epic Torneträsk lake; swimming reindeer in roadside ponds; and enough twists and turns and straightaways in the rugged little backroads to last a hundred road trips.
Join me on the fantastic drive through the wonders of Lapland - the capper to this whole epic road trip.

Amazing to see forests well north of the Arctic Circle. In Eastern Canada, especially along the Atlantic and Labrador Sea coasts, once you're passed 56 Degrees North, comparable to Southern Scotland, you see nothing but Arctic Tundra and barren landscapes. The Labrador Current is a key reason why the Northern Tree Line in Eastern North America reaches that far south as the harsh weather conditions and cold temperatures prevents trees from growing north of 56. Northern Finland and Norway almost reminds me of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula and Labrador's Atlantic and Labrador Sea coasts with barren patches, harsh subarctic environment, and occasional Moose and Caribou (North American term for "reindeer") crossing the streets.

Interesting stuff! I was looking at maps of Canada just yesterday and dreaming of what it would be like to drive around the Atlantic provinces and stuff... 🤔

The poles on the side of the road are maybe not much to look at, but with lots of snow it's great to have them because otherwise you may unintentionally drive off the road.

Good idea - photographically though, I wish they were a little less noticeable

Sweden is a beautiful place!! It's definitely worth it's own road trip!! Spent 2 weeks there visiting a very dear college friend from 20 years ago. Her & her husband allowed my friend & I to use their car while they had work or other things to do & we would go off on day excursions that were just amazing!! Just like you, we only saw 1 stop sign the whole time we were there. It was wither yields or turn around like you said. They also had a little summer house where my friend & I spent a week & took even more all day excursions. It was beautiful out where their summer house was. It was an old house built in the late 1800's that they did a little work on. Just a lot of fun!! I really wanted to take a day & go into Norway but my friend didn't want to.😢🤣 I miss my time there!! Enjoyed the video!! From TX by the way. My good friend is from Georgia. Loved the trips I made there with him to see his family. They lived in Americas, Georgia.😊❤

@@T1DWanderer you really should if you evwe get the chance. You would love it!! Not that I would really want to go there in the winter but that ice hotel that gets built somewhere in Sweden would be a really cool (No pun intended! LOL!) thing to see maybe even stay at but not sure how you could get warm. LOL!😊

It's funny how you think of something watching an upload, and then the guy starts talking about it. Happens quite often too! This time, what I was thinking was what I appreciate most about the north of the Nordics is the vastness of wilderness. It's the best cure for stress there is. You stop for a while and go outside, and there you are, fully content just standing, breathing and being. Mindfullness comes to you with no effort. You turn into a Buddhist monk travelling Lapland, wether it be Finland, Sweden or Norway.

Nice ride across the most rural areas of my home country. You had done your homework well and knew a lot of details. In Finnish writing system eg. short wovels are written with single letter and long wovels with double. That's why there are a lot of double letters in Finnish text. And you never need to guess how to pronounce a word because the writing is almost phonetic and every letter is always pronounced the same way.
@T1DWanderer
@T1DWanderer Жыл бұрын
That's a good point, pronunciation is very straightforward. Grammar, a bit more complicated!

Kind of bold to eat the mackerel in the rental... That stuff sticks if you make a mess :P It's even better on darker bread with some margarine, Mills mayo, salt and pepper... Just saying ;) Noreg is the "Ny-Norsk" version of Norway, since we have two written languages in Norwegian(not counting Sami, even though I should).

Looked like a "Jämthund". Typical for hunting moose. Hard to appreciate the size, but if it was a smaller breed ut was a "gråhund".
