Guessing you've seen the Netflix anime by now. What are your feelings now that you've seen it? They didn't do anything love interest wise, and the girl that was rumored to be a girlfriend seemed to be simply a friend (to Lara/Laura - for now). I felt like there was too much of the guy sidekicks in the show (giving an impression the makers of the anime considered her too weak to handle things without the help of men). It felt like they downplayed her archeology interests (not enough Indiana Jones archeologists in her). The hint at the season 2/ art 2 of her rescuing Sam seemed like they planned to make her more detective (Batman style). Like talked about in this video it seemed like they were far from flattering at times with her drawing - making her not so fit...

She'll defend those she truly cares about to the death, but pull them along without much reciprocity. Just look at Kurtis from the original series. Any love interest - male or female - needs to get AT LEAST that level of runabout or it doesn't work for Lara.

I loved Lara Croft since as long as I can remember. I remember watching my brother who is a lot older than me play the games and I was excited to get to play the games when it came to my own time. I had annoversary edition on Wii and then later got the "Classics HD The Tomb Raider Triology" for PS3. I loved those games. I think you hit the nail on the head, the fact that she was a three dimensional character because she had her good sides and her flaws and that is what made her interesting. I hate Mary Sue characters as they are boring as they lack any depth.
