I loved the woman in her 30 year with her intensity and her vocal performances. I loved the 40 year old with her willingness to discover many different musical styles, always with a fabulous voice. And I love the woman in her 50s who has managed to preserve her voice through hard work, adapting to the evolution of her voice while retaining that little bit of enthusiasm and complicity that makes us melt. I found, in another reaction to this video, a comment from Vinny Lc that explains the meaning of this song and his title, that he found in the documentation of the album Le Secret, which this song concludes. Recently lara had a podcast on her spiritual path and it added a few more explanations to the context of this song. I am combining both sources below to build my summary. A-WA is a notion introduced in the Shintoist religion, in japanese texts called kotodama; kotodama can be translated either as "soul words" or "sacred words". One of her best friend, Issa Padovani, was educated in this religion and created from there a spiritual and personal development path called Onsei-Do (japanese for the Way of Sound) and Lara got trained in this. In both kotodama and onsei-do, "A-WA" is the Light of the Soul used by the Source (U) to create everything. In Onsei-do, "A" is the word-soul that gives the "La" of the atomic symphony creating our universe, the "Big Bang" known to scientists. The echo of this original sound was recorded in 2001, resonating throughout the universe 14 billion years later … "WA" is the resonance in the material of this primordial "A". "A-WA" is the dimension of the Unconditional and Indivisible Love which manifests itself as an individual, in order to taste oneself as a multitude. "A-WA" is the Light of the Source, the Love Song of Life itself, the Inner Force which invites every being to find its true nature, the recall of our Divine nature. Following Onsei-do teaching, Lara learned to love herself better to be able to really love others, reached some serenity and the force to go through most of the challenges she faced ; the fact the sound there is the main energy and creative source obviously resonated a lot with her own life and passion. Now some comments on the recording itself: In the mid of this video, at tea break, Lara discusses with Manu Pitois, her pianist and musical director/producer. She said to him "this is the best album I ever made, thanks so much !". This song composition is from Janey Clewer and they co-wrote the lyrics with Lara. Janey is an accomplished singer-songwriter (as Lara) and she is a friend of Lara since she wrote a (beautiful) song for her called Bambina. They decided to build an entire album together and this gave us this magnificent Le Secret album, 14 songs entirely co-written by both. At the end of the A-WA video here, Lara says to Manu Pitois: "this song is gorgeous, what a brilliant idea from Janey to had this melody re-adapted, pure genius, and your arrangement is a masterpiece"

Thank you so much Eric! ❤ This part "A-WA is a notion introduced in the Shintoist religion..." explains why it felt a bit like a chant at one point. Believe it or not, now it reminds me of Tolkien's Silmarillion and the Music of the Ainur helping in the creation of the world....

I ask Eric for confirmation, I believe that this "mystical" period of Lara, in addition to the friendship with Padovani, also coincides with the reading of Campbell's book "L'Effet Mozart" since Lara was looking for something that could "rebuild" her soul and body after the physical problems of the period and the birth of her daughter. In any case, for me the album Le Secret remains one of the best, probably underrated because Lara introduces new sounds and arrangements as well as the composition of new lyrics with Clewer.

Le Secret is her most underrated album. It was released in 2013, after she travelled to India, it's a magical album with incredible history behind it, its about a human journey, its starts with a heartbeat of a baby and ends with a heartbeat of an old person, the last song it's I am A-Wa (this song you just reacted to), which talks about the essence of the human being in the Universe. The songs are all conected one to another, without pause between them all. ❤❤❤

I love the mature Lara, it seems that time does not pass by her; vulnerable and powerful to time. For me it is clear that a deep introspection towards one's Being, observing along the way the contradictions inherent to human beings. A-WA means yes in Arabic. There is an Israeli group of Yemeni origin that has the same name. I don't know what conditional yes you are referring to; it reminds me of Rudyard Kipling's poem You Will Be a Man, My Son, but I have no idea. This is beautiful. Lara also, like Lucy Thomas, has an amazing clarity and pureness in her annunciation, but delivered in song. None of the ‘stretching’ and ‘twisting’ of vowels or mumbling that many singers do, it is genuine music to the ears. I have absolutely no idea what she was saying and just went with what message she seemed to convey through the delivery. I felt that a realisation had been made, maybe a betrayal of some sort. There was anguish, but also a message delivered that they as well as the other person were responsible. I don’t feel that Lara let real power out in this, especially in the second part of the song where emotion had more vigour than earlier. But that that was deliberate, part of the language, the story. It told me that she was still holding it in, still processing the pain of the why’, unpacking all that her life had been and trying to navigate the reframe. Really amazing delivery by Lara, I believed everything she gave. Thanks as always Aleks. 🙏🏻

On the first part of your comment, I fully agree! On the second part though, I somehow felt completely the opposite - like all burden is lifted, especially when she "distances" her voice from the microphone, but it resonates like music of the universe. I find this song unique in her repertoire (that I've heard so far) as it is more open to personal interpretation while others are more storytelling and the story is pretty much clear. All in all, we both LOVED IT! Thank you also for sticking with me and giving this a glance. ❤

@@AleksReacts I found it Interesting we detected almost opposing flavour, so I went back and listened again, and no, I still heard a desolation in there. This is good, it creates discussion and sharing of ideas. I love your phrase ‘music of the universe’!

Beautiful reaction! It is SO nice to see and hear Lara like this I think, totally free of the theatrics (not in a negative way), that I normally associate her with, at least when she's on a stage. I know that THAT is a big reason, except from her incredible voice obviously, why her fans love her so much. But it somehow takes away some of MY immersion, strangely enough.The "theatrics" that I mentioned also lead me to believe that Lara Fabian would have it in her to become an incredible actor as well. I agree with what you said about Barbra Streisand as well, they sometimes sound incredibly alike. At least in some portions and registers. Barbra is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite singers btw. And she is also Celine Dion's biggest idol I think 🙂 Awesome to hear that you know a little French. I do as well. Back in the days my French was almost fluent, but sadly not anymore. Il faut pratiquer tojours 😊 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
@AleksReacts2 ай бұрын
Thank you, as always, dear friend! Lara here was very different from everything I have heard. For once, we slightly disagree. Hope you won't hold that against me.😉 I don't think the theatrics stopped here. It's just that the song was less of a story, more of an introspective contemplation which changed her body language when singing it. In my opinion, her Caruso in a studio would have been the same as on stage. The same goes for Je Suis Malade. I think her movements when singing are not controlled at all, but come from the song itself. In fact, I think she'd either be the best actress (if she fully immersed herself in a role the way she does in a song), or the worst (unable to hide her true feelings). Of course, I could be wrong. Among many others, I grew up on Barbra Streisand. Thank you, dad! Some of her songs I know by heart to this day and surprise myself when they come on the radio and I start singing along after 20 years of not hearing that particular song. Her voice is also magic. Can't say I like Celine Dion. Something in the color of her voice does not appeal to me. She's a very good singer. I can't deny that, just not to my taste. Lara is sometimes reminiscent of Celine (for a few seconds in some songs), but it doesn't bother me as it is only reminiscent of her, does not sound exactly like her (which I would not like). Finally, I used to be fully fluent in French about 25 years ago. Have not used it since, so now it's kind of tragically bad, but one day I'll retire and learn it all over again. If I had all the time in the world I think all I'd do is learn languages - each one has the way the of thinking of an entire people woven into it.

@@AleksReacts Hehe. I'd never hold anything against you come music at least😉 I always appreciate hearing other opinions, as they may even sway my own sometimes. And you KNOW that when an artist has a massive fan base like Lara, and you somehow don't fully get on board, then YOU are the strange one 🤣 That being said though, her absolutely BRILLIANT voice cannot be denied, she is definitely one of the very, very best singers in the world. I WAS a big Celine fan when she broke through, but I don't really know a lot of her catalogue still. Somehow, the big hits she had, was enough to keep my attention. As my taste has "matured" over the years, I can still hear what I liked so much, but I probably wouldn't be as hyped if she came along today. To be very honest with you, Angelina has taken away some of the joy of listening to other artists. That in itself should work as a sign for me to let off a little on that pedal, but I just can't 😂 And I also just can't help myself from comparing other singers to her. Btw, what do you think about the duet with Barbra and Celine called "Tell Him" ? In MY book, that is one of the better duets ever recorded 🙂 As for languages, you and I are on the very same page again. I do speak a lot of languages partially, but only English is fully fluent. Then German and French half fluent or so. I also know the very basics in your native language, as neither the phonetics or the written language are too difficult to grasp for a Norwegian 🙂

🇨🇦 Mine is Automatic too, no winding, no batteries LOL @@AleksReacts But I forgot another Japanese connection, I have a Nephew who lives and works there ! Still, I love the concept of the song ! 🇨🇦

I only have one friend who lived in Japan for 8+ years, but is now in your country, Canada. Strange how many things in common one can find, however small, that connect us. 😊

🇨🇦 @@AleksReacts Want another connection ? I too was in IT, like Eric is ! LOL 🇨🇦

I'm out on that one. I did work with a lot of people in IT, but I was never one of them. I did do product management with an IT team twice. In both cases I was roped into it because I understood the product inside and out. I am proud to say they did not entirely hate me, given that I was the business side. 😉 So, maybe a bit of a connection - not hated by IT. 😂

Merci Olivier! J'apprécie vraiment les performances de Lara. The one you've just suggested is on the list for future reactions and I'm pretty sure I will get to it. I've got 111 suggestions for Lara so far, but I am going through them one at a time. So far, she has never disappointed me, quite the opposite. She manages to surprise me with a new side of her each time. ❤

As always thank you for your reaction (love the smile she brings to your face when she lets the power in her voice go) I enjoyed your analysis of the lyrics as I was more focused on Lara being Lara in the video, it always reveals so much of her character. The 2010 Mademoiselle Zhivago, 2013 Le Secret and 2019 Papillon are my favorite albums of Lara in her 40's. The Papillon album in my opinion kind of starts a new chapter in her career as @guymarcbravoso1341 alludes to.

Thank you so much once again! You know, this reaction is in a bit of haze for me, I don't even remember that I tried to analyze the lyrics. At some point her voice felt like it was literally coming out of my own body, so weird. It's probably why I loved this song so much, felt like I was inside of the song. Again, a very odd feeling, but felt so good.
