I am so, so glad you watched the ending, bc it truly demonstrates how far within herself Lara had to retreat into, in order to put forth the emotions this song requires - she's not even present at first, as the applause crescendos. She has to work her way back into the moment and, even then, the emotions linger... I love what you said about narcissists and empaths. So true. I was in an extremely toxic, on-and-off, six year relationship with a man who was terminally ill w/ brain cancer. I can't even put into words what that dynamic was like. Everything he said, everything he did was supposed to be forgivable bc he was dying. And I let it happen until it shattered me- I couldn't bear it anymore. But then came the guilt: How can I walk away from someone I love who is dying?! ... And then he died. I tried every substance I could get my hands on to block the pain. Every time I crashed, it got worse... This song means so much to me bc it helped me realize that I, too, was sick - and that my illness could easily be just as fatal if I did not stop self-destructing. "This love is killing me" - oh, my God. 💔 It's still a struggle, every day. I've stopped destroying myself, but rebuilding myself? Honestly, I don't know how... I can't even believe I'm posting this, I don't talk about this - but that's probably why I'm stuck. Anyway... Thank you for inspiring me to share this.

Best comment in a while. I’m telling you, it is that kind of love that tries its best to kill us. Aye, but what didn’t kill us, only made us as strong as humanly possible! We are very lucky to have escaped that. Even if it means someone had to pass away. Us darn empath’s never want them to hurt! We never want to leave on our own, and when we do, it had to get to the point of life or death! I can’t even tell you what I went through for months. Every milestone I would hit, BOOM! Someone would start some shit. Every time I went to stream, someone would start some drama. Every damn chance I took to love myself, someone shot down my looks! It was almost like my success drove that certain someone crazy! If I had anything good happen for me whatsoever, someone always got butthurt. They’d never admit it tho. Those types of people will say they want what’s best for you, but their ACTIONS prove otherwise! That’s when you figure them out for who they really are….A covert narcissist. What’s so crazy about NPD, they can be MANY different kinds of narcissist! It’s so sad bc they cannot change who they are! They don’t believe anything you say, even if you look dead in their eyes and say “you hurt me so much when you did…..” they just gaslight you. I often wonder if I should do an audio book about my survival with a narcissist. But I wouldn’t want his head to get any bigger than it already is! He’s a talentless creep, but he thinks he’s this famous rockstar 😆 And I can honestly say this today…in my mind, he IS DEAD too. Tbch, I’m really glad you escaped too. We don’t deserve that whatsoever. 💕 love yourself more and more each day!!! ❤️ JJ P.S. whomever gave you the courage to write this, must’ve gave me some too 😉

Start living day by day. Seek others who understand you. Go day by day. You'll start liking life again if you go slow. It starts by going out the door. Seeking people you feel safe with. Walking in nature. But do not look at the mountain ahead but take one step at the time and you'll find you can feel again and live again. It takes one brick at the time to build a house, concentrate on the brick not the house. Love and empathy from the Netherlands Heather.

@@JustJenRx There is a bigger lesson there Jen... don't "overlove" somebody... loving somebody means you trust him/her and that he/she cares for you but up to a certain standard... people that "cling onto" another person in an unhealthy way are just as problematic as narcicists... they just hurt themselves instead of other people... every person deserves our love as long as he/she is worthy of it... the moment he or she is no longer worthy (cheating, psychological abuse or whatever else you wanna put there) you just turn your back and just admit to yourself "I have better things to do with my life"... sorry but I never believed and I will never believe that there is any single person that is irreplaceable... BULLSHIT... every one of us is replaceable... there is no perfect human being... what people hope to find is a person that is good enough to make them happy enough to enjoy their lives... but thinking that "this one person is the only one most perfect for me" is unhealthy in itself... 8 billion people on the planet and there's only one that has the qualities you seek? Come on... That said, I haven't been married, the people I love the most in my life are my friends and family and that is because they've all been judged and they've proven time and time again their worth... I do not accept any kind of abuse or any kind of immoral behavior... my time and my life is too precious for me to be wasting it trying to shove morality into immoral people's minds and hearts, which is damn near impossible anyway... I think the biggest lesson for most people should be to learn to LOVE THEMSELVES... being without a partner isn't scary... being without friends and family and being TRULY ALONE, that's scary... it's terrifying... 99% of those people who think that without "that one person" they are alone are bullshitting themselves cause 99% of them have people that really care about them in their lives but just refuse to acknowledge it cause they're obsessed with an imaginary perfection that has been formed in their mind... Have a lovely day, keep your beautiful sentimentality and don't depend on others to "make you happy"... just BE HAPPY!!!

Hi Heather, It is a very good thing that you posted this. Rebuilding yourself will go with sharing what you went through with others and expressing your emotions to free yourself from them. You've lived a very painfull and destructive experience, but you are still here, strongly alive. The fact that you were able to write these few words show that you are already starting to rebuilt yourself even if you don't realize it yet. Have faith in yourself, you are stronger than you think 👍 You can't change the past, having regrets or remorses won't help. But today, you are free to choose what you make out of this past : a burden that keeps you out of the best this word has to offer, or a new faith in yourself, your strenght, and your capacity to keep going. Be proud that you survived, and use this experience to rebuild a new you, more aware of the kind of people you want to be surrounded by, and able to use all this past to help others, just by sharing your experience (you will see that when you confide in others, others confide in you and it helps them in return). Don't let go. In France, we have a proveb that says "After the storm comes nice weather", and trust me, it is true 😃

I"m french and I want to add some details. The original song was performed by a french singer named Serge Lama and the music was composed by a woman Alice dona in 1973. So it"s a wonderfull and astonishing cover made by Lara who's belgium/canadian. This version is a masterpiece which makes me cry every time I listen to it. I love you Lara !!!!

As said , in another comment, the song was written and sung by a french singer called Serge Lama in the seventies, the music was composed by Alice Dona , another french singer and composer. Serge had hard love time , and he wrote these lirycs in few hours. The song was , also sang, by Dalida, but Lara's performance gave , to this song , an emotional dimension that no one could reach. Your reaction, is one of the best reaction I saw on this song.Probably because , it looks you experienced what Lara is singing about 👍👍👍👍👍

Lara (not Laura) is a special breed among (french) singers, along Aznavour : she makes you believe - and feel - as if she had truly experienced personally what she sings about. Don't think that that is the case. As we say in French, she is a real 'interprète' (performer), not only a singer... Naturally, she has changed much in every way since this was recorded. By the way, most people don't know that, for this 'live' show, she had to sing most songs TWICE ! That was a feast in itself. ---- Now, a little more than 20 years later, Lara is at another place emotionally, sentimentally and, definitely, artistically. I now often disagree (...), vocally speaking... but, still, I keep coming back to her. No one is more Authentic. ---- You might enjoy "Je t'aime", here in 2018, in Montreal. A totally different twist, and it works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaHNZ52cicqLkMk

Lara Fabian is a fantastic artist! Leaves the right message of each song in your mouth. But the stories she sings aren't about her life, they're just songs. As a lyrical singer, her interpretation carries the opera in her posture of delivery, on stage. Lara sings in more than 5 languages, and hypnotizes us in all of them.

Lara feels this song because of the struggles in her own life. Another very emotional song is Je t'aime. If you listen to that song have some Kleenex as that one is very powerful. I really would love to see Dimash and Lara do a couple of duets in my lifetime. There is a live performance of this in France from 2003 where she does an a cappella at the end without the mike and the piano player just walks off it is truly amazing. Then the end is well just mind blowing.

Oh, Jen -- I don't know what was more draining -- watching your reaction or watching Miss Fabian! I first saw Miss Fabian when I lived in Belgium in the 1990s. I don't think there is a female singer who can swing for the emotional fences better than she. This performance in particular highlights her extraordinary interpretive skill. There is simply nothing like it in the "catalog." The subtitles do a very good job with some tricky French phrases but a few get missed in virtually every subtitled version. For example, when at about 9:10 in your reaction, she says, Pourtant je crois que j'avais du talent Avant ta peau "I believe I had talent" is a good rendering for the first half but the second half is usually translated as "Before your skin," which doesn't mean much of anything either in French or English. Even if you tie them together as “I thought I had talent before your skin,” you’re still in the weeds. “Avant” means “before” in this phrase, in the sense of time. “Peau” is the word for “skin” in English, but in this locution, it can be understood as representing the person who is being addressed. It’s a little bit like the words of the old song, “I’ve got you under my skin” where skin is not simply a physical thing but also an emotional place where someone can burrow in and be one with you. There is a permanency implied, an attachment, something deep that can’t be removed. In short, “I thought I had talent -- before you showed up.” Or, even “After you showed up, the talent I thought I had disappeared and now looks as though it never even existed.” She is a dead bird who poured her blood into her lover’s body, now deprived of any sense of self; her words and her songs have been stripped away. The relationship she had became so consuming (and toxic, in today’s terms) that she could no longer sing or form words into songs. Again, she is like a dead bird while her lover sleeps. No songs, drained of all that gave meaning to her life - she has poured it into him and when he sleeps she has no existence, no life. He has turned her into a shell of a person who only comes to life when he is awake. Even then, he uses and abuses her in the relationship and her existence means nothing unless it reflects him. (BTW, the word malade does get pronounced as mah-lah-duh in the song but that emphasis on the last bit takes place only in songs and poetry. If she were saying it to you in regular speech, she would not put any punch on a third syllable. You’d hear only “mah-lahd.”)

I can relate to this performance (i’m french so it helps to get the lyrics) AND to your comments so much! I was with a covert narcissist for iver two years, very emotionally abusive, and it robbed me of myself. The craziness those people make you feel is beyond words, you truly cannot explain it and get understood by people who have not lived it. Those relationships do not make sense, they traumatise you within so deeply, and you feel guilty because you don’t even understand why you stay. If you’ve lived something like this I GET IT and I GET WHAT YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH. I have done a video about it in case you’re interested but you probably don’t need to be explained the situation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIrVimarmL6VZ7s Thanks for sharing some of your story. Feeling heard and seen by people who have gone through the same thing is so important and healing. Thank you 🙏

I am sick" is a very intimate song since it tells a true story… When Serge Lama writes it, he is madly in love with a woman who is already married - he himself is linked to someone… This clandestine relationship is really going last two years with this woman who is called Michèle and who will be his wife until her death last year... What is interesting in "I am sick" - we will hear it - is the tone that the character takes to say how much he is angry with this woman who abandons him... But - if we listen carefully - the vehement tone , the anger that Serge Lama expresses - this anger is not only addressed to his mistress, but also to his mother… With whom - obviously - he has an account to settle… It's in the chorus: "I'm sick. Like when my mother went out at night and left me alone with my despair." This abandonment of the mother is also specified when he says "I am like an orphan"… Passing through his mistress, he reproaches his mother for what she has done to another man… By reproaching his mistress for putting him down , he takes up the defense of another man - and this man is his father… When we inquire, we learn that Serge Lama's father was an artist - an operetta singer - that his career did not have. not taken off … We discover that his mother pushed him to give up the life of an artist and take a job to support his family. And it is through his son that the father says to his castrating wife - singer father: “However, I - I had talent. You deprived me of all my songs. You deprived me of all my words.

I love your reaction on Lara Fabian, I feel your pain and emotions and your love for the music and her interpretation and skills to bring the song... She is Belgian(-Sicilian) origin, so you should please react to Jacques Brel, another Belgian with" Ne me quitte pas". The lyrics are incredible, his singer-songwriting style is unique... He has so many other beautiful songs ; les vieux amants, Marieke,... Thanks for your reactions!

The kind of guy you were talking about at the beginning of the song is called a "pervers narcsissique" (narcissistic perverse) in French. They are most of the time very outgoing, even exquisite in presence of other people, but they are monsters behind closed doors and they play with their companion just like a cat plays with a mouse before killing and devouring it. They also not consider their companion like a human anymore : "it" instead of "he" or"she" (or other denominations, I'm not really up to date on the subject). In this situation there's only one way out : leave, even if it's difficult and harmful, it will never be as harmful as what he can do to you. Don't be sad about experiencing Lara's pain, that's empathy, and if anything, it proves that you take care of people. You're not worthless but resilient, it also hurts before healing, relapses are possible and it's not shameful to look for help. People also care for you, but don't trust the "over-caring" ones. Take care of you too. Edit : it looks like we totally agree on this subject. Great.

I could see the pain you felt while you watched and listened ,,,,, Lara Fabian has the unique ability to bring an audience along with her into the emotions the composer intended. For me anyway, she is absolutely one of the great artists of all time - she paints a picture with her artistry that involves each who hear into whatever performance she gives. Thank you Jen (if I may be so bold to call you by name) - you seem to be doing well now ( quite funny alot of the4 time ) vut just know that many of us will be there if ever again you get down. All the best and more.

Hello Jen ! I am a very big fan of Lara Fabian and this song was originaly sung by Serge Lama who is a male french singer. Writen in the 70s by Alice Dona and Serge Lama The song was first performed by Lama with no success, Dalida recorded the song the same year receiving widespread success. The song was covered, among others, by Lara Fabian (in 1994), Thierry Amiel (in 2003), Demis Roussos, and the South Korean vocal quartet Forestella. Thought you would like to have a bit of history about the song.

Beautiful reaction Jen, it was amazing to see how you were pulled into the song emotionally already during the first few words and tones. As for the lyrics I have read that it is about a secret love while both involved are married to other persons and they struggle with the circumstances of not being able to meet whenever they want. Hence the "you come and nobody knows when, you leave and nobody knows where you go" and the comparison with a station platform. They love each other but still seem unable to end their previous relationships. The pain and hurt that comes with it is extremely beautifully conveyed here by Lara. Well she is a master of doing this. At this point I always love to suggest a song where she also conveys strong feelings but in a totally different way and where I can see some similarities to Floor: It's "Requiem pour un fou" by Johnny Hallyday and Lara Fabian live at the Stade de France. I have the feeling you will love it!

Thanks for your excellent reaction and words of understanding. This performance blew me away when I first saw it. The emotions are about as raw as you can get without falling into despair. Lara vocally walks a line between strong feelings and just breaking down and loosing it, showing great range in both her voice and emotions. She can also sing about much happier times. Describing a much happier moment, she uses her voice to audibly show how it must feel to fly in "You're Not From Here" (English) at kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKebiXmOgL2Fgqs

I listen to this song quite everyday, even if it's a cover from Serge Lama... Her interpretation is perfect, we can all feel what she feels... To me, I'm sick because of my ex husband who is a narssicic pervers, and makes me sick all the time... He stole my daughters, from me, their mother, it's very very hard, always telling me I'm nothing, I can't be loved, I should be dead... So, in this case, I would change some lyrics because I don't miss him, I hate him... But the feeling is the same... I'm sick... Please, be careful from toxic people, take care of you.... This interpretation is so beautiful and real, thank you for your reaction, you cry because nobody can not be touched, I cry because I didn't make the right choice... Yes, I'm sick...

Good evening, Your reaction is very moving 🙏 I don't know if you've already been told in a comment, Lara Fabian covered this song by Serge Lama, a French singer and lyricist. He wrote this song in relation to his wife who left for long periods of time to work as a "G.O" nice organizer at the Mediterranean club. She stayed for long weeks and he could no longer bear her absence and that she was far from him, he suffered that his wife was not near him, his love was so great for her. Lara covered this song beautifully for her friend Serge Lama. Cordially Geoffrey

This song was composed by a man. The original singer was the man who composed it. The pain, the deep in the lirycs, music and emotion coming from the compositor's experience when she abandoned him. Lara did an amazing performance. Voice and story telling in a supreme level. Singer and actress at the same time. Perfect.
