Spectacular performance and a terrific and emotional reaction. You are not alone in the way you were moved watching this. Many, including myself, had emotional reactions hearing this for the first time. Lara is indeed a rare gem and this is one of, if not the best of, her performances. If you really want to see how adored she is by her fans you should react to "Je t'aime" kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4CWk2CDrt6HkMk . This version cuts off a few seconds earlier than other versions but this one has the most accurate subtitles which is very important for this experience. Another one you would like is "Adagio". kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHK6gqt_ppJsY7M This is the official video of the song which is much better than any live version I have heard.

Bonjour,it is the personal story of the writer of this song, Serge Lama, left by the woman of his life whom he would have liked to marry. He was devastated...But a few years later their paths crossed again and they ended up getting married and having children. his wife died in 2016 and he hasn't sang much since. He loves what Lara did with this song.

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3m2qp5qiKynq7s is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella. Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaqsfZeIdrSGbpo

More information on Lara Fabian: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best. There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence: • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for 200+ songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer. • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens. A quick background on her and her career: She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both italian and french as native languages. She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She had been living for years in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship. She just moved back to Italy a few months ago (temporarily?). She became very famous in Quebec and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music). In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary, packed with masterpieces (covered by many great vocalists later on). But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan. She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance. She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then. Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban (they are friends and he told she is a role model for him), Linda Eder, … With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there. Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her. She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep. He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara. Out of my mind I can list: ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer), ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer), ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version) ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know") She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love". And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva). Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida. Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara. Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it. Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration: ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio), ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime), ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie), ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow), ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace), ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow), ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow), ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow), ○ Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Adagio), ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime), ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade), ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow), ○ Gigi de Lana (Broken Vow) ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Adagio, Broken Vow), ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know), ○ Il Divo (Adagio) ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you), ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow) ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso), ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie), ○ Amir (Je t’aime), ○ Vitas (Adagio), ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio), ○ Jeck (Je T’Aime), ○ Evgenia Fanfara (Adagio), ○ Anna Eriksson (Je suis malade), ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade), ○ Soprano Turetsky band (Adagio) ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio), ○ Harrison Craig (Broken Vow), ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow), ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you) ○ Sevara Nazarkhan (Je t’aime) ○ .... NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version. Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature. In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular. On April, May, June 2023 she had again some wonderful concerts in Tbilissi, Georgia, then in Ouzbekhistan, Kazakhstan, Romania. She is about to release a new album and kick off another tour that will visit eastern europe in april 2024 (Czech Republic, Moldavia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkiye), then several locations in Canada in june 2024 and, after some rest and a few TV Shows, France sometime in 2025. Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

Thanks for your heartfelt reaction! It's impossible for anyone who is sensitive and empathic to not be moved to tears by this performance. The song was written and composed by Alice Dona and Serge Lama back in 1973, but it was Lara's version of the song - and this performance in particular - which has since become the epic standard-bearer of this classic. It's like "All Along the Watchtower", which was originally written by Bob Dylan, but later made famous by Jimmie Hendrix' cover. When Dylan first heard Hendrix' version, he said that the song was no longer his, but rather now "belonged" to Hendrix. Lara Fabian is one of the truly exceptional female vocalists of the past half-century. I hope you will consider reacting to more of her vast discography!

You see her go completely insane over the loss or heartbreak by the end of the song. Welcome to the world of one of the most incredible singers. She is in my top two live singers in their heyday in terms of telling the story and power in her quietness and loudness. Her and Whitney. Stay in this concert (From Lara with Love) and watch her singing Adagio, Broken Vow, You Are Not from Here, and Caruso. You will be blown away. She was in her heyday then, still singing now BTW, but in this concert, there was something other worldly going on (for me at least)

As you watch you at the start you can see she's literally being transported into the song & is living every word she sings.... Then at the end when the audience is cheering you actually see her re-enter her body & come back slightly shocked realizing oh right I'm not alone here then the moment in the song where the lyrics speak of her pouring her blood into her lover & she symbolically slits her own throat with her thumb..so powerful... thank you for discovering sharing & enjoying this .. I would also suggest her version of the song Caruso to react to

Wonderful, heartfelt reaction video of Lara...I probably have watched at least 100 + times and have it on my daily playlist....the whole concert of that series. I look forward to you getting to see more of her performances. Lara is truly amazing. The hardest part of watching is to remember to breath, which i'm not good at. She can take you on a journey and in my opinion she's the most incredible artist I've ever seen. I have not had such emotion from a performer as I do with Lara...the tears just won"t hold.....Look forward to your next reaction....you've got an excellent list ahead of you. Thanks so much for your lovely comment. It’s so hard to put into words what I experienced when I saw her expression there at the end. That look in her face. It was undeniable that she was feeling that, relating to that song and those lyrics, and I felt my heart just break in that moment. Truly powerful, what an incredible talent and skill to have. I can’t wait for more. Thanks again, Len. From Brisbane, Australia.

You're welcome Alison and I completely agree with you. She really dives deep into emotion and expressions when singing and it's so clear to see how she can relay the story and feel those true emotions....like the end of Je suis Malade, she was still in the song emotionally and took a few minutes to gather herself....that is a TRUE artist. Believe it or not, this is a cover. But Lara always made covers hers and she litterally lives live the story she is telling. Lara has also written her own gems, covered by the greatests, in french but also in english, italian or spanish. Do you remember Broken Vow performed by Craig Harrison on The Voice Australia? This is hers! Also Dimash covered several songs (she even wrote one for him). He is her absolute fan. Cakra Khan, Gabriel Henrique, Diana Ankudinova, Morissette Amon, Katrina Velarde, Floor Jansen, Forestella, Polina Gagarina, … but also Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Dame Shirley Bassey, Linda Eder, … they all made covers of Lara’s songs. I will post separately comments with her background story and a recommended playlist.

Hi from Aussie girl! You made me happy, Alison, with this reaction. Lara is incredible. I follow her for many years. Next suggestions are Adagio, Caruso..and many, many more. She and Diana Ankudinova performed a song “Tomorrow Is A Lie”( written for Lara by Igor Krutoy, who also worked a lot with Dimash), it’s interesting to listen to both versions. She’s Dimash’s idol from his childhood, and he once sang with Lara “Ti amo cosi”.

Igor composed the music but Lara wrote the lyrics of Tomorrow is a Lie. They co-created many masterpieces together, he said from her in 2022: “Lara is both the best singer and best songwriter i have ever collaborated with”. They both created Your Love for Dimash for instance.

Thank you very much for your reaction to this performance. I still don't believe that the American music lobby did not value this talent in '99. I live in Turkey, I am a Turk. I was 10 years old when Lara's English album was released. I used to listen to the song "I Will Love Again" on pop channels and knew it by heart. How could people be so bad and ruin someone's career? I'm 36 years old now and I'm still angry about what happened then. Lara Fabian is now 53 years old, but she still carries the same shine in both her heart and voice. We want to see more Lara videos on your channel..

Lara is an almost unknown artist in USA untill today. Her albums were "not available" in the United States and "princess" Celine Dion knows exactly why. Because her husband who was in charge of Sony Music decided to protect Celine's career by destroying Lara's career in Un.States. Of course Celine sould have been aware of this crime if not she had asked for it. And never apologised for that injustice and humiliation of Lara who came close to suicide because of this and other personal problems. Fortunately her fans saved her with their incredible love on 2001 concert in Paris ("je t'aime" etc)

A very dangerous enemy who came to the Un.States without money, had to beg the music Companies to help her start a career and she also had to spend nights sleeping in a car. A real Cinderella. I also said MAYBE C.Dion asked her husband to do what he did. I expressed myself carefully because I was NOT in Cel.Dion's mind. FYI: She’s absolutely beautiful at 53 - LARA (not Laura) Fabian (Fabyanne) with links: Lara Fabian is a Canadian (Québécoise) of Belgian birth and Italian/Franco/Flemish cultural heritage. Lara studied piano, composition, and voice at a Brussels Conservatory for a decade. Lara is a full lyric soprano with a vocal range that spans four octaves (A5, B4, BB4, C3, C5, C#5, D5, E5, EB5, F5, F#5, G5) in live performances. She is multilingual; she speaks Italian, French, Spanish, and English and has sung in 12. Lara, who describes herself as a songwriter/singer, creates a high emotional connection with the listener. She has a discography of over 400 songs, has sold over 30 million records, and plays at sold-out venues worldwide. She lives with her husband and daughter in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I’m a ‘fan’ because of her high level ‘EQ’ (emotional intelligence) expressed in the text of her songs.
