Ciao, hai indovinato subito.....la performance era molto intima LARA stata veramente rivolgendosi a suo padre presente tra il pubblico insieme alla madre e a loro insaputa ha preparato in gran segreto questo pezzo per loro. Ciao e tanti saluti.

Yes, another Lara reaction ❤, wonderful. Not a genre I listen much too, it is a bit too theatrical for me normally, but I still loved this. It hit me in the feels, and I sensed it did for you, too. I also had the best dad I could ever wish for. Your thoughtful reactions always amazes me. Lara sings like an angel, as always.

Let me give you the context of this performance. This is a cover of her idol Barbra Streisand. Medley means this is a combination, here a combination of 2 songs : Papa Can You Hear Me and Piece of Sky. Yentl is the name of the 1983 musical movie starring Barbra that included these 2 songs. Yentl is a masterpiece, a musical drama movie that is one of the most personal project from Barbra Streisand. The story is based on a short story “Yentl the Yeshisha book” from Isaac Bashevis Singer and Barbra stars in this movie as a jewish girl who is secretly studying Talmud by her father (normally reserved to men) and after his death disguise herself in a man to attend rabbinical studies. And there falls in love with a male schoolmate. The first song is performed in the movie after her father death, when she decides to impersonate a boy and attend the rabbinical school. The second song ends the movie: she is on the boat aiming to America and Ellis Island, she has left Poland and is ready for a brand new start in a new world. The 1983 movie was critically and publicly acclaimed and won several oscars including the music and soundtrack. It also won several golden globe awards including best director for Barbra. The 2 songs here were composed by french legend Michel Legrand. It was his 3rd oscar for movie music as he had already won 2 for The Thomas Crown Affair ("The Windmills of Your Mind") and The Summer of ‘42. Lara is an absolute fan of Barbra and this cover is both a tribute to her and her father. She committed herself to cover these 2 songs on stage at least once, when she attended the movie release in theaters at 14yo. These are 2 very difficult songs and it’s quite rare to find singers able to perform these live and chained (was Lara the only one doing it with that level of vocal, stamina and acting skills?). I call this perf “Lara in broadway mode”. Barbra said to Lara: "I don’t say this very often but you are very good". And later Barbra covered Lara’s masterpiece Broken Vow in some of her own concerts. The parents of Lara were attending this concert, as they were celebrating their wedding’s 30th anniversary, and Lara often focuses on her dad during this perf. She dedicated them later in the concert another cover she made: I will always love you.

Aha, there you are Eric! ❤ I hope you listened to the whole thing, as your name is mentioned a couple of times for a reason. I went back to the email you sent me months ago and found the information you shared with me back then. Thank you for expanding on it here! I'm sure many would like hear more.

Yes Eric is right.. This is Broadway alive.. Voice.. Breath control, perfect pitch, exquisite texture, dynamic, belting, interpretation, stage presence (look how she fills all spaces she got, even running on heels) . Not even the great Barbra Streisand did ever perform both songs live without a pause.. 8 minutes of vocal technique and interpretation .. She is a navigate actress.. A wonderful full package of an artist. I would have loved to see her parents expression that evening , how proud they were of their amazing daughter. ❤

Such a beautiful reaction, Aleks. This is a masterclass by Lara, no doubt. And not only in vocal delivery, as you mention. This kind of music; "Broadway style" is the PERFECT music for her IMO, where she can also let her theatrical skills blossom, without it feeling a bit too much. That has always been the one thing that has prevented me from falling completely for her as an artist. I think it was nice to see how she hit you again. She obviously has that effect on you 🙂 I have seen it before as well. Barbra's performance of this song has always been among my favorites by her, and I think I can hear and feel more than you do perhaps. That being said, I DO see what you mean as well. I kinda believe you when you said that you can talk for hours. But you know what? I really wouldn't mind. I know that I could learn a lot from you that way. Take care, Aleks 🙂 Love from The Sharkster ♥♥♥♥♥

Thank you Aleks for this beautiful reaction. This time you had a hard time hiding your emotions even if you managed to contain the excess of feeling by dissecting Lara's performance. Thanks again!

🇨🇦 I'm not crying, you are ! 🤣 This is one of those that I would never dare to compare the two artists ! I have seen this a few times now, enjoyed it everytime, and you are correct to see the 'emotional' differences in this version ! As followers though, we get one added advantage to this reaction, and that is seeing the pure joy on your face, watching this ! Don't be making us wait so long next time ! 😜 🇨🇦

Well, I'm not. 😋 I dared compare them as the approach was different. Not sure if I would feel so comfortable if Barbra's performance was conceptually the same. Not to worry, Christmas is coming soon, so some of Lara's songs appropriate for the time of year will come up. Any you'd suggest?

Aleks thank you, I've been waiting for you to do this one and your reaction and opinion never disappoints specially when it comes to Lara. I'll leave all the others to comment on this vocal masterpiece but I will tell you, if there is one thing Lara has always had, is absolute confidence in is her voice. From the first time I watched this video years ago, I thought at 10:58 on your video as she says "Watch me" the look on her face is one of complete confidence and determination as she so beautifully belts out "Now"!🤩😍❤ Sort of like the star baseball player pointing to the part of the stadium it will go before he hits it out of the park. Like you there are certain performers that makes us beam with pride as we watch them and Lara is one of them!

Lara is very close to her family, as far as I know her father financed her first album and when his daughter decided to try the singing adventure towards Canada he gave her his life savings. Evidently they believed in her choices and the results proved them right (we have a problem, your daughter is a singer 🤣).

Dear Aleks, have I ever mentioned to you how much I appreciate that you post your videos during my lunch break? If not, I’m thanking you now from the bottom of my heart for it. 🤎 And when it happens to be a Lara’s video, it’s nothing short than a blessing. 🙌🏻 Anyway… First, I’m gonna pretend that I haven’t noticed those watering eyes of yours for your own sake… 😉 I’m so happy that you finally reacted to Lara’s Yentl. This one blows me away every single time I watch it. And I’m just going to say that Broadway’s loss that they have never had Lara there. She’s in such a trance during this whole performance… like she’s really possessed or something… 🤯 And is it just me, or that circling movement she does with her finger at the beginning to be the most adorable thing ever? Like she’s literally a “maestro” conducting her own phenomenal instrument, her voice. It was certainly a very special performance for Lara… As you mentioned her father was there and he was the one who first helped her in her career, taking her to gigs and all, which totes fits the storyline there.

Dear Raquel, the lunch break thing is accidental. KZbin simply shows me when most subscribers are around to see the video. 😉 If you haven't had the time to hear the whole thing, please make sure you hear the final thoughts - I simply had to mention both you and Eric as without you guys I don't think the reaction would happen just the way it did.

And now I hope you don’t get mad at me, Aleks… 🫣 but I’m gonna leave a second comment here, as I think I’ve never suggested these four French classics performed by Lara to you. Shame on me, bc they’re all so very beautiful and, although I’d really like you to add them to your spreadsheet, I know it is already too full… So, I’m really not expecting you to do it, but… hey, you can always go just watch them privately eventually. Besides, I’m sharing the list not only with you, since my main goal is to always promote my beloved Lara and her talent, and these are sort of hidden gems that I’ve never seen anyone reacting to, so I guess some people here, who are only now discovering her, would possibly want to check them out: - Le Blues du Businessman (Gosh… Lara in a suit is something else… She looks, and sounds, so effortlessly glorious here) kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGPdiqaDeNFqrJIsi=hbSpABI8kMw_vIWw - Le Hymme à L’amour (Gorgeous version) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqKplaZ7mdygg68si=Yu_bI8lKZJWdiz8y - Gottingen (Love it!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJaXlHWJmcaCeposi=coup7IHYTG-Oswqe - Quand on n’a que L’amour (Acoustic and so delicate) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIiamqipeceMoLssi=NlxNQtX-KMPcy3xD
