Lara and Ganguly were two of the most exquisite timers of the cricket ball, yet they were so different. At 1:25 , Ganguly was in position to play that shot before even the ball was released, and it seemed like he had all the time bring his bat down. Whereas, at 11:18 , Lara looked like he was running out of time even though he was on his backfoot. His bat came down as he was getting in position, almost in the air it seemed. Lara batting style was so unconventional that it is amazing he didn't edge every time he threw his bat at the ball. His batting was a prime example of what we call "Method to the Madness".

That's a very astute observation. Might be because Ganguly didn't move his feet much often. Just played the ball with his hands. So his feet were always in the shot making position whereas with Lara it was such an exaggerated movement with his feet that it almost felt like he was running out of time. But he had such a rapid bat speed that it compensated for being late on ball, if one may call it that. I have always felt that Lara's bat came down whirring like the rotor of a helicopter.

Thank you very much for uploading this, this match is still fresh in my memory although it took place 15 years ago. I remember almost everything related to this match, key highlight of this match and the match decider too: The two greatest spin bowlers of India Mr. Anil Kumble & Mr. Harbhajan Singh getting 6 of the International XI team's batsmen out and making this match one-sided in the favour of MCC. The spin duo from India once again proved that whenever they perform collectively, they can outperform anyone, no matter whosoever is in front of them just as they both did for India for around 7-8 years from 2001-2008 until Mr. Kumble retired in 2008. RESPECT TO THE GREATEST SPIN DUO OF INDIA!!!!
