I'm sharing a health update as so many of you have been asking me what's going on with my IBS, SIBO test, CT-Scan, possible endometriosis and the diagnoses I have had so far!!
As you can see, I'm still so bloated and uncomfortable, which is really bringing me down, so I wanted to share it with you for anyone else suffering with stomach issues, bloating, IBS or anything similar as I know it helps to get other people's advice from the comments.
I really thought by now we would have found the cause but sadly I'm still going through it, which is frustrating, but we will keep on with the investigations :)
Thanks for all your support, I'm so grateful to you!

Also if you can eat soya, buy some organic tofu and you can make tofu scramble instead of eggs. Crumbled tofu, a little tumeric to colour it yellow, salt and pepper, you can mix in mushrooms or spinach etc.

I have just come across you on youtube and this is the only video I've watched so far. I wanted to tell you that I'm sat here crying, I *think* happy tears ... just so nice to see I'm not the only one struggling. I can't get any professional to take me and my symptoms seriously because I am morbidly obese. They blame my weight for everything .. no joke! I have IBS mixed .. I can go 10 times a day and be passing bright yellow acidic liquid but then I can also go 10 days with nothing and be having to rely on laxatives. So far they've run some bloods and all that is fine, done 2 different stool samples and my calprotectin levels are raised and just keep going higher. I have become so isolated from friends, family, any life outside of these 4 walls basically. I am miserable and see no light at the end of the tunnel. I wish you didn't suffer, that I didn't suffer .. but its just so god to know I'm not as alone as I sometimes feel! Hugs xx

One of the things I found (listening to my body) after doing plant based diet... I was eating a lot of things like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, garlic, onion etc All of these are thiol foods. They are all linked to mercury issues. Headaches and lethargy after eating cruciferous veggies, eggs, coffee, peanuts (legumes).eggs are usually an indication of a chelating issue. Your body does not naturally chelate metals. You may want to look into that. changing my diet by removing all those items, adding in lots of meat, other veggies like green beans, cucumbers, mushrooms, and good healthy fats like avocodos, uncured bacon, ghee etc...made a drastic change to my health. My kinesiologist was an amazing HELP...You can have a heavy metal test done too by sending in a clipping of your hair to be tested. Hope you get some answers soon. I had all of the tests you mentioned done as well to no avail. I gave up on conventional medicine and turned to holistic and have so much the better for it :-) Look into colonics and have a good cleanse done. Also start taking digestive enzymes to help with digestion and elimination. HCL helps too

I was tested for endometriosis a number of times and kept coming back negative but because I kept pushing they done a laparoscopy and they discovered not only that I had endometriosis but the surgeon said the scarring was one of the worst he's seen in a long time! Keep pushing your doctors because at the end of the day they are only human and without surgery many people go undiagnosed 😔

I have so many symptoms the same as you, been on a similar journey to you. Unfortunately it’s been 20 years without a diagnosis as it started when I was a teenager, they have just said IBS. I’ve just had an endoscopy, and some small things have been discovered but waiting to see the consultant again. Just wanted to say I completely emphasise with you, and what you said about no proper help when you have IBS and how debilitating it is. I’ve also bought some clothes that cover over my tummy 😆 Thank you for your updates as it helps me feel not alone in my symptoms. Also I agree with others, I really can’t eat oats either. Sending love 💕

Aww fellow IBS -C sufferer here! I was diagnosed with it a few years back now and at the time the lovely gastroenterologigist told me it was "just IBS" 🙄 I've been a vegetarian for just over 3 years now and I have noticed its gotten worse since strangely, I've cut out certain foods and also milk, and take regular IBS meds everyday (have been on them for quite a few years now) but it is debilitating and does get you down when your constantly bloated and feeling rubbish. Hope you get some answers soon. Good luck x

i would look at every packet/ingredients for all products. gluten is in cornflakes. it is in most things - you need to check packets really. Its annoying but most cereals are fortified with cereals which includes gluten. Aldi have a very good list of all of their products which ARE gluten free! they use a lot of maize starch instead of flour as a thickener which means you can eat a lot of their products. So I mainly shop there and then top up with gluten free bread and wraps to give me other breakfast options. Yoghurt and fruit got boring really quick for me, but adding in gluten free bread gives me a good range of options!! Just check everything - you are better of excluding gluten completely for at least 6 months before trying to reintroduce things again. but you do need to cut it properly for your stomach to heal. Hope this all makes sense. I have been on a similar health journey. Need to find some other snack options as i am craving lots of sweet things x

I tell you what, when I get really stressed/anxious/worried it triggers my IBS. I find when I start to bloat I do stretches and yoga poses for ‘moving things along’ and I find it really helps. It can be painful and uncomfortable but in a good way. Kind of like when you stretch a sore muscle after a workout.

My daughter has been diagnosed as a Coeliac this year and has to also avoid oats for a year as apparently it's not possible to test for an oat allergy on it's own until you are free from gluten. Be careful with other cereals such as corn flakes etc as they contain barley malt in them so you will probably be best eating the free from stuff. Hope its sorted soon there is nothing worse than being in pain and not being able to rectify it xx

HI Lara ask your gastro for a colonic transit study. it will help rule out ibs but a lot of doctors have never heard of it so you need to ask for it, no one even suggested it to me until I booked with a private gastro. I had 2 different types done and it ruled out lots of things and resulted in me finally getting a diagnosis after 3 years. On another note you really can't rule out Endo without exploratory surgery. they are 99% sure I have it but thats not what's causing my other health issues which makes me too high risk for surgery but they can't diagnosis me without it just like they can't say you don't have it without surgery but obviously you know your other more personal symptoms that could indicate it or not xxx

Not sure how a Gynaecologist can test you for endometriosis and rule it out when you've never had a laparoscopy. The only way to diagnose endo is with a laparoscopy. Endometriosis has varying symptoms and at different degrees. Some women don't even know they have it as their contraception manages the symptoms, others are in agonising pain with it every month. I wouldn't rule it out x

Thanks for the video! :) I hope you don't mind me sharing, I understand I may not know the full picture and just a thought, from my own experience. I wonder if you've considered psychological factors which may be impacting on your physical pains? Its not a quick fix i'm afraid but the brain is incredible at protecting itself from stress and anxiety. IBS related symptoms (and migraines, tiredness, dizziness and other physical issues) are often strongly associated with psychological difficulties such as stress and anxiety, even if you are not consciously aware you feel stressed/anxious. Panic attacks don't always come in the form of fast breathing, increased heart rate etc. You can get CBT therapy on NHS which can help with identifying patterns. Unfortunately food intolerance testing is not actually accurate and not based on scientific research therefore not recommenced by the NHS. I wonder if perhaps you may feel very stressed with all the food restrictions and constant testing, alongside stress of house buying etc, which could be making your symptoms worse. R.Lambert has very good podcasts on nutrition etc called 'Food for thought' if this helps.

It’s all so frustrating and the bloating belly makes things difficult because it’s hard enough finding what food to eat without then finding something to wear because you have a bloating belly. I’ve taken to having apple cider vinegar and I’m just about to go onto an anti inflammatory diet. I got the beginners book from Amazon. Thankfully the meal plans look edible 😂 Hopefully you will find something that works soon. Good to have a place to share and talk about these things. Xx

Hi Lara been watching for a while. My mum is a coeliac but she also has a condition/intolerance (do not know what it’s called) but where seeds gather in pockets in her intestines which is very uncomfortable causes lots of pain. So she avoids strawberries, cuts seeds out of tomatoes and doesn’t eat seeded gluten free bread or anything. I don’t know if that is the case for you but might be worth looking into. Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Lara, sorry to hear you are still poorly with your stomach. What brand of Oat/coconut milk do you use? I have been drinking Oatly oat milk for years after I realised I had a cows milk intolerance. I once tried Alpro as it was cheaper and Oatly was hard to get for a while. I started having bad stomach cramps and bloating. I couldn’t understand what the difference was until I realised Alpro actually contains gum. It’s the same with gluten free bread etc they use gums as gluten substitutes and they have a much worst affect on me than gluten. Xanthan and other gums are in so many things. Honestly, you should try to eliminate gums (Xanthan, gellan, guar, gum Arabic, Tara, locust bean, carrageenan and maybe others that I can’t think of!). Loads of cakes and pastries now contain gum (not necessarily gluten free ones) and it’s in pretty much every type of ice cream, as well as dairy free cheeses, yogurts, cream and milk. Oatly semi from the chiller section is the best milk substitute I have found and I never have any stomach issues with it. Obviously, you might still have an intolerance to oats so that might not work for you. Did you consider going back to cows milk if it didn’t cause you any issues before? I really hope you can find the answers you need xx

I had the same issue for years, did all the food intolerance tests etc was told IBS, lazy bowl, resigned myself to live with it. In 2011 I was having an internal human scan and doctor said he could see a large mass, long story short I'd been living with 2 large fibroids for yrs, no doctor had picked up on it, didn't show up on any ultrasounds. He sent me for an MRI which confirmed it, Had them removed in 2017 and my pregnant looking tummy was no more. The guns told me they had attached to my bowel and other organs which made them not work properly. Old get this ruled out. It has nothing to do with food. All the best x

Maybe not helpful... but I have IBS (they didn't label it c/d then, but looking at it, it's IBS-C), they prescribed me peppermint capsules to take 30 mins before I eat to line my stomach and that really helped, and no I'm on top of it a little more I only take them when I start getting pains and in 30 mins it's usually much better. I also bloat like you, not as much as I used to. At the peak, I would wake up flat and a glass of water would bloat me to look 5 months pregnant!! Obviously my triggers aren't anyone else's, but I don't actually know my triggers really. Take away food really gets me. I'm not sure if it's the grease for me. Thought it was bread because I ate takeaway pizza, but if I'm honest it's just as bad if not worse if I have Indian 😑 I hope you find your answers. It's such an awful thing to have!!

I'm a coeliac and I look 6 months pregnant if I eat gluten (however not all gluten for me makes it that bad so if I had a small cake I maybe ok but if I had a battered cod then I'd be huge). I'm not sure yours is the same but you could try gluten free. GF oats are not always great for those who are particularly sensitive. Maybe look at the cereal packets down the free from Aisle and see what's not got yeast in. Also fruit and yoghurt for breakfast (you can get some dairy free options). I'm sorry you are suffering. I was diagnosed by firstly having a blood test to see if I was gluten intolerant and then a full diagnosis was done by the old tube down the throat...good luck and fingers crossed you get a proper answer ❤️❤️

I would temporarily try the "Hay" diet which is a food combination diet that separates proteins from starches and is supposed to improve digestion. With this diet you would have a protein meal such as eggs and chicken with acidic/ neutral vegetables such as tomatoes, lettuce but no starches or you have a starch meal such as potatoes or rice but no protein or acidic food (as far as I remember). I think fruits are supposed to be eaten separately. I like grains such as millet and quinoa but you have to get used to their taste. Also, try avoiding commercial salad dressings, soup bases/marmite and spice mixtures temporarily to see if it makes a difference as they are often high in glutamate.

Ah I really feel for you, I had very bad ibs about 15 years ago. Strangely strong smells like perfume would set it off and I had to go scent free. The two things that really helped my bloating was to drink cooled boiled water (never cold from the cap). Also if I was having an attack id only eat rice and corn on the cob for a few days and drink lots of water. I ended up on medication for about 9 months and it cleared up. Im only being troubled with it again now, im 41 pre menapausal signs. Ive been told ibs can flair up again in this period. Its so hard to stay positive when your exhausted with a condition but try and relax and enjoy other things

Hi, what is with all these new cases of gastro disorders. So strange. When I saw your video I thought oh not her aswell 😫 So since the beginning of May, I've been dealing with silent reflux/globus hystericus around my neck. Never heard of it before never had it before. I turned 44 in May, birthday was on the 5th had my vaccine on the 6th and haven't been well since! Cant sleep. Can't drink wine, can't drink coffee, most things I eat just take ages to get down. Lost so much weight and not even in a way that makes me feel great. Never been so frustrated and fed up in my whole life so I can fully sympathise with your situation. What do we do? Is there any way of recovery. Is there any life after all this...?? x

Sorry that your health hassles have continued. I’ve also been on the long journey of seeking diagnosis for debilitating medical issues. You have probably already had these simple tests done, but sometimes these sort of simple tests don’t get focused on by medical professionals: A complete blood study... testing all vitamin levels, thyroid, all inflammation markers (such as c-reactive protein) etc. A full blood test to test hormone levels. This is great if you are not using any contraceptive pills etc, as you can get a clear picture of where you are at, hormone wise. Often an imbalance of hormones can cause large issues in the body, especially if you are at an age where the start of perimenopause could be happening.

AW lara I am in the same boat as you! I also started suffering with a bloated stomach about the same time as you and its grown and grown. Now I look about 6 months pregnant! I haven't had any doctors check ups yet (its so hard to get appointments with my surgery but I am seeing them next week. Someone else mentioned endmetriosis to me also. I've also thought it could be hormone related or lack of a certain vitamin like B12. Have you had that checked?

I’m just going to put this out there but keep in mind I have not experienced this personally but I once watched a video on a couple that were vegan for years and they started having skin, bloating and all kinds of health issues because they weren’t getting animal protein so they added in fish 2 times a week and they felt so much better and their health issues started going away. May be something to ask your doctor about? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you tried the whole 30 program?its not a diet but a great way of eliminating lots of food groups to reintroduce them so you can identify what is making your body react like this. There are lost of books about it and science, the founder is Melissa hartwig. I suggest it as it’s helped me understand my ibs tremendously. A great breakfast option from that would be bake some 1/4 inch sweet potato slices, quacamole, whole30 bacon (get naked bacon rashers, not the vegan kind) and poached eggs - tastes amazing 😀

For years I avoided bread thinking I may be gluten intolerant, but gluten free bread had the same effects on me as normal bread 🤔. I had trouble with so many things but unsure why and like you, got to a point where I didn't know what to eat. I am also a vegetarian and found a lot of vegetarian stuff caused me problems too. I have recently pinpointed soya as my worst trigger and it's used in so many things 😔. Since I've been avoiding things that contain soya in any shape or form, I have been much better. I still have issues, but they are much less now.

I was the same and realised it’s actually the gums they use as gluten substitutes that have the very worst affect on me. Xanthan gum is in so many things. I was going to suggest to Lara that it’s perhaps the gum in her oat/coconut milk that is causing her issues. Oatly is the only brand that I have found that doesn’t cause me any issues. I can’t have cows milk, so had to find an alternative.

@@LaraJoannaJarvis yes i highly recommend this too! You have bloods done at the doctors (you need fasting bloods, normal blood count doesn't check for it!)this can check your inflammation markers then also a stool sample is needed; calprotein is a test done through a stool sample and is a measurement that tells you if there is inflammation in your bowel which can be for ibd(ibd is an umbrella term used for chrons or ulcerative colitis) if you need anymore information or have any questions please message me in IG: weightlossandfreefrom

@@LaraJoannaJarvis Inflammatory bowel disease, which is Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis. You can get constipation with Crohns disease. A calprotectin test will measure the inflammation levels in the bowel. A colonoscopy will detect ulcers. They will take biopsies to check for inflammation. I'm surprised the gastro didn't even check for it. It's worth pestering them to rule it out because it needs treatment if that is the cause. Best cover all of your bases.

I really recommend diving into the curable app - when it comes to chronic symptoms with no obvious diagnosable cause, the mind body connection is more powerful and responsible for issues than we realise. I also really recommend the podcast "tell me about your pain" with Prof Alan Gordon. Its fascinating and a great tool in your tool box towards better health.

@@LaraJoannaJarvis yes there’s another app called something like Nerva ibs?? I think it’s along similar lines but I don’t know much about it specifically. Curable is great though. They also have a podcast called like mind like body which is good. It’s also helpful to note that in the mind/body neuroscience world the term “pain” is often interchangeable/a catch all term for pain AND chronic conditions such as ibs. I really hope you find it all helpful. My sister suffers with ibs and is in the middle of a really prolonged flare up brought on by work stress. Hope you can find your way to better health soon Lara x

Forgot to say also it can be helpful to do a time line of pain or flare ups of other conditions and note what situations were going on in your life/family/work/globally etc at the same time - often a pattern can evolve which can nod towards the effects of stress and anxiety on the body. I’ve found that very helpful personally. Sometimes we don’t realise how much we are dealing with! X

Beyond thrush- my mum had similar issues and was so unwell and it turned out it was that so now she can’t eat anything sugar related as that increases yeast growth and she also sticks to gluten free- took six months whilst it went out of her system but she’s must better now- she had input from a herbalist who helped her manage some of the systems xx
