I am not a developer or an expert in the web community. I am just an old guy who wanted my website to be better than Wordpress could provide. I found Laravel 6 years ago, learnt it, built with it and have a website that is quite frankly ridiculous in terms of functionality and speed. Taylor and Jeffrey made that happen for me. The best framework as a framework where static methods are everywhere? These two things cannot go together
@gtdmg4892 жыл бұрын
@@devnullex May I ask why?
@MalteNielson2 жыл бұрын
@@gtdmg489 Leaving a reply to know the answer for this as well.
@gtdmg4892 жыл бұрын
@@MalteNielson I did some digging. The only conclusion I get was that static methods are hard to test because the result is hard to predict and goes against OOP practices. I'm no expert on this, but I would say it is justifiable because PHP is capable of building an instance of a class by using magic methods and static factories. Laravel is built with this in mind. A lot of the methods are actually build to support static methods and leverages the feature of what PHP has already. This allows for classes to be instantiated without the need of calling new class here and there while allowing to chain methods easily from other methods. This is why Laravel has the best Query Builder I've ever seen on any frameworks. Because it's much simpler. People called it developer-friendly because of Laravel's great extensive documentation, highly expressive syntaxes. Which allows any beginners can start coding on Laravel without knowing any practices of OOP in the first place.

I started using Laravel in 2017. I had no idea what language I was going to write my new project in, so I did the same thing I did in 1998 when I chose Java over C++, a deep search of current languages and opinion. That took me to PHP, and from there, Laravel. My first commercial app was out before the end of the year, and I've been messing around with Laravel ever since, including rewriting that first app from scratch with Laravel 8, and then upgrading it to Laravel 9 in 2022. Every day I love it more. Thanks for this origin story. It's amazing how few people it takes to build an empire.

Thanks to Laravel, PHP is one of the serious programming languages - again. Keep up the good work.
@azolee2 жыл бұрын
@Nikola B. A lots of programming languages are available at the moment, but since Laravel is present, it is possible to maintain - even corporate level - complex projects in PHP much easier than before... and this, combined with the PHP's easy learning curve.
@azolee2 жыл бұрын
@Nikola B. sorry, it is a missundestooding here. I didnt meant this way. There was only one thing that was in my mind: since Laravel is present, even more developers use PHP again to create corporate level software. Since JS became a backend stack as well, and since Go is here as well, we see even Java loosing space. But not PHP - despite the fact that a lots of developers - usually from other stacks - says that PHP is dying. But, since such a great framework like Laravel (and Symfony) is present, PHP is a serious web development language to consider even for big corporate projects as well. So, I did not want to take any credit from the PHP core developers. They did a very good job with the language. I really like the direction they are heading to.
@azolee2 жыл бұрын
@Nikola B. you should learn Laravel. It will make much easyer to maintain your code/project, and also a lots of PHP Developers enjoy working with Laravel, wich will ease the recruting process. as well.
@azolee2 жыл бұрын
@Nikola B. I have used Laravel in a lots of different - heavily loaded corporate projects, and indeed - when it is misused, Eloquent can produce issues. But if you use it properly, a lots of good things are handled in a very elegant, robust and dinamic way and thus, it can ease the development process as well.
@Xewl2 жыл бұрын
@Nikola B. That's of course the case with any ORM, but the work that's been put into Eloquent to make it work in multiple cases, the extendibility/expandability is definitely there. Somewhere, someone has hit your use case and shared their knowledge, and if not.. it's not that big of a jump to make your use case work the way you want. There's tons of resources available to do just that. Outside of the ORM, there's a whole load of stuff and valuable resources, even stuff that's not fully documented yet (though, the documentation that exists is *chefs kiss*), but is already in use, maintained by third parties or open source so you can either join their cause or make a fork of your own. Even when you have to look for your problem, put "laravel" in the query, and pretty sure you'll be on your way.
