Great video! Do you have any update videos on this forest?
@mikbonsai4 ай бұрын
My apologies for the late reply, I was off KZbin for nearly six years, I was ill and aroung the same time my son aged 27 passed away. About a month ago I returned to my channel and have started making bonsai videos again. Thank you for watching my videos in my absence. I would be delighted to hear from you if you are still watching KZbin videos. I still have this forest, but lost one of the trees and will do an update on it bit later on as there is a lot to catchup with my trees and the videos. Also be interesting to hear from you if you have any bonsai trees.

Great video. A trunk chop is the hardest thing for beginners to commit to. You did great showing how and why to chop. Thanks
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feed back. I have done trunk chops before but on inexpensive trees, that is the place to start and even there it should only be done if the tree it getting too tall and starting to get out of scale. This is the first big one I have done and as you saw I was very cautious and did it bit by bit. Thanks for your support bother.

Hello Vaman, Yes I must admit the pruning was very harsh, as I have had practice and experience, I still don't like doing too much work at once. This trio group is responding very well and has good vigorous growth. I hope to do a quick one minute update in a few weeks time. Best wishes IK

Oh my, your poor dad-- I did get a good giggle from that after thought at his expense....I suppose it was just meant to be!🎨🐝🎨🎨. The effort into these three trees I think is well with it, give them a repot, a summer to recover and they will be beautiful before the winter sets in. Great job ... C U on the repot!

Hey Jeannie, Its the way I tell em. Glad you had a giggle. All three trees are doing well and I hope to do a short up date soon. I am looking for a round pot and as soon as I have found a suitable pot the trio will be repoted and with a video to follow. Thank you for your support and CU next time.

Such a fun video to watch! How old are these trees?
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, I have had this group of three for about four years. I acquired them from a chap who had a these in his collection for over 40 years. On retirement he sold his collection to move from a large house and garden into a flat.My guess is that these are about 70 to 80 years old. All his trees had been neglected, not pruned and not repotted. Since doing the work, the trees are responding extremely well to the pruning with loads of new growth and few new back buds. Hope to do a quick update video in the next few weeks. Thanks for your subscription, watching and commenting. Delighted to have you here. IK

I just picked up a Siberian larch nursery stock with a great big trunk. It came in a large pot so the first thing I did is re pot in mid may, reducing the root mass by about 1/3 and branches by about the same. Any advice on how much pruning I can get away with before I drastically reduce it's chance of survival?
@mikbonsai3 жыл бұрын
I trust you did not bare root the tree in May and root pruned it ending up with a decent root ball. Repotting ought to be done in Spring as that is the time time when the risk of killing the tree is minimal and the roots do not dry our in spring, unless the weather has already turned to warm. The pruning of the branches should be spread over summer months if it is as drastic as you describe. I trust your tree is doing well. Good luck with it.

Still working to tweak the videos and make them more watchable. This larch group is responding extremely well to the drastic pruning and will do a short one minute update a bit later. Thank you as always for watching and your support. IK

mikbonsai I’ll need to rewatch for the times but it was the cheering from the football, a woman walked off to the side at one point, the part where you had to tell someone you were filming and your pesky neighbour part, nothing was bad and I’m easily amused :P

These are very old trees and I acquired them from an old collector who was downsizing his home and garden. He had them for 40 years, when he purchased them they were already old. My guess is that they are 60 to 70 year old, possibly more. Thanks for watching and commenting, Please do consider subscribing if you haven't and also do share my videos, it helps and is much appreciated. Hope to see more of your comments. Best wishes Iqbal

Hello Anita, Thank you for watching, as always look forward to your comments on new videos. Glad you like this one too. A word of cautionTake it easy with the chopping, Study the tree and look from all sides and only chop if necessary. Trunk chops are done for a number of reasons. (1) To improve a taper in the tree, (2) As in this instance the trees were getting too tall as was the case with these trees. Repotting for this tree will done as soon as I source a suitable pot. My own Hindi video, hmmm....well will try and one in the coming weeks. With warm regards IK x

mikbonsai Thankyou Iqbal for valuable advice.Yes my trees are getting taller.but my biggest problem is that my three baniyan trees have no lower branches...Though old enough to be good bonsai they refuse to take shape as I want them to.And the only reason can be same..Not pruned n cut in initial stages.I let them grow but they are not looking good. I'll take care of suggestions you have given. I think I must wait for rains to begin. Hai naa? Luv
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
I don't have any experience with Banyan trees, I do believe they back bud. The best time would be when the growing season starts. When you do the chop make it at 45 degree angle to the trunk, after you have chosen the front and the cut should slope down wards at the back. The cut will then be hidden from view and after the new branches appear, train one as the new apex. Good luck and best wishes x

How to make a top in a bonsai tree,,
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
I have noted your suggestion as a topic for my videos. If you watch the video again you will see that the horizontal branches were wired up and repositioned vertically and they will be developed to from the new apex/crown or the top. I will be videoing the development of the crown of these three trees and will release the video in stages to show the progress and this idea is straight from your suggestion. Thank you and cheers mate.

Hi Edmund,Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate it very much. I am looking for a suitable pot, a round one if I can find one as I too am concerned about the weakest tree. Since doing the work all three trees are responding well and I will be doing a short update shortly with a repotting video to follow as soon as I have found a suitable pot for the trio. Thanks for the pruning tip. I have had loads of lessons when I started and still have the odd one I find interesting. In my lessons I was also taught to prune in Spring and then summer prune. The teachers have their own preferences. However, I don't prune in winter due to the risk of die back. I lose a few trees every winter, Please consider subscribing if you have not yet done so. I so look forward to more of your visits, comments and feed back. Cheers bud. IK
