Why was it not uniform? At 6:08 you can see how the near side isn't spaced quite the same. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but i don't immediately understand. Also, at 1:40 there are some metal rods being hammered in that don't appear to be bolts or anything - are those just secured via friction? Amazing work - i love your videos.

@YouJamie803 жыл бұрын
It is a vehicle carport. Another vendor is installing the roof. He thinks it will be a polycarbonate product. Rain an snow runoff will be coveted in the center V location. This is the entry area for a wood research center, so the architect & client wanted to have a showplace piece to highlight that wood can be a finished product as well as structural. Mission accomplished. This info was gleaned from the replies to other comments. Project location is in Croatia I believe. Preparation of the beams is covered in the other video labeled ‘Production beams’.

Looks great. Two questions: 1. Why is there an extra support on the end nearest the building? 2. Why is the cross bracing only on the first and last section?
@lignumchannel3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :)First two opposing spaces are for people with disabilities so they are bigger and separated. Metal structures have cross braces usually placed in the middle sections so the structure can freely expand and contract as the temperature changes. Cross braces are usually placed in the last sections on wooden structures because wood has almost no temperature dilatation. When calculating stresses on the structure, you get how many cross braces should be installed to keep the structure from warping, In this case two sections were enough.

@@lignumchannel I do like it. Over the last decade or so I've been fascinated by the glulam process. Its mechanical/structural properties seem to lend it to these artistic forms.
