In this video I fix the sliding bore in a almost 24" diameter variable speed pulley. Because this is the first real job since getting the big Series 90 Monarch installed it is a little cutting action heavy so for those that enjoy watching the chips be made enjoy!! For those that don't fast forward. :-) I had some trouble in the beginning but I go thru getting it sorted and in the end the job turned out great. Thanks for watching! Tell your friends and family to come check it out too. :-)

It's been many a year since I was loafing around the millwrights shop at DuPont but I understand now a lot better what I was watching then. This is what a Big Rig is for and it sounds like a twister whistle winding up! If I was there I'd take Baily off and get him right calm and give him a good ear scratching and tell him what a good old boy he is. I can do that! Might not run a lathe but I can make a pup happy. Thanks, Pal!

Getting replacement pulleys has been tough. I found Speed Selector who makes variable speed pulleys that replace the Reeves, Hi-Lo, TB Woods and Lovejoy pulleys that went out of business or got bought. Most of the pulleys are in stock or Speed Selector will custom make if needed. They have an actual engineering department who were very helpful.

Nice clean job. I really enjoy the sound of that big lathe when you engage the rotation. Its like something you would hear on a large prop airplane. I would imagine you will move your other lathe into the barn soon so you don't have to go back and forth on a job like this. Thanks for the video

This makes a nice big and stable platform, Baily is back full time supervising... 😎👍 One method I use when a press fit needs to be installed, is to get the inner part in the freezer for a while, then the insert is way easier to slip in, in your case the tail stock could probably slip it in straight with enough force, got to work fast, though...

I sort of helped a factory guy rebuild the gut-works of a cone crusher. He had a bronze bushing close to 3 feet tall to put in. He was trying to get the other guys to do it and they were scared to death. I knew the nitrogen bottle was sitting there and just grinned with him. He cooled it down and there it went. No problem. Can't remember whether he cooled the bushing or where it went but it did what it was supposed to do.

That pulley slides over a keyed hub, on the side you couldn't see there are 6 drive pins that engage the other half of the pulley and then the drive hub. This side has to be able to move in and out on the shaft to adjust so it doesn't really spin on the bushing I fixed it really just slides.
